It's a beautiful teasmade! I've never seen one like it either, it must be a pretty early model - it's nothing like the blocky beige Kenwood's and Swan's of the 70's and 80's. I honestly don't know how I'd get up without my old Swan! It's at least 40 years old and still works perfectly 😀

What you call a tie pin is really called a tie bar. A tie pin had a sharpened metal piece that poked through the tie and had a metal clasp that clipped on the underside of the tie. A tie bar clipped onto both parts of the tie and the shirt. Good fun remembering but I missed that pocket record player. We only had gramophones, record player consoles. Thank you.

Along with the Tie bar vs the tie pin issue I'm not sure about the Conker thing. We had clackers in the US in the 1970s that were two acrylic balls on the end of a string that were clacked together. The picture of the Conker honestly looked like a horse chestnut (AKA: Buckeye) on a string.

I remember the Conkers, but we called them Clackers. I had a 10-speed bike that had a front headlight and a rear red light on the back for safety when riding when it was between dusk and dawn that was connected to a dynamo, and a flip type lever to it tilted to the tire when you wanted to use the lights and away when not in use.

I still have tie bars, but don’t use ‘em. Would have been helpful to get a peek exposing the clasp. I had a dynamo on my 3-speed. But we called them generators. The top spun against the wheel and generated electricity for the headlight. During high school summers, we used the individual NCR price stamps and the Garvy (sp?) to apply prices on the canned goods in the grocery store. And, I used both the old NCR and Sweeda cash registers to key-in each individual price, plus press the black bar for grocery, the green for veggies/fruits and the red for meats, poultry and fish, and the X key for taxable items at the check-out counter. Calling out the price on each item as the customer watched intently. I also called it a tea server (no maid was involved😁).

First, my kitty, Levi, says hi to his twin on Princess Lupi's comment. I really enjoy these pieces of the past. I was only stumped a couple of times, so my memory is still intact. Funny how barbaric some things seem now. I recall trying to shave my legs with Daddy's "safety" razor...I'm almost sixty- five years old and I still have that scar on my right shin. Safety my foot! A machete would've been safer! Oh, that was a tie bar, not a tie pin. Bars pinned the tie to the shirt with a clasp. A pin stuck through the tie and the shirt and fastened with a button-like tension cap inside the shirt. Most men preferred a bar because it didn't make holes in their ties!

22 of 25. I did not get tea's maid and did not recognize the dynamo. Pet rocks were not sold with googly eyes, though many people added them. The razor is more properly called a 'safety razor' to differentiate it from the 'straight razor'. You could still cut yourself with a safety razor, but you could no longer slit your own throat with a slip of the wrist. The dot matrix printer was unfair, as you do not show the print head. All printers of a certain age used that style of printer paper, whether they were dot matrix, daisy wheel, or chained printers. Chained printers had the characters on a chain that ran in front of a set of hammers, one for each column of type. When the correct character on the chain passed in front of the hammer for a column, the hammer struck. Knowledge of character order on the chain and the speed of the chain could be abused to have large numbers of the hammers to strike at once. With the feet waxed like cross country skis, chained printers could be moved, and even steered, by repeatedly having many of the hammers strike at once.

The words "Yellow Pages" remind me of a horrific day in 1971. In 1971 there was a formula 2 race at Thruxton circuit over the bank holiday weekend, with many of the top formula 1 drivers of the day, e,g, Graham Hill, Ronnie Peterson, Francois Cevert and Niki Lauda driving the cars. The meeting was sponsored by Yellow Pages and the loudspeakers blared out the Yellow Pages advert sung to the tune of Yellow River virtually non-stop from about 8am. It drove everyone ompletely mad and somebody got some wire cutters and "switched the adverts off😁". I've never met anyone who was there that day but I think they're all in a clinic somehere....

Safety Razors are brilliant and I still use one occasionally as they cut longer beard hair better than a modern razor with multiple blades as the blades get clogged. All the best.

Time clocks are called Bundy clocks in Australia. I don't have a clue if they are called the same elsewhere. They are still in use in some businesses.

On the abacus one, it says "What are *these* called".... it should say "What is *this* called". An abacus is the "machine", not the beads.

@@MrMousley You're probably right, though it could even be the original 'Teesmade' which slightly predates the 'Teasmade'. The patent office wouldn't issue "Teesmade" a license as it wasn't built on the River Tees.

People still use fountain pens, tie clips, and metal razors. I have used a cash register like that. I suppose it would be hard today as many people cannot count change. I have a newer version of a paper cutter that I use. No one uses safety pins anymore? I do. I also still have a set of Jarts and they are still fun!

They sure do. The quiz was about things that were popular in the past that you don't see so often now, not things that don't exist now. I'm sure lots of people, like me, still have many of these things. However, show this video to most people under 30 and they'll be stumped many of them.
