one of our racers added lead shot to the front of his lunchbox. Made it handle way better, but not really in the spirit of our racing. The ways that people found performance increases is really imaginative :)
I wish there were more races like that near me. I've seen videos of races in Japan where they even race the m chassis with the vw bus body, looks like lots of fun. These clubs take it too serious, every class shouldnt require a $1500 car to be competitive. Always been a big fan of Tamiya and would love to see more cheap stock classes near me that run them.
I wish we had lunchbox races where I live, it would be hilarious. I was so scared you were gonna race the old M.beetle, that one has survived this far, let it rest :D
Oil filled shocks make the world of difference, I’ve got inserts in the back but not the front, I’ve actually never tried inserts in the front 🤔 and the little 3d printed axle stabiliser is an excellent mod too as the little springs either side of the axle don’t last
Personally, I would not change a thing on the Lunchbox. Its mad and quite frankly, horrible driving characteristics is the whole point of the Lunchbox. The fact that it bounces around like a highly caffeinated and over-excited puppy with no sense of balance is what makes it fun. Having said that, I put a torque tuned motor in mine and locked the read differential; only because I do a lot of driving on grass and it kept getting hung up spinning one wheel. I am considering making and installing a larger version of the forward roll wedge that the 1/24 Lunchbox Mini has...just to make it more top-heavy and even more mental.
Fun fact the Blackfoot/Monster Beetle chassis started what is the Stadium truck class today. People started racing Blackfoots and having fun then the aftermarket parts came along to make them more racy, then companies like Losi and AE brought out their race trucks and the Tamiya's got left in the dust. So glad we have vintage events now so people can race these trucks with each other.
Oh I wished I’d kept all my RC cars from back in the day. We had a great store in Croydon called Beatties where I’d spend my Saturdays drooling over all the RC vehicles. I was lucky to of been able to save up and afford some of the legends in my teenage years when I started working across the road in McDonald’s lols. Think my first was the Hornet, then Vanessa’s Lunchbox, and then Monster Beetle. My absolute favourite was the super fast Merc Sauber C9 that I would race at Crystal Palace sports centre on a Sunday afternoon with my Dad. Great times
This might be bending the rules a bit much but something I've been looking at for my Lunchbox is the double wishbone front suspension upgrade from UK Monsters. By all accounts, it dramatically improves the steering of the van. Good luck!
I am looking to upgrade my lunchbox a bit as there are Tamiya 2wd Wheelie races at both Iconic revivals this year on Friday after practice. Won't go too far as would take some of the fun away and also can end up with a lunchbox that costs the same as an Avante 🤣
There is a monster beetle in a shop near me, in mint condition box fresh just like that one from the '80s. How much do you think it's worth and should I buy it?
Started in my local club racing a lunchbox which kicked off the Bug. Still have it in good running order. Esc in it now as 2nd speed plate on the manual one went on fire 🤣 1987 feels like yesterday 😅
Striker 2 front arms are magic for lunch box and pumpkin ditch battery holder move battery in tub brings the arms up use grasshopper tabs to hold transmission lowers the rear
They say the only noticeable upgrades are oil filled shocks, and bearings. Mine has both, and the LRP VSpec 17T brushed motor. It's great, rocketship for a Lunchbox, that doesn't constantly fall over 😅
I'm excited to see the final build! I've been thinking about building my own CW-01 after helping my nephew Midnight Pumkin. I'm sure there are a few CW-01 "GURUS" out here that can share some wisdom.........
I bought a Lunchbox back in the 90s, after many upgrades and the chassis breaking, I bought a metal chasis great upgrade. Fellas you must upgrade the shocks and motor for better performance. Great show fellas, can’t wait for the finish. P. S. I’ve also got a Midnight Pumpkin and I’ve just got the new CW01 Pajero with little tyres, I think I like these kits. 🤓🇦🇺❤️
Yes boys, the lunchbox is a great car to run, ive run mine when my optima mid died. Oil dampers are a great upgrade, it depends what the rules are with mods. Ive got mine allready for a 1 hour enduro race in july at the lakeland classic. Its gonna be a long 1 hour 😁
I remember back in 1987 my Late Father would bring me to a rc racetrack. First time i seen Monster Beetle, i fell in love with it. Nitro was also fun but quite loud.
@@PopalongRC A Pumpkin was my first hobby grade RC, Christmas 1988. Despite years of racing I've never had the oppertunity to race one. I'd love to see a full heat of them!
