RU-vid has announced it's demonetising Russell Brand's video content on its site - in other words, pulling the ads from the content he makes. The BBC and Channel 4 have said they are withdrawing 'some' Russell Brand content.
But in an age where Brand can reach 6.5 million subscribers and sell out Wembley, does any of this stuff really hurt him?
Also today, we hear from the son of Jimmy Lai - the world's richest political prisoner -and British citizen - who has stood up for Democracy against Chinese dictators. Why hasnt the UK government done more to fight for his freedom?

The media is seemingly not equipped to be judge and jury, neither do they claim to be, however there are still serious consequences for the accused prior to criminal proceedings. Why are we not also relentlessly pursuing Boris Johnson and others regarding the terrible consequences of Brexit and other instances of poor governing that may have adversely affected an estimated 30 million UK citizens including children?

I am not a Brand supporter - but guys, this is wrong on so many levels: 1. Ch 4 dispatches should have investigated themselves too. Enabling and celebrating his outrageous behaviour for years - did they not have Safeguarding in place? 2. BBC - taxpayers money - who authorized the taxis? 3. Government letter to Rumble - that's on the next level proving this was never about the alleged anonymous victims - it is about his current influence on the masses - whether you agree with him or not - this move is so Orwellian even his haters can see through this now ~ PS: please don't compare his case Harvey Weinstein or Jimmy Saville - these are at the very end of the spectrum. He is a narcissist but at least you know the devil - he has been transparent about his past addictions. I noticed he jumped on the anti-vax wagon around the time Joe Rogan took the so called vet medicine. I try to listen to all sides. There are people like Dr. Drew and other celebrities who are heavy antivax proponents. I did watch the the entire documentary last night and I still have questions. I don’t believe in lynch mob mentality. I want to believe the women, I am a woman but I have to be convinced and I’m not 100% there yet. I’d like to think we’d all get the benefit of the doubt should we become embroiled in a scandal like this. Russell Brand may be a victim of his own big mouth. I feel for his mother if she’s still around, and his wife and children.

This conversation about who Brand's support base or main audience is, is very interesting and pertinent. The fact that it is difficult to pin down - everything from alt-right to Bernie Sanders - suggests that he is representing a new grouping of people who straddle the predominantly US-based democrat vs. conservative divide, or in other terms, the different camps of the culture wars or defenders of free speech. It's almost like it's an emerging group that doesn't fit the existing dichotomies but also is not yet quite identifiable or named itself. Interesting stuff! (observing from the Global South ...)

I don't think it's really as difficult to pin down his support base as you are suggesting. It's just that his support base changed over time. He used to be on the left, but willing to engage with American culture warriors. After he covered the Canadian truckers he got an explosion of maga views and attention, and then adjusted his content to appeal to them (whilst maintaining the increasingly thin fig leaf of not explicitly endorsing their beliefs). Go to his channel right now and just have a look through the thumbnails. It's all maga bait, anti Biden / Gates / Pelosi / Faucci / Obama. Now find a video where he criticizes Kushner, Gaetz, MTG, Boebert, McConnell or anything to do with j6. It may be possible, but you'll need to go back at least 2 years. His current base absolutely do not straddle the democrat / conservative divide, although that may have been true once.

because he has been demonetised without legal prosecution...that is why they are discussing it.The police are dealing with charges atm so we shall see what legal proceedings there will be..meanwhile they are merely discussing the ins and outs of how you can withdraw moeny,content etc from someone based on allegations which have not yet been substantiated in court

Is it JUST that an accused person cannot profit from early work that has nothing whatsoever to do with a crime they're accused of? Especially whilst others on the same platform profit (e.g. this channel with _this_ monetised video) from content actually based on the accusations? In the interests of justice it may be fair to demonitise content a person posts to defend themselves from said accusations but shouldn't that be applied across the board then to avoid creating a very uneven playing field?

RU-vid make more from ads than anyone. I have been unmonetised from the start and used to be unsullied by ads. Now youtube have unilaterally decided that my videos should contain anything up to four ads per video. RU-vid actively use this to make money as they offer an "ad free" option for a price. I'd quit youtube but my 2600 subscribers would take to the streets 🤣🤣
