Sporcle has a ton of quizzes themed around recognizing famous people, many of whom IO appear to be seeing for the first time. Follow me on my journey to get at least one perfect quiz and maybe even learn something about the world outside of Hollywood while doing it!

@@chasecrocker3956 Some historians think Socrates actually didn't exist, that he was just a character used by Plato to deliberate his points, as Socrates is mentioned by no other historical sources than Plato.

@@GardEngebretsen Plato wasn't the only source, there was also the historian Xenophon. Other contemporaries made mention of him as if he were a real person, so I think there's enough proof to say that he *existed*, but the accuracy to which Plato and others portrayed him is the hardest question.

It's the Gutenberg one that got me. Like you don't even have to know what his name was or what he looked like, all you needed to know that the printing press is 500+ years old to guess which picture is from someone that lived that far back.

Don't get too impressed, he fucked up the pronunciation. He said "AvalokitesRAVA" instead of "AvalokitesVARA". That being said, I definitely couldn't pronounce it better without sounding it out slowly, and I wouldn't be able to actually pronounce it correctly (apparently "AvalokiTAY-shvera") without Googling.

Man, These sets of quizzes in particular really highlight my biases, anything relating to math or science or business made me instantly block out all the women and only focused on the men, while anything relating to art or singing made me do the opposite of that

In a quiz like that it's good though, but you have to take into account the time period. Ask "Would women be allowed to or be able to get famous with this in this time period?", if not then they're probably an actress or singer.

Im a bit shocked you dont know of Ada lovelace- but you shoulda known none of the other remaining images were old enough to be first programmer. I mean you know the first computer like machines like the difference engine and babage's work on the analytical engine were in the victorian era right? All those photos were way too modern.
