In this video we explore whether you can refill a butane cartridge with LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) or Propane, and more importantly why you should not do it.
The charging adapter I used: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_9Jl4Us
Fellow backyard scientists, make sure to get the correct LPG bottle thread connector for your region.
Can anyone comment on what thread type larger butane gas bottles have, or is it POL?
Where can I buy bulk butane in Australia?
Again I don't recommend experimenting with this at all.
Update I was told the propane percentage I buy is closer to 90%, so something to keep in mind for fellow experimenters, Wikipedia and FixTechStuff are not the most reliable sources for information, do your own research and remember safety first.
Update 2 Further testing with the butane torch running non chilled LPG, turning it right up did indeed increase the flame, I am not sure why there is an obvious discrepancy in my video. Further testing at night, the flame was massive, although unstable with wind or other fire starving it of oxygen. Again it was not designed to run on higher pressure LPG.
Update 3 Non chilled cartridges filled to about 200 grams will slowly leak down. A future video might be in order.
