it is so much easier to first let a=root(x) and b=root(y) And the equation become a+b = 10 and ab = 10

why substitute, handle as they are. Remember you have to find sq rt (X & Y); in your case a & b.

Your solution is a bit too complicated. Using Vieta's formulas, sqrt(x) and sqrt(y) can be considered as the roots of equation: a^2 - 10a + 10 = 0. solve for a and square them to get x and y.

Answers not verified. sq rt x= sq rt (40 + sqr 15) & y = 10 - x. And I did not need to go Square of X.
