I had an HMO and went to the next state over for a family funeral. Ihad to go to an emergency room while there. We called our ins co. They said we were covered. The hospital said the work with our ins co. Later after we got home. We were notified that I was not covered. That one cost me $5500. The next year we changed to a PPO so we can travel around the country. As long as the Dr or Hospital is in our network we are covered.
@@BoomerBenefits I went to a lawyer and found out that the state Medicaid and also Medicare and United Ins weren't liable to pay since I was out of my Home area. Even though it was an emergency, they can't be held liable. So the next year I changed to a PPO. that way I can go anywhere in the country.
Good info but the problem is getting the detail about international travel. It's not that easy to find and sometimes vague. I worked in customer experience for years in health insurance and its a challenge. Ugh! I stay out of country alot and although Thailand health care is superb and cheap i may get insurance there anyway 😅
