Really interesting and great tutorial! I have a Theta Z1 that I bought for Matterport tours, but am getting into 3D work and the idea of being able to bracket some raw photos for an HDRI (as opposed to the longer workflow of using my camera all the time) is something I've been curious about. Thanks for the tutorial, this gives me the confidence to get started with it

Thanks so much for testing this. I have been using generic HDRIs for backgrounds in my TV work and wanted to get my film crew to shoot HDRIs with our Insta360 but they weren't keen on shooting multiple exposures.

Interesting! The result you got with the 8bit "HDR" looks quite good, but I wonder how well this technique could work when you're not building the corrective node network based on the "ground truth" 32bit HDR that you have right in front of you. Would be a neat experiment to go in blind and capture the true HDR after the fact to compare. Cool vid Louis, keep em comin'!

Thanks Matt. That's a great idea, I totally should have done that for this video as most of the time I'm not planning on capturing the ground truth along side, so would be good to test how robust it is.

You should check out Jonathan Krons video called "AI powered HDRIs using Phone [with Light Information] | English". The app uses machine learning to make HDR photos from jpgs if you like and it actually works pretty well. Quite difficult to set up but I got it working eventually. Would be interesting to try the 8bit photo you got so you can compare how the "AI" stack up against true 32 bit hdr.

How do you use the camera to match live action footage with cg elements? That sounded very interesting.

Hmm I think that this would only apply for scenes where the lighting is very diffused... If you go out with a perfectly clear sky and a sun your shadows might not be as sharp and dark as they should be

True. Outside HDR environments are tricky with the Theta S, also because it can't capture very bright lights, even with the fastest shutter speed, which results in large areas of the sky clipped to white. I tend to add a supporting sun lamp in those cases for a sharp shadow.
