Can you use maqamat to recite/ listen to the Quran? | Arabic101 

No sound from 6:00 until the maqamaat recitation is complete. Anyone else facing same problem?

So it's all about priority. 1. Recite with right intention. 2. Follow tajwid. 3. Learn to connect with Quranic language to ponder about the messages. 4. Beautifying my own natural tune. Is it correct?

Best wisdom and clarification of whether Maqamat is Sunah or not. Permissible/mustahab or haram. Anything that distract you to ponder the word of Allah is not permissible. Remember Allah ordered us to be silent while we are listening the Quran. Why? To porder over it and deeply to understand it. Jazaakumullaahu khayr brother.

SubhanAllah. I love Sheikh Mishary Rashid’s recitations as his tajweed is phenomenal. But when I was learning Quran on my own, I couldn’t listen to his recitations due to the extreme melody he does. I learned the entire Quran by listening to Sheikh Minshawi as its straight forward and natural. SubhanAllah! This was simply innate! Now that I have a good handle on the Quran, its easier to concentrate on Sheikh Mishary’s recitations & not focus on the melody.

AssalaamuAlykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu Very informative, being a student of Tajweed (Hafs an Aasim), I always wondered why some famous recitations deviate from the rules of tajweed. One thing about this video is that there is no sound from 5:55 - 6:20 and 6:46 - 7:25. May Allaah subhaanahu wa ta'ala accept your efforts and reward you abundantly Aameen ya Rabbul aalameen.

I've noticed a new trend that as more and more Muslims stray away from learning the Quran, they're no longer affected by the Words of Allah but rather by the musical notes of Maqamaat. Moreover, some of the mega church-masajid promote reciters who engage in too much Maqamaat so that it attracts people to fill their coffers. As you so aptly pointed out, some people sometimes express joy when verses of damnation are recited or even sadness when verses of Jannah are recited. It all becomes a discombobulation of the meaning of the Quran with flutes of Shaitan.

What Bid'ah means is doing a thing that doesn't have any basis in Sharee'ah. Maqamat has a basis. If you use it to beautify the recitation of Qur'an then it's totally allowed. Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) encouraged us to recite the Qur'an beautifully. If you can use Maqamat to beautify the recitation of the holy Qur'an without breaking the Tajweed rules and distracting the pondering of the meaning of the Qur'an then it's certainly welcome.

Don't you think that even while learning Tajweed in the early days, we cannot focus on the meaning of the Qur'an while trying to use tajweed correctly? Same goes for Maqamat. With enough practice, the focus shifts away from conscious use of tajweed and maqam, and comes to the meaning of the Qur'an. Allah guide us all.

To try and beautify isn't necessarily beautiful. In fact, we can all appreciate and recognise beauty. And we can all recognise when we fall short. Over time the emphasis of appreciating beauty in sound will enhance the recitation in oneself. It's like archery or boxing. Anyone can try punching. But when you master punching with discipline and technique, you elevate your boxing objectively. Similarly when it comes to recitation. We must rescite with Tajweed and beauty and Meaning. Naturally when beautifying your voice one recognises that beauty needs to be synchronized and balanced.

It is very sensitive topic and many technical thing have to analyse scholars opinion is required because there are various kind of qiraat are recommended by eminent scholars.

this is totally true .. Quran is not poetry and then can t be recitated as a song . the Quran is much much superior than any other text and its style much typic even if it s reveled in clair arabic language

every reciter naturally falls under some maqamat. the word maqamat is used for understanding mostly, It is like the pitch of someone speaking something in low and high. if you can scream high your natural tone of speaking gets altered to a higher pitch, Maqamat is simply just that. The recitation every reciter do eventually due of their difference voice and tone style or pitch they naturally got. So if anyone tries to imitate any other imam or reciter, the tone gets altered. It is so saddening some have various misconception about maqamat and compare it with music. It is due the lack of understanding of how our vocal is made. It is another wonder of Allah and to think how blessed and beautiful we are created. You can't make something beautiful without trying and no matter what you will eventually have to follow some instruction. Our prophet told us to recite beautifully, It's such sadness how the beautification of Maqamat that is natural are misunderstood. May Allah guide those people to some knowledge that turn people to wrong without even knowing.

I have question, many times Imams of ka'ba are seen using such notes? Why ? Even Sheikh Mishary. I know they are not role models but still....

Isn't maqaam is just about pitches? Rhythms are not prescribed by them. Isn't it possible to use certain musical mode while preserving tajweed?

i started to learn maqamat.. my teacher started to teach me compulsorily music classes sa re ga ma pa da nee.. indian musical notes . I left after few days.. told them what was relation to quaran witha all this shit...?? He gave me one-sided theories to authenticate it..

Salam 'aleykoum my brothers and sisters in Allah, I have a question for which I have never been able to find a precise answer unfortunately, I hope that someone can enlighten me: How to set the limits of right recitation for someone who has no knowledge of Tajweed, is there a way to determine it? For example when you type on youtube "Salmân Al-Utaybî - Sourate An-Nur (La Lumière) (01-57)", at 20:56 during his recitation of verses 51-52 (one of the most beautiful recitations that I have ever listened to), can we not say here that he goes beyond the limits of Tajweed and indulges in maqamat, for example when he presses while reciting "idha du3uu" for a long time, or is it one of the Tajweed rules to recite the last part of this specific word in the verse for a longer period like he does ? If there is no specific way for someone who doesn't know Tajweed to figure out if a reciter does it in the right way, then don't you think that learning Tajweed is extremely important in order to learn how to recite properly from a reciter who recites in a proper way ? I ask Allah to put in my path someone who will speak knowledgeably and enlighten me on this subject, because I love his recitation so much that if it is legislated and not affiliated with maqamat I will learn his way of reciting inshâAllah ta3ala. The music in it's own self isn't something man-made.The bad words used in singing is wrong because of the moral reasons not because of the melodies itself.

I was just about to learn this maqam thing to beautify my recitation after watched this video i dont think its necessary anymore. I will just recite it with my natural tone and proper tajweed, jazakallah khairan

Two points to be noted when anyone uses maqamaat: 1) follow the tajweed rules 2) doesn't distract you from pondering over the Quran to the melody of the tune

I strongly agree with the point in this video. 'Trying too hard' reciting in maqamat is simply distracting for listeners. But on a side note, Sheikh Bandar Baleela, one of Imam of the Haramain actually does vary his recitation of Quran during prayer with certain type of maqamat, but in an appropriate manner way, i think. His way of reciting, actually give depth of the ayat, really beautifying it, without distracting listeners from the meaning of what's being recited. This of course, only my opinion. Salam. 😁

the echo in many recitations is very distracting for me. I wonder why there is a need for that kind of effect? the Qur'an suffices for effect!!!

I remember when I was memorizing a juz, my ustadzah was laughing at the way I recited the Quran. She said it was funny, it sounded like a murottal, like Mishary Rashid who recites without a certain melody/maqamat.. Well I never learned maqamat, but I know the meaning of what I recited, so my tune was following the meaning of the ayat, like telling a story...unfortunately she found that funny..

Everybody recites the quraan with maqaamat.if we say it's bidah then we saying the whole Muslim world every reciter is doing bidah and this is obviously nuts. Every imaam from Maka madiena Sudarshan shuraym every reciter out there recites with one of these maqam tunes it's natural. Solong your tajweed is in place while reciting the quraan beautiful there is no problem. If we recite with maqaamat while our tajweed is out then this is not correct. Evens nabe dawood had a beautiful voice as its mentioned in quraan regarding te moutains and birds. And it comes in a authentic hadieth bout gh3 voice of dawood. May ALLAH grant us understanding Tajweed first then beautiful voice
