I have been double cutting my lawn for 8 days in a row. The target is to cut every day for 2 weeks. After that I will see take a day off maybe, lawn loves it so am I ✌️
Oh yesssssss. Gorgeous!!!! For two years , I cut , verticut, overseed, and top dress. Those two lawns are in desperate need of a pop-up sprinkler system .
Unbelievable that you can do this so many times. I also take great comfort that even on your best lawns they're not 100% perfect everywhere - you are human after all ! 😁
I scarified last week. Made one pass one direction, cleaned up, and then second pass diagonal. Similar to your video, lots of dead material/thatch came out even the second time. Then, I was wondering how many times we can continue doing this. Your video hints this can be done really several times. Your videos are very informative and educational, thanks!
Hi Dan, saw your video regarding vrrticutting in summer and the cracking results you get. I have been using my Cobra scarifier at its highest setting and it is doing a great job, its not cutting into the earth, just teasing out a lot of brown grass etc Lawn is still looking good and its being cut at 20mm due to the odd poana seed heads appearing. Really impressed considering the heat and sun
Brilliant to see the results , not sure I could do it in summers like this one you can see the poaching on the turns that inevitably come with regular cutting jobs with no runoff area to turn on .
Daniel do you intend to enter your Lawns into Britains best Lawn again or do you do that every year anyway. I love your content and the way you deliver it.
I made a slight mistake over the weekend as was preparing to go on holiday so plan was to apply slow grow and dans magic (grace, orb it etc.). But decided to apply autumn punch rather than equilibrium. Didn't expect it to be soo hot so i scorched a little bit but managed to rescue it and we've had plenty of rain so all ok now.
I've finally worked out how to do doubles. When I first tried they would look like barcodia, as there would be an odd single in there by mistake. Now I'll have to try barcodia, but I'll probably end up with doubles 😂
Surprised the grass didn’t get overly stressed. Maybe give it a try. Daniel, I’m having a problem with clover. Soil is way too compact so I’m gonna aerate in September via machine but I was wondering what else I can do to get rid of the clover. I’m from Belgium so not much chemicals if any available. Thanks!
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Unfortunately not :( Most anti-clover ‘agents’ are high nitrogen feeds. The soil was indeed poor in nitrogen. I’ve given it plenty of feed. The grass looks amazing. But the clover as well and we don’t want that :D
Picked up a Stirling 43 recently and your videos are incredibly helpful for a novice such as I. I can’t seem to achieve any stripes after 3 cuts so far, using the verticutter cartridge followed by the cylinder at around 20mm. Do you keep the rake on when verticutting? I’m adjusting the height and experimenting with the rake to help lift the couch grasses.
A couple of questions sir! Size of the Stirling and what feed & fert etc should I be buying right now having not fed the turf I laid in June yet - simply cut frequently and watered well.?
Many thanks Dan for another great video. I was about to take the plunge and buy a Verticut Cartridge for my old 17” Balmoral but I’m now wondering whether the new Groomer Cartridge with its extra blades would be the way to go. Any thoughts on the uses/merits of one Vs the other would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Thanks Dan, I think it may be possible to change the Stirling toothed belt pulley on the Groomer Cartridge for the old style white gear but I won't be able to get the depth of cut that is possible with the Stirling. Not sure what to do at the moment other than accept I should save up for a Stirling!! Will give it some more thought, thanks again.
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Thanks a lot! I over seeded but the existing grass could do with thinning out as the cylinder is set to 25mm but the measurement is over 30 due to how dense it is. I'll go over it on the highest setting this weekend.
Hi mate - new lawn owner here. Wondering if you had any advice in dealing with dog wee patches in my garden. Seen a lot of different options on like but wanted to get your advice too
My advice is take the dog out for a walk rather than just opening the back door in a morning and letting it wee on the lawn, if you let your dog pee on ur lawn then you have no interest in having a nice lawn which means I’ve no interest in your lawn either unfortunately.
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert you’re implying I am lazy and don’t take my dog for walks. Im not referring to just letting them piss in the garden instead of taking them out. I am referring to when on a nice day and you are in the garden enjoying a bbq, the dog inevitably will pee on the grass. Not going to have the dog kept inside because she cannot go to the toilet on the grass lol.
@@Binnziboy no for what it is it isnt at all expensive just alot cant afford it, are ferrari’s expensive? No most people cant afford one. Same thing here, for what it gives you its well worth the money, just same as ferarri owners will say. They do a cambridge with verticutting cartridge
Hi Dan loving your videos. I have bought a Hayter Hawk and found it’s working well. However I feel it’s time for further investment as I some dead grass building up. What do recommend ? Do I buy a scarifier or an another mower with a Verticut attachment? I love to hear your thoughts?
Great vid thank you. So I’ve started the first step to trying to get more grass than clover and other weeds that’s over running the garden. I’ve put weed killer down a few days ago and as yet not seeing anything happening. Would scarifying help with the weeds or is it worth waiting it out for a few weeks. Also you mentioned about not seeding at this time of year. Is that a strict rule as I really wanna get on with this lawn. Thanks again mate
you will struggle to keep the seed moist, you would need to water every 10 minutes, best to wait imo. most weed killers will tell you not to seed for 6 to 8 weeks anyway.
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpertyeah thought this would be the case. But what about scarifying to help with the weeds ??? Would this help get rid of them or not really ??
@@robpullen sorry I know you asked dan but I can tell you things from my experiences, scarification will not do anything to weeds except maybe spread them. If you sprayed a weed killer then let it do it’s job by killing the plant to the root. After a few weeks you can just dig them out, scarification can also bring dormant weed seeds to the top of the soil so if you did have quite a weedy lawn be just be prepared for more. But your got on top of it eventually.
@@SuperChalkster thanks for the reply. And of course it’s obvious I’m a newbie but I did want to let the weed killer do its job over the next few weeks. But the lawn is pretty big and so overrun by the weeds I thought scarifying may help. I didn’t mean I wanted to seed right now lol. But I do want to get it nice as quick as possible lol.
Just googled and there's one with reasonable reviews from screwfix for under £70, Essentials 32cm 1500W Raker & Scarifier 230-240V (296FG) Cheers and good luck.
