Very well made video without going the "lazy route" of adding pictures that have nothing to do with what is being talked about! I subscribed, keep it up!
The footage of Avrocar flying through a cut down fence was part of a military test and was the second try to get through/over that fence (it was unable to clear the 8 foot fence so engineers were forced to cut down the fence so it could make it to the field on the other side).
Really neat video. My grandfather was John Frost's friend and one of his right hand men in the development of this aircraft, Thomas Desmond Earl. Our family moved over from England when John asked for his help on this project. My father has the small prototype that was created.
Wow, very nice quality of the video, good amount of information. I just came here because of "oh what, a real flying saucer? gotta google that" and don't really care for aircrafts, but the quality made me subscribe. Very nice, keep it up.
Hey again, that was a very well made avrocar documentary, like; the best so far on the whole of youtube! How come you have so little views? Maybe add "Real flying saucer" to the title. That is wat it is, though nothing alien. Thanks for citing me as one of your sources (laesieworks.com), I recognized the images that came from my website. I really like how you animated the technical drawing. The avrocar progress report films from the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration, did you use their youtube video's, or did you get access to higher quality originals? -I would like to color correct these videos, to make them look really good. What a special project, and I wonder if they have build some that are still secret. Giesbert
Very well made documentary! Good job. What music did you use? I really enjoyed it, it fit nicely. EDIT: nvm, it was in the credits, it's Denmark by Portland Cello Project
Pretty clever engineering really. It's a slide rule, math, and theory. Avro was definitely tried and gave a very clever go. I just don't understand why Britain and Canada pretty much destroyed it's local aerospace companies through politics...damn shame
What if you mix this art of propulsion with Helicopter and Gyroscope effect? on the outside of Helicopter tail wings Weights is spinning fast perhaps with a 2nd weight in counter direction like we have today with these tailless helicopters and the Air engine here is for movement, where the Gyroscope is for stabilization and steering the directions. Also this could make this less dangerous to gusts of wind Well we have 3D Printing for testing Prototypes. Good Luck
I had two uncles who were machinists for Avro that worked on this very project. I knew only one of them before He passed away and I was very young back then. I was an Aviation nut back then but only just learning how vast it could be. My Dad told me about some of their stories working on the Arrow as well as the AvroCar but I was never able to find out any more further information about what exactly they worked on for Avro as it means something to me now; for I'm studying Aerospace Engineering at university.
If all countries just shared their designs and stop designing these machines for destruction we could probably go out to other worlds and come together to fix the mess on the planet (infrastructure etc) .
Best case of "Biting Off More Than You Can Chew" right here. USAF wanted a flying saucer, and Avro really tried to pull it off, but pre computer and Pre Harrier time period....no dice
Not true that it didn't work. As a first-ever iteration of a rough-field landing gear for a STOL supersonic plane, it worked superbly. See the USAF/Avro "Weapons System 606a" Now see it on rough ground Avrocar Continuation Test Program and Terrain Test Program, 06/01/1960 - 06/14/1961 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-opD86VZSWpo.htmlsi=nKpChQCKR4jyr7kG
seriously ! did you think that after that they don't improve this design ? of course yes !! with all technology now and adding electronics for stability (even cars have that now) ! that explain all UFO footage !! of cours they don't show random civilians those things like a lot of things ! until decades !
Not surprising failure. A flying saucer in the loosest sense. Simply a circular shaped object levitating. Surely they're missing the trick. The secret is in the rotation of the flying disc as in a frosty ... The gyroscopic effect holding it in formation
I guess if this hover car were development today, the engineers would use computers to automate flight stabilization. You might get more views of this video today since today, the Museum of the USAF highlighted this experimental air craft on their Facebook page.
Imagine if you were from that time and expressed your doubt about the future of this aircraft and Reddit and Twitter angry “elites” would call you names for not understanding the true future of aviation 😂
Se era pra fazer um homercraft poderiam usar outro formato, que não o discoide. Tentar propelir uma nave na forma de disco voador com ventilador é tão ridículo quanto impulsionar um F 22 com hélices.
As Tim Taylor would say, It just needed more power!!! hook a Blown 454 to that shit!!! granted, its gonna be heavy, but once ya dial it all in, itll ZOOM

They recently restored the Avro car at the Dayton USAF museum
I bet that with using modern computing technology would be quite lot of instability issues solved and like many modern jet fighters actualy exploited for some unusual fligth characteristics. Athough it would be hell of a expensive project with questionable practicality :D
Please define "almost" as in almost functional. There were thought this vehicle could travel up to twice the speed of sound. 3:01 - The footage I've seen shows a very slow vehicle barely able to clear a 4 foot fence.
What they should have done is put a heavy spinning gyro inside so that it rotates in the opposite direction of the force that makes it wobble so much. Putting a spoiler on the back like a 90s sports car was a silly idea
It would have been amazing if they figured out a solution to all the flaws it had, while keeping the basic shape. Just image what something like that would have effected todays technology.
Penso que um nave em formato de disco deva usar a anti gravidade para se locomover dentro da atmosfera, ou eletromagnetismo ( atração e repulsão magnética usando o campo magnético da terra 🌎).
I still believe the concept to develop this is solid, I just think with proper materials and some kind of digital control computer based may be functional (maybe not for military but 4 civilian usage) just like how develop a B2 without tail would be imposible without computers.
Polyus Studios since it couldn’t even fly properly, lol! I think the only reason people back then were obsessed by the disc shaped aircraft is because there were already flying saucers in the sky, and possibly those were not human made, apart from alle the fakes that were made, I’m sure they were not all fakes.
@@polyus_studios if it is now a black projekt, no one from use will know it. With Projekt 1794 in mind and our technologie from today ..... . In the fifthies they had no fly by wire, no flightcontrol computer. There was the yb-49 grown into the B2, The Tilt Rotor planes grown into the Osprey. ...and idont mind to dream.
@@polyus_studios possibly but modern fighters like the F16,F22,F35,B2 and the eurofighter are built to be unstable just like the Avrocar and need computers to fly as Human Beings don't have the reaction time . It would be interesting to see what modern avionics could do
@@gaddisonmail First of all, if the U.S. "picked it up", you have already lost the argument that it was 100% American. Second the company from which the name "Avrocar" was derived, was Avro CANADA. It was designed, built, and tested ENTIRELY IN CANADA!!! You literally have no idea what you are talking about!
No it was always an avro project in Canada . It had US marking but was always canadian.the issue was always handling which modern computers could handle easily .
