In these uncertain times, it's more important than ever to have a solid understanding of how to manage your finances, invest wisely and navigate economic downturns. But my primary concern is how to grow my reserve of $240k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains, sure I'm all in on the long term game, but with my savings are lying waste to inflation and my portfolio losing gains everyday, I need a remedy.
If you need advice, consider speaking with a financial advisor. Don't get me wrong, you can do it on your own, but financial advisors have a lot more knowledge and expertise in this area.
you are completely right, Advisors have information and paths that are not disclosed to the public.. I profited £560k in 2022 under the tutelage of my Fiduciary-counselor. Am I selling? Absolutely not.. I am going to sit back and observe how this all plays out.
Finding financial advisors like Margaret Johnson Arndt who can assist you shape your portfolio would be a very creative option. There will be difficult times ahead, and prudent personal money management will be essential to navigating them.
This has been one of your best episodes ever. Steve was especially candid and correct. Canada was a great country, and the problems are stacking up. But hey, we have tampons in the Men's bathroom. 😂. That was the best rant....ever. I agree 100%. You guys are way better than anyone in the MSM. After watching you guys, I can't even watch 2 minutes of CTV or CBC news. You guys are the best!!!
Yes EV’s are great for Canadas 5 month winters , im sure 4x4 will never be needed! I’ll support the fuel side that doesn’t use child labour like in Africa mining for cobalt
i just got a beautiful petroleum running wrangler. I love pulling over the odd time for a few minutes and spending some of that dollar on some inexpensive petroleum and keep moving. Nobody talks about how many tires i should save with having such a light non electric vehicle too. Thanks guys !
Do you have any links to information about tire wear of EVs vs equivalent gas vehicles? Not sure there is much in it for tire wear between the Wrangler 4XE and the regular Wrangler. Of course the Wrangler 4xe is more powerful so maybe a person would drive it faster/harder and wear tires faster.
@@bradcomis1066 short info do your own DD Torque speed tire wear and weight of vehicle battery more talking Tesla . Batteries too heavy for travel will cause expensive tire repairs .

Considering Canadians don't have rental stability or can't own a home, how do we live in cars that need to be plugged in? Asking for a (friiend...) who does not like where this is going....
Another thing to consider is insurance rates for EV's. I was quoted over $3K/year from ICBC in the Lower Mainland for a brand new Tesla versus less than $2K with my current gas car. And this is with 15 years of driving experience with a clean record.
@@michaelmikita3953 Lower mainland is notoriously expensive for insurance. Lots and lots of horrible drivers has run the cost of insurance up for everyone
@@Biscuits3000 i just did a quick google search. It looks like you guys pay the most out of all the provinces. Now listen; as an albertan, we cant afford any more BC migration!!! What is going on in that province of yours?!?!?!
A question to ponder is, would the West be implementing the EV requirements because the ruling authorities know that further East-West divide (eg: China invading Taiwan) is coming and oil independence is of utmost priority so economical independence can continue? If China, Russia, India, Brazil, Saudi Arabia (BRICS plus) start breaking away further from the West including not using Oil as the underpinning for currency trading while also going away from the U.S. dollar, then the West would need to break away from their reliance on OPEC and the threat of oil markets being a tool that the East can use as a real pressure tactic like we saw at the beginning of the Ukraine war. I fear there’s more global conflict coming as I’m not convinced the “green” movements by Western governments are altruistic as much as they are a way to move economies from high pressures that can be exerted by the East as it attempts to separate from the U.S. driven world order that has been status quo for the lifetimes of everyone who’s alive today. I drive a 2017 Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid and have saved money as I drive mostly in electric mode and how relatively low electricity costs here in BC. I’m not against electric vehicles and enjoy mine immensely but I’m not sure the government’s narrative is altruistic and may have a deeper agenda behind this forced transition other than just carbon emissions reductions as any deep reading on this subject shows what Canada can effect in reductions has a negligible affect on global emissions and Canada does not have a big enough global leadership role that can exert pressure on other (especially impoverished) countries to follow its lead. Canada doesn’t have the global authority many in Canada think or wishes it had.
Just so many problems with this Governments Policies ? I fail to understand how the vast majority Canadians currently struggling Financially ? will have either the disposable Income ? nor if they can afford an EV ? the 'supply' of affordable EV's to purchase ?... let be electrical infrastructure itself or "power" to fill that infrastructure and charge an EV ?
It's a mandate, doesn't need to be rational nor conform to physical laws or reality (gov is dumb and clueless). End result is to keep car ownership to the rich, the rest will take the bus or walk. Heck they only need to go as far as 15 minutes around their house.
Re Immigration. Why is no one asking this question "why is Canada bringing so many people in in such a hurry?". My fear is that this is more than just making up for an ageing demographic.
The reason why? Because our government (any government administration) run out of money faster than we thought. The current CPP to our seniors are paid by current CPP contributions from our pay check. It’s NOT what we thought or being told it will go toward “Our future pension”. So, if our government not bring in more “tax payers” now or future, Canada will be broke. So regardless who is the PM, the immigration policy won’t change. This just the tip of the iceberg.
About the gas stacking part of the pod. It has a relatively short shelf life. You better install solar with batteries if you wanna be a prepper. Yes even in Canada solar makes sense, we have enough sunshine and contrary to popular beliefs, solar panels are more efficient in fall and spring than in summer due to colder climate. Also, even if you charge your car with electricity coming from fossil fuel (coal might still be bad idk) it's usually better. You get scale efficiency from mass generation vs small car engines. Electric car are generally more efficient with their energy use also.
California average price per kWh is 15.3 cents USD or 20.3 cents CAD BC is 11.9 cents CAD or 9 cents USD. Our local CHEK news just published a FUD article "Beware costs and logistics of at-home chargers before buying an electric car" saying a residential install of L2 charger is $3,000-$5,000 and a monthly jump in electricity bill of $200 which is equivalent of driving 80,000 km per year.
Gasoline and diesel personal vehicles should have been banned years ago. Every time you go to a gas station or smell fumes you are literally being poisoned. If you enjoy that you can still buy these dirty cars on the used market.
I have been surprised that Non Plugin Hybrids have not been included. Not hard to figure this one out. Plus EV is not the way to go at this time with some exceptions
I’d like to hear a deep dive in what this will potentially do to the used car market (the cars those with less money buy) since EVs tend to have a 10 year life max before requiring recap/new battery. Haven’t heard anyone talking on this, but you guys seemed to touch on how these car mandates negatively impact those with the least income.
Used car prices will skyrocket, and the new car sales will bankrupt the car companies and trigger a bailout and more socialist corruption to even things out
I’m with Keith on providing perspective - minister salary should be the average salary of their riding. Let’s see how sympathetic they become. Great vid and Merry Christmas b’ys!

@@Picklemedia it’s very complicated matter. Partially it’s printed money by the government, partially-population explosion in Canada, changing demographics, etc. most of what Steve says, I do agree with
Homes will never be affordable again in this nation. Previous generations, current mortgage debtors, homeowners, everyone involved in real estate and gov at all levels don't want homes to be affordable because they all benefit from higher prices. Previous generations who are homeowners, current mortgage debtors, investors, banks and everyone involved in the real estate industry all benefit from higher homes by living off cheap credit and built up equity and gov of all levels benefit from the higher tax and permit revenues it generates from higher prices. So all of the parties mentioned there is no incentive for lower home prices. They do not care about the prosperity of future generations. They do not care about anyone but themselves in all honesty. The parties mentioned just see young people and immigrants as p€@$@n+$ & $!@v€$ to pay for pensions and gov spending. You can't start a stable family renting or you will eventually lose your family. There's no point in paying taxes in a nation you'll never be able to afford a home in. The best thing young people can do is save up and leave the nation.( I hope those who benefit from the chaos are happy you got what you wanted.)

I just read an article, the EV owners in the States where the storm has knocked out the electric power are suffering. Right now alot of Canadians can't afford a home, let alone a EV. Merry Christmas 3 amigos. Looking forward to 2024!
I'm a huge EV optimist. There is one major issue right now with EVs: Product offering. There aren't the right choices at the right prices currently. I think we will see these come soon. There are signs that these can exist as there are some great drivetrains available, but they are in the wrong body (see Chevy Bolt).
Another issue is that we are taking lithium a scarce resource out of the ground, which the mining process is extremally environmentally unfriendly. We have no idea by taking this element out of the ground what it is going to do to the earths core, electric magnetic fields, etc. Further there is not enough lithium on the plant to power cars for even the UK, let alone Canada, USA or the world. So it will be only for the rich, we need a better solution like Hydrogen, which you can buy right now from Toyota for about the same price as a Tesla and fill up for 1/4 cost of a gas engine.
I think the main question is at the end of the day, taking a comprehensive view from materials coming out of the ground to end of life of the battery, how much green house gas is released into the air for both electric and IC vehicles?
Subsidizing the rich indeed: during the pandemic, I had the displeasure of having to listen to a really rich woman gloating about how much money her and her friends made bidding up the price of EV vehicles during the pandemic by pre-ordering them with their mega (tax-payer-funded) incomes. Also, I don't think EVs are as "clean" as they claim to be, especially considering the limited lifetime of the battery and all the mining that goes into producing them. They seem to be a greater accident risk too, given their propensity to ignite. So, in short, not only will they end up costing everyone more in electricity, they'll probably also be "driving" up insurance costs too.
Car batteries won't go to trash. Once there's enough volume it will be much more affordable to build recycling center for them. The cost of insurance going up is due to the electronic in cars. Every part has sensors, so any accident damages important component that can't easily be replaced.
Ad hominem is an argument directed at a person rather than the position they are taking. This is a fallacy in logic. IE calling someone a “babbling turd” to prove your point. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the economy every week. I love it! Cheers
The show was excellent, but I believe there's a key detail regarding the BC rebate for electric vehicles that needs clarification. My understanding is that this rebate is available only to individuals with an income below $100K. Consequently, the argument presented against these subsidies may not be entirely accurate.
Is it possible that all this excess immigration is actually propping up inflation (by increasing aggregate demand), thus giving BoC a reason to keep rates elevated? Otherwise Canada would be experiencing rapid deflation and force BoC to reduce rates, while the FED had been signalling “higher for longer”. All to save the CAD.
I am pretty sure that it is not written as EVs but as ZEVs. Also, I personally don't care to decarbonize. I also have a prediction that the swing against this policy will be counter to the intentions of the folks that wrote it.
are we.... going to talk about how high the carbon footprint of making EVs is in the firstplace? It's far higher than ICE cars with today's technology. I don't think this EV revolution can really work until we've figured out a different battery chemistry.
Gentlemen I would like to report from Southern California the past 66 years the climate has not changed. Nor has the water line at the beach moved one bit. I will check it again the last day of this year and report back. Signing off from San Diego this is River rat.
Don't forget that also at the COP meetings are talks around reparation payments from developed nations to developing nations. These are reparations for the damage to the climate that developed nations have caused with their high fossil fuel consumption lifestyles. The total reparation figure calculated in June was US$170 trillion, paid at a rate of US$6 trillion a year. The US would pay US$80 trillion. Based on that, Canada would have to pay about US$8 trillion. So every Canadian would receive an additional tax bill of roughly CA$280,000 to pay these reparations.
Haha. Canada is on the route to being a single leader country (supposedly elected) and telling what people what to do. Canada is so socialistics, my friends said that Canada was more communist than China. I laughed when he said that. When I went to China, I realized that China was focused on capitalism. It is kind of weird...the socialistic country (Canada) calling a supposedly capitalistic country (China) but communism.
If the oil price is expensive, CPI will increase. Oil price is always manipulated by big oil countries that makes very unstable for the price . We should not too much rely on it.
I work in the end of life vehicle recycling business, it’s difficult enough to find people who can /want to recycle old gas cars let alone EV’s or hybrid . EV’s are extremely dangerous to recycle, especially when they are damaged in an accident or just old . And I’d like to know how the “government “ plans to deal with all the EV’s when they reach the garbage stage…
Can somebody please explain the math to me. If china, Brazil, India, russia and the rest of the world keeps their carbon emission going up and up and we go green in Canada does that mean the world becomes green all of a sudden? Also is anyone talking about the cost of replacing the damn batteries?
Honestly, before these deadlines we'll either have removed these lunatics in power or have moved to another country. That's the only reason why I'm not to worried with this craziness.
I wonder if the green rating of the EVs includes battery replacement/recycling. There are a few cases recently become public when minor scratches/damage to the battery resulting into whole battery replacement which costs the same as a new car (Google Hyundai EV6 battery replacement)
For the ev part = no country has the electric grid and systems in place. New report just out shows how the hot summer recently drastically dropped hydro production and efficiency. Look at the power draw per fast charger and do some simple math there. EV efficiency drops hard in colder temperatures, and that's a fact. All manufacturers are cutting back EV production effective immediately. Unless you are living and not leaving a major city in Canada, EVs still don't make sense. Our governments don't have the money for the subsidies anymore after spending 500+ billion in the last few years. Things need to keep evolving on all sides, and let's not just follow our fearless leaders off the cliff lnao
Soon as I heard California I started thinking about his credibility. What they don't tell you is over the entire life span of gas and ev's (ie getting resources for batteries) ev's have a much higher carbon foot print.
If the ICE ban allows hybrids, get ready to see a lot of "technically a hybrid" vehicles with the absolute minimum battery and motor needed to qualify. You see it a lot with electric scooters and mopeds with tiny vestigial pedals in order to qualify as bicycles
People are missing the wording of the proposed standards....100% of sales must be EV - but they don't tell you how many sales they expect. Hope you all like the bus
As someone what did electrical engineering in power systems......I can only say .....Hahahaha. What do politicians not know? As an expert and the expert needs $$$. I am too old for this and cannot find a benefit for this......I will continue with gas.
How many of the immigrants are school-aged children? What is the population growth of school-aged Canadians year over year? What is our population growth accounting for immigration in aggregate?
As long as we can continue to strip mine Developing Countries and have little regulation for our Pollution in those Countries we can probably get 0.3% of the world to drive 'clean' vehicles. I'm sure Politicians haven't planed for the additional strain on the Electric Grid but we can probably burn that gas we are not putting in vehicle to keep the lights on.
The gasoline/electric/steam propulsion debate was settled in the early part of the 20th century. Realistically, all the drawbacks of battery power still exist. If there was a tech breakthrough since rhen, wouldn't some company have found and developed it by now? I don't consider modern batteries technologically advanced, as they are just bigger with computers to control discharge and charge rates. And watercooling to (hopefully) prevent thermal runaway The ignorance of Trudeau's Clown Cabinet believing they can legislate technology advancements in place of research and development is truly breathtakingly clueless and dangerous.
Just think data is bad and is being fudged. Have fun. Love each other. Help your neighbour and neighbourhoods, trust each other, and maybe we can build a better future together without policy makers and podcasters will become farmers.
In a democratic society all electoral ridings that vote liberal or NDP in the next election should be mandated to transition to the insane EV madness and the rest should be allowed the freedom to keep their efficient internal combustion vehicles.
Your guest at the 14-minute mark, does he know how many people die in africa and china to mine the materials to build these ev? Does he understand how hatd it is to put out an ev fire? The fact of living is ev are a good 2nd car, nor a primary car.
So if the governments build all the rental housing they promise. Does it occur to anyone that there will be glut of cheap rentals on the market? If you are a spec you may want to consider that your 3K a month rental may not rent.... Just sayin
