At the end of the 19th century, the area was the most fashionable holiday destination for wealthy North Americans. Boldt Castle tells the most colourful story of this time: a hotel magnate from Prussia had it built as a declaration of love to his wife and even shaped the island into a heart. In the fourth instalment of their documentary series, authors Almut Faass and Frank Gensthaler explore the true story behind the decay of the former fairytale castle, the supposedly shortest international bridge in the world and delve into the underwater world of the Thousand Islands. More than 75 shipwrecks lie in the crystal blue waters. Dave Sheridan wants to fulfil a childhood dream and dive to the oldest wreck in the region, the French warship "Iroquoise".
Even today, there are still a few captains who dare to set sail among the many small islands. Under the command of Caitlin Simpson, young people between the ages of 12 and 19 can take part in a sailing camp on the "Fair Jeanne". On Hill Island, the only Canadian island that can be reached by car via an impressive bridge, the German expat couple Heidi and Konradt Linckh have fulfilled a dream. They operate the most striking sight on the Thousand Islands, a 130 metres high observation tower.
