I'm doing my BEng in the UK (fianl year ) and got accepted in the uni of sheffield for a MSC in Data analytics but I'm still considering applying to l'université de Montréal given its ranking in CS (and yes I'm fluent in French #MoroccanGang). And it is somewhat of a dilemma, because sheffield is highly regarded in the UK while Montréal has a far better ranking in Computer Science in the world but still has this reputation of not being competitive when it comes to admission. I am studying Computer science in the Uk, I don't know about Canada, but studying undergrad in the UK is completely different than you explain at least in my field and may more than I know, but I am gonna give an example of mine. Here, consistency during the terms is also important, the labs are worth 20-30% of the overall module mark and every module has labs. then, usually is an assignment and an exam. As it comes to modules choice - we choose our final year modules in the UK. There are standard compulsory modules in year and year 2, second-half, but after that, there is a list of modules where you can choose your modules and for the final year you chose all of your modules as well as your project or bachelor's dissertation. Uk universities are mostly reacher-based. Students are doing 70% of their work with their research, not in exams but the assignments and labs. for example, half of the modules that I've taken, lectures were completely unrelated to the labs and assignments. for example, I had a module that they were teaching us computer history and the labs were on creating operating systems. In my field in the UK, the assignments and the labs are kinda close to real-life problems. I did add my assignments to my cv and applied for a job. Then prices, I've been paying rent for student accommodation in London for no more than 550 per month(double-room) all-inclusive. I am always talking about my own experience.
