Hey guys, this is one example of prices you'd encounter at a Canadian grocery store nowadays. Certainly not cheap and prices continue to increase.
What do you think about our prices? If you're from another country, how do they compare?

We left Canada three years and a half years ago. Taxes are obscene, housing is insane, living costs are absolutely crazy. Canada is charging five star prices for a three star hotel. Not worth it anymore. I hope Canada can regain it's former glory....it's going to take a decade to even see some improvements.

Isn't that what Canada wanted? A Socialist utopia? I mean... Canada is getting exactly what they voted for. You actually thought taxing the rich would cause the rich to pay their fair share? Instead the rich just rolled the taxes into their products... thus making the people relying on the government even more ... more assistance... more votes.

Some of these prices are similar to Australia where prices went up a lot around 2021-2022. Some eg. butter, eggs seem a bit more in Canada. Both Australia and Canada seem to be following a similar economic model based around bringing in millions of immigrants when there is not enough housing to benefit corporate oligopoly.

As a Canadian, I can confirm most of this. It's not a complete monopoly. You can shop at Costco, Walmart and other discounted places. Eggs you can get on sale 18 for $4.99. It's Sep 16th and 27 degrees out, so it was just a cool snap for a couple days there when he was taping. It's been milder lately over the years. But yes in the past 2 years food prices have escalated but you can find deals if you look. Some places even do price matching. He also wasn't shopping with a flyer, so he missed out on deals. @@uggguuuuu plus they get to charge you 15% sales tax on that junk food too. Did you know, if you buy a box of granola bars, that are 5 bars or less, you pay 15% sales tax. If you buy a box with more inside you don't pay the tax. Mind you, it's something along the lines of 5 bars or less. Not sure of the exact number. Doesn't make sense, eh? We shouldn't be paying tax on any food, including so-called junk food. Food is food. Go to an undeveloped country and tell them that certain kinds of food is junk. When the GST was introduced I was just a young kid. We were told that it would not affect food, clothing, and other essentials. Then they slowly started taxing us on it as the years went by. Carbon tax? That's a way for them to tax the rest of the food that they can't get away with calling junk food. So in other words, it's the tax on veggies and fruits, meats and dairy. As far as you know it, carbon tax. It's the farmers paying into it, thus that price being passed onto us.

Krogers is the largest owner of grocery stores in the US although they aren’t all called Krogers. We shop mostly at Aldi which is definitely cheaper than Krogers but about the same as Walmart and Target which are also major sellers of groceries. Russian supermarkets are full of food stolen from Ukraine. And Russia doesn't have distributors and suppliers and they don't pay farmers for the goods being sold. In Canada, produce, chicken, beef all comes from local farmers who are paid a fair price for their food so it's why we pay a bit more. Climate change has also been affecting crops so farmers have been charging suppliers and stores more for their food so the stores have to slightly increase prices for us. It's called mark up. I have never considered Fortinos to be middle or upper middle class. Fortinos is known to be one of the expensive stores. Upper middle class is the regular Loblaws stores. I find Fortinos to be the highest priced items in the Loblaws brands. I used to Instacart so I see prices and see how much things cost on the regular.

Fortinos is upper middle class. I don’t think you can group it in the same category as high class stores such as McEwan, Bruno’s, Pusateri’s, Whole Foods, etc. Price-wise, unless there is a good sale somewhere, retail pricing is similar to most other stores such as NoFrills, Walmart, etc.
@Thejazzerc
@Thejazzerc 6 дней назад
@KouroshKamyabi I wouldn't compare sale prices at Walmart/No Frills/Food Basics/ Frescho prices to a sale at Fortinos. It's still quite a significant difference. I stopped Instacarting this year, and I honestly notice who purchases what in each store. Fortinos, you guarantee that these will go to a massive house in a super rich area. While it is as expensive as McEwens and I have shopped for customers there, it is a little misleading to show prices at Fortinos bc most people will not shop at Fortinos and people will tend to shop at the cheaper stores to reflect the true prices of what most Canadians pay.

Foods from grocery stores should be vegetables, dairy, milk, eggs, flour, sugar, butter and meats. People should really stop of being lazy and cook more themselves, stop buying pre-made foods, frozen foods etc. I paid in my town 2 weeks ago for 18 eggs and they were 6.29$, 4 liter of milk 3.25% for 7.29$, 2 lettuces for 0.99 cents, butter at 4.99$ each so i bought 20 X 454 grams and frozen them in my freezer, i had cans of corn, green beans etc at 0.89 cents each and grab 24 of each etc. Chips, soft drinks, beer are not needed in every day life, they are fun once in a while but not regularly either. People need to prioritize their own priorities and not fall into the trap of consumption either, come back to reality.

That bill is so insane. I had to rewatch the video to see watch you bought. Tips......making kefir and hummus are super easy and cheap. Don't buy process foods which you can make at home cheaply. The tomatoes were ridiculous, rather go without. The chips, not only expensive but some of the most toxic foods you can eat. Gnocchi, again so cheap and better to make at home. Olive oil, need to check as 80% are fake or blended. If you didn't include the Epson salts, tomatoes, hummus and kifir, the bill would have been at least CAD 25 cheaper. Bottom line.....the more it's processed and " convenient ", the more you pay.

Minimum wage, pay 16 an hour, 16x 40 = 560$ a week x 4= 2240$ Rent in cheapest city is close to 1800$ a month for one bedroom apartment, you can't live on your own as single person, you need to live with the family to survive.. I would say average 4000$ dollars a month, if you live alone you will spend 2000$ on rent, 300$ on car insurance, 200$ on the entertainments such Internet and phone, 200$ on utilities, 500$ taxes, 500$ or more on food, 200$ on gas, if you live alone you can't save much at the end of the month..

I do love you chose sourdough which is more expensive but"made in house"which comes from a bag you mix with water. So not actually sourdough just a name of yet the other one was actual sourdough with a starter that's accountable and nutrient level well beyond the cheaper one you went for. When it comes to eggs I think Canadians are absolutely blind to the fact that Canadian egg standards don't require all of this b******* nest egg free-range omega-3 omega-6 attached to the eggs because actually all of them are basic standard across the board. They are just marketed based on diet and colour of yolk. Or humane standards are that level. I still can't see what store you're shopping at because I've never actually seen butter prices that high and I live in East York. Goes with the Canastoga egg brand while it's the more expensive regularly egg versus the Costco Canastoga which is smaller farmed sourced , higher grade feed and half the price. I will not even get into the alcohol price as Peroni is what you're highlighting as European beer 😅 meanwhile it's the cheapest in Italy. Loaker is mostly 2.99 at most stores on sale at 2.50. No idea about water bottles as you don't need to purchase bottle in most countries outside of North American

It depends where in Canada you live and what stores you go to. Walmart is on top for the price trust me. A store about 3km from the Walmart sells chips for about $6 compared to Walmarts $4 for 235 grams. Or just get off brand chips for $1.50.
