Here is a short video of Lyndon working with our new team of French Canadian horses. The disc harrows that he is sitting on being pulled behind the horses is used to break up the ground after plowing.
Yes. Two gangs of disks are mounted at more severe angles (from the horizontal) facing each other allowing the dirt to be "hipped" or thrown to the middle to form a row. These row making tools are more aggressive than the shown disks that face each other but are horizontally set. Also, and Middle Buster plow is used to make rows. They a fixed pointed plow with two curved moldboards that plow the middle between each row making 1/2 of two rows with each pass. the middle buster is severe and requires more horsepower than the lighter pulling disc harrows. My great grandfather plowed our family farm with mules. Today we don't plow. We use no till planters as to not disturb the soil and plant 83 rows of quality long grain rice in one pass! He would be proud of how my sons care for the family farm.
I canot figure out where Mr Lyndon 'Johnson' ex Vice President and then President of USA is working in a form. It is still look nice that when I see highly mechnised soceity where you see John Dere and Caterpiller in and around farms, the scene of using horses look always hilarious and romantic.
