Bands were started by the Turkish Army as a means of maintaining order and disapline when marching. Also tunes were a means of communicating orders, the Diaego (No Quarter) played by the Mexican army at the Siege of the Alamo being perhaps the best known example.

My comment was directed at JTFII and I never claimed the advance training the trades of Infantry or combat engineering require. I specifically stated that many like myself have there 404's or administration and logistics and this is where they would be used in time of war. I have the same weapons proficiency basic military training and fitness standards that all militia members have and that in Canada we are soldiers first and foremost. And frankly during modern times we have not had to...

As a Cadet myself it it pains me to see bad drill as well. But then, those who usually have bad drill are lower ranked ones, so you can't blame them for too much.

I, as a RCAC myself am quite confused as to why the RCAC was invited to be in this military event, and it pain me too to see drill that could have been portrayed so much better but wasn’t.

As a military bandsman I can tell you we have the exact same training as any other soldier. We do the same basic are required to maintain the same standard of fitness and weapons proficiency. Many of us have our 404's (military drivers license) and in times of war we do WHATEVER is required. We are a support trade in every sense of the word so I suggest you learn what you are talking about JTFII

I suspect just by that guys username alone "JTFII" that he's a walt phoney. Thank you Ladylockern for clearing it up. Bandsman have traditionally in H.M. Service fulfilled a role of stretcher bearers in the field. A role which is still obviously upheld.

unsurpassed in its ability to connect 'rank n file' civilians with their nations military. Most of us don't know what Colonel Joe's work life is like. But when we see a sharp military band and like it, we remember we have a military fighting and dying for our country's sake. Hopefully that's a good thing to us to consider often. And be thankful for, with the respect due their sacrifice. These are my thoughts =]
