Canadian Pacific's steam locomotive, known as "The Empress", is in charge of the Final Spike Anniversary Steam Tour from Calgary, AB, to Mexico City, Mexico. The trip was made to commemorate the merging of Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern in 2023.
We chase the train from Balfour, ND, to Plymouth, MN, on a few different CPKC Subdivisions.

She is equipped with the original steam whistle and an air whistle near the front. The air whistle is required because it is louder than the steam whistle. Reference information about the whistle from another video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UQVgruNuEXM.htmlsi=DLfwMr0XTDzXxilg

Any idea on where it’s going to? Mexico City? Kansas City? Jasper, Alberta?

What a contrast in speed from Union Pacific. The whistle doesn’t sound real it’s so bad.

They still have the real, cord operated whistle and it sounds lovely. Unfortunately, they are forced to use this ugly whistle due to transport Canada regulations. When she left Calgary, my Sister videotaped her and she used the proper whistle. The true voice of the Empress. You’re right, this “whistle”sounds gank!

@@ianhartley5057So they’ll have to use that awful fake whistle throughout the whole US?

Shame they don't use the "real" whistle that this locomotive has more often. The air whistle is louder and more close to the front of the locomotive, hence they use it.

@@KhangLuRailVideos I totally agree! Some videos when they are not at level crossings I see the engineer uses the real whistle. I’m sure it bothers him to have to use the mechanics one too.

They were not needed in the U.S, but required in Canada. They opted to take the more photogenic approach here in the states.
