"Shuswap" is the English version name of the Indigenous People The Secwepemec, who gave their name to a large lake nearby, and hence the district. It is in the western foothills of the Columbia Mountains, named after the large Canada-USA river which starts in this region. The lush inland temperate rainforest is typical of the Columbia Mountains and is the only one of its type in the world. This was all filmed in the Eagle Pass, where the "Last Spike" of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven in 1885, a small park and cairn now marks the site.
Love that the Rocky Mountaineer loves to let people know its comeing with that amazeing horn on the bridge in sicamous my cousin works in that white box reads a book till they need to turn bridge for big houseboats to pass
@@SantaFe5811 nobody I know in my years at CP ever called it that, mountain east or west but i digress. Usually subdivisions are separated into major yards where crews change directions, Revy, mountain east west Kamloops, north bend, Field, Laggan. Maybe on paper like station Craigalachie, famous but no one recognises it anymore.. Revy was the lowest seniority station/sub in all Canada, crews went east or west depending on who liked you in the yard office, I went west a lot of the time, as I grew up in Kamloops this was great. Oddly enough one of the highest seniority jobs in Canada was the Vernon/Sicamouse switcher I worked for a bit and finally the passenger train from Kamloops to feild and back.
Just letting you know for bulk commodities like grain or potash, Westbounds are Loads, and Eastbounds are Empties. Otherwise, you filmed a fantastic video series on your trip to North America! :)
A little mixed up the grain trains there. Eastbounds are empty and westbounds are loaded. Same goes for Potash and coal. Good video though. I 300 yards from the mainline in Sicamous.
Great video. Some of the descriptions are a little off though. For example: An eastbound grain train would likely be empty. Still, very nice. Thanks for sharing.
