So an actor is only supposed to portray someone exactly like himself? There is NOTHING wrong with an actor pretending to be someone from, say, another ethinicity. It's their JOB!
Oh absolutely! Actors can portray a wide variety of characters, for sure. As a former actor I agree with you. However I urge you to look up the history of black face in the entertainment industry to greater understand why it can be problematic :)
@@MeganRuth Thank you for your reply. I know the history of blackface in the US, but that was then. I see no problem why one couldn't pretend to be Black in today's world. If, say, some oppressed people were forced to wear purple shirts in the 19th century, why on earth would wearing a purple shirt be problematic now, in the 21st century? We have to learn to let go. What about fat suits? Should only morbidly obese people be allowed to play fat people in films? After all, obese people have been bullied for so long.
Matt Lucas who played Vicky Pollard is in the movie Bridesmaids as Rebel Wilson's brother so it seems that some casting director also saw a resemblance there too.
Lou and Andy, the wheelchair one, was originally started as a parody Andy Warhol and Lou Reed for another show, Rock Profiles. Mine and many people's favourites was where they go swimming. Lou goes to find a lifeguard to help Andy into the water. However in the background Andy gets out of his chair, climbs onto a diving board and dives expertly into the pool. Best thing that Lou says to the lifeguard that Andy is afraid of touching the water, just as Andy Lands in the pool. Excellent timing. Andy swims to the exit, and climbs back into his chair just as Lou convinced the lifeguard to help them. He use to do this a lot, getting out of his chair and causing chaos. 😂
That looks such a cosy set up. British humour is either crushingly dry or ridiculously anarchic. Often dark. We love dark humour. Hope you have nice 2024!
Hey Megan, happy Christmas! I was a big fan of Little Britain back in the day, one of my favourite sketches was the guy who ran the Scottish hotel, shame that character only lasted for one series!

@UranusMcVitieFish-yd7oq I that's right they had some great characters &some not so good but it was worth a watch I did watch a few episodes recently but I can't remember what platform. I've just watched TV extras again I really enjoyed it second time around especially, with Kate Winslet, Ricky drinking the fizzy water,knee in g Warwick Davis in the head,Steve merchant the inept agent with Barry that pen sceen , are you having a laugh, is he having a laugh, he's having a laugh.
If you like Little Britain you should watch The League of Gentleman. Dark British humour at it's best and I think Lucas and Walliams ripped it off a bit.
It was basically cancelled because too many of their sketches involved yellow or black facing and mocking minorities that led to racist bullying of kids in schools. Even the creators apologised for the show and admitted they were ignorant not to realise they many of their sketches were racist and targeted minorities, which wasn’t right for two white comedians to do. BBC and HBO erase the shows from their archives due to the racism. It was at a weird time in the UK media where it basically became less diverse and racism towards minorities in mainstream comedy shows was accepted because it was deemed ‘post modern’ ironic racism.
@@Delboy0 There was nothing racist in little Britain at all, it was just funny. People of all races watched it. It's attacked because it's British humour and everything British gets attacked due to the real racism. If people don't like it then they can go somewhere else. They don't get to come here and demand we change for them. You are pathetic, you used the words racist/ racism 5 times in your comment which is ridiculous. You obviously know what you say isn't true otherwise you wouldn't repeat it so much. And saying too many black and yellow face sketches? I remember ONE Chinese character but don't remember any blackface ...like it even matters, people like you need to stop acting like black people are more important than everyone else. We are supposed to be equal but people like you rank people on their race. You are what you accuse others of.
Sad how humour now is ‘problematic’ because of trendy woke people. That will definetly be the death for British humour😢 Nothing progressive about that.
