South-west of Nevers in France, the river Allier flows into the Loire. To enable larger volumes of transportation, canals were constructed in the 19th century in major parts of France (like in other industrialized countries in Europe). Because the Canal Latéral à la Loire is located south of the Loire, this canal must cross the Allier. For this purpose a bridge containing this canal was built in 1838. A system of locks on the west side reaches a height difference of 9.5 m.
Sud-ouest de Nevers l’Allier se jette dans la Loire. Comme le Canal Latéral à la Loire se trouve sud de la Loire ce canal doit croiser l’Allier. À cet effet un pont contenant ce canal à été construite en 1838. Un système d’écluses coté ouest atteint un dénivelée de 9,5 m.
Ten zuidwesten van Nevers mondt de Allier uit in de Loire. Net als in Nederland werden in de t.b.v. de industrie kanalen gegraven, in Frankrijk vaak parallel aan rivieren die te snel stroomden om scheepvaart mogelijk te maken. Omdat het Canal Latéral à la Loire ten zuiden van de Loire ligt, moet dit kanaal de Allier "oversteken". Voor dit doel werd in 1838 een brug over de rivier gebouwd die het kanaal draagt. Een sluizenstelsel aan de westzijde overbrugt een hoogteverschil van 9,5 meter.
