CANCEL CULTURE | the rise of "call out culture" with Fully Raw Kristina and Cash

I sit down with Fully Raw Kristina and Cash to discuss the social phenomenon and rise of cancel culture. Sometimes more accurately described as “call out culture,” it collectively attempts to harm the reputation, social presence, and sometimes even livelihood for violating a particular ideological standard.
At this point in her career, Fully Raw Kristina has been “called-out” more times than one can count. In this episode she shares her personal stories, how she handles the mob rule, where she came from, and where she is today. Cash, her boyfriend, brings insight into many of the specific events Kristina has gone through and his support for her. Together we unpack, dissect and reflect on what cancel culture means for our society, it’s consequences, and how we can move forward.
This episode covers
- Kristina and Cash’s relationship story
- Their life in Hawaii, garden goals and plans
- Dissecting cancel culture and what encourages social media mob rule
- Self censorship and the current political environment online
- The times Kristina has been “called out” throughout her online career
- The Veg News fiasco
- social media during the George Floyd protests
- Self acceptance: It isn’t your job to make everyone like you
- How you’ll never be criticized by someone who is doing more than you
- Hate videos/comments vs constructive criticism
- The watering down of important labels
- living in an echo chamber: the consequences of labeling everyone who disagrees with you as morally repugnant
- If ill intent versus being well intentioned changes anything
- And moreeee.

@@SuiGenerisAbbie I think it’s important to know that each individual person is entitled to their privacy and you can see Kristina visibly standing her ground to cash once when he was talking like she wasn’t there. You can see it’s not perfect. No relationship is. She shares so much of her life publicly and she is aloud to have privacy. Who are you or anyone myself included to demand to know something so delicate? If it was something she wanted to share she would. And maybe she will in time. He has spoken his peace about it and his side ish.. but they both are humans and they both have the right to not address their private lives

@@SuiGenerisAbbie I think they have love but need different things. He seemed to miss his culture and his people. If you know the Kauai experience...it's pretty rural... I’ve followed Kristina almost since the beginning of her channel. This was long before I went vegan. She’s always seemed like such a genuine and kind person. I’ve never heard her speak negatively of anyone. I loved this more in depth conversation with her and Cash. What wonderful people.

I have been following Kristina for about five years now and I have to admit her content lately has not felt all that authentic to me. However after having listened to this, it makes sense that a person would become more publicly guarded and self protective as they age and get "canceled" by people who know nothing about them. This podcast format, to me as a long time watcher, felt so pure and honest and reminded me why I do appreciate that she shares any part of herself online at all. I'm going to adjust my expectations going forward and remember to appreciate rather than expect. Much love for this fantastic conversation!

Thank you Ellen for having Kristina and Cash on your podcast. Ill be honest, when I saw the VegNews post about Kristina, my heart was saddened. I didn't look more into the claims or even into the story, I am a busy mom and didn't take the time I should have. I appreciate you giving them a platform to tell their story and a safe place to share thought and advice. I have a newfound respect for Kristina and I am thankful for you all! Love to you!

I really enjoyed listening/watching this Podcast. At 65 years old I can confirm it is not a new thing to be cancel cultured it was definitely going on in my youth however where my heart goes out for you all is that it is made so public now I honestly don't know how such tender hearts and minds can cope with the vindictiveness. My Mother always told me to never judge anyone's actions or words until I had walked a mile in their shoes it took me many years to understand what she meant but she was right and I that's how I try and live my life now. The one I taught my own children was 'Bitterness is a poison you drink yourself and wait for the other person to die' I have found this one so true in my life as well. Ellen, Kristina & Cash thank you for the Podcast I wish you all much love, light, joy and happiness in your lives. 😘X

14:30 sounds a little crazy for me.. Kristina asking him three times to date her and he refuses giving her conditions, situations they have to deal with before dating while being always in contact just not dating? Would not be better to deal with everything with a support of the SO? And Ellen being amazed by this? Hm... Having listened this with knowing they did break up..

min 37 ish they were about to get into black lives matter all kinds of stuff and i do think it is so important and relevant to cancel culture and i feel like that whole conversation was kind of cancelled and put back on a tiny focus of one person and how they feel yes also valid but not nearly as expansive and also u could feel the re direction it was awkward and also sad ~ the trauma behind what cash is saying really was put aside and could have been so much more gently handled ~

BLM is part of the problem. It’s a money-making scam with the added baggage of pushing Marxism (it’s openly admitted as such in their stated objectives) and pushing racial division. Proportionally, there are far more incidents of black on black violence than white on black in the US. Police are more likely to use lethal force against white citizens than black. But that doesn’t go along with BLM’s narrative, so the data is buried and people who point it out are marginalised as racists. It’s lunacy. And where are all the millions of dollars that BLM accumulated? Are they helping fund better education or local infrastructure in impoverished communities? Nope, it’s been used to grow the property portfolios of the organisation’s leaders. It’s a pyramid scheme.

Vegan and non-vegan friends, the 'cancel' or 'call-out' culture concept is against all spiritual principles. Criticizing others who are trying to share good things not only hurts them but hurts the sender of such criticisms. There is a disconnect between the critic and love. Hatred is begotten of separation. Hatred is short-circuited love. Learn to applaud what you like about people, their lifestyles and ideas and build bridges instead of being a critic. All can grow in love as one family.

I don't have time to see this today, but I admit something prompted me to find out how Kristina's personal life is going. I have good memories of her Inner Circle and hope there will be more things like that for all vegans. Here I started protecting my privacy more. I was surprised that some have been so mean about her personal life, both some vegans and nonvegans. I personally hoped that things would work out for her and all her pursuits of happiness. I hope she does not let anything make her give up on her personal pursuits of happiness. I guess it's true, he actually stopped being vegan and left her. I don't want to think badly of anyone but ai sure hope she wasn't a victim of narcissism. It's really hard to find a man who's not a delinquent and hopefully not even worse a narcissist. I found out that multiple men I my life were actually narcissists. I think I first learned about it last year and it helped me tremendously as I learned there can be different sorts of narcissists. Some are boyfriends and some get married. It starts out well, then waves of love bombing and misbehavior start. When the narcissist has met his goal, then there's some sort of reveal. I actually couldn't believe the husband I lost's reveal when he said for 10 years, he'd just been pretending to be nice. Cash seemed super nice to Kristina and helped her evaluate a lot of friendships. Then, they either give up on a goal, or have sort of a finale of the real narcissist before people have to break up or worse. Sometimes it can be to wait 10 years to gamble on getting social security if they out live the woman. Here, I don't get it but feel suspicious as why stop being vegan after so much time and what seemed seemed like sincerity and finally the respect she deserved? I think everyone out to stick up for anyone like Kristina who obviously faced yet another senseless injustice, this time leaving her alone maintaining an entire vegan farm on her own. That's just really lowdown. Women aren't toys to play with, have pets with and then discard. Some major fundamentals are missing on ethics here. I refuse to listen to the smearing against her as it looks like some mean people are simply instigating against her. I don't have enough income to afford her class now and it looks like aside from being a nice polite person lots didn't like me that much so I figured to wish them well, and I'll see what works out in the future for vegan interaction. One day, I may be able to afford the Inner Circle or a retreat, and I'll think of the upside of things. I've been studying about relationships and won't give up on making new acquaintances and finding new personal friends that work. I hope she had good friends and/or counseling to advise her well, too. There's lots of good solutions nowadays so time will tell how nice people make the most of things.

Ironic, a few days later he abandons the woman and the lifestyle. He must have been miserable. They looked like an instagram couple but not like a genuinly happy couple. Can’t imagine the way she must feel abandoned in Hawaii and far from family. She should have kept her private intimate life off camera and not mix a man with her brand.

Ya, but did u hear how he supported her passion? I'm really wondering was he legit in the beginning...I'm feeling so bad for her now.....he knew what he was getting into so I'm wondering why the sudden bail out. Maybe his intentions were true though and he ended up just not being able to handle it. He said..shecwas thinking I didn't want her...whoa...she was feeling the vibe....he didn't want her and she knew it.....omg...I think he wasn't ready for more than friendship......damn......I'm so sorry for them both.

@@pohanahawaii You’re right about that. We all try with best hopes and intentions and sometimes we fail at relationships, learn lessons. I’m just happy (for her) she isn’t addressing his drama and the breakup in any way, keeping her private life to herself, as she should be. He didn’t deserve her one bit judging by the maturity level of how he exited. But I don’t agree with your “they were just dating” - just dating is when you go on dates and try someone out. Not when you move in to live together, let alone move together to a whole new country to start a new home there.

I maintain that you never know what people are really like until you're stuck with them 24/7 for a long period of time (like recent COVID lockdown.) And after some personal experiences, I think for relationships to happily last, it seems you have to share the same core values, life goals, and financial outlook as well. Otherwise, it'll just be too much arguments, silent resentment, or passive aggressive words/behavior.

I'm very much on the fence about things like this because I live on an island slightly similar to Hawaii, being overrun but by statesiders at a very fast rate and very little of them care for the people and the culture, its hard not to want to cancel them when you see your home disappearing.

It pretty much shows how people really feel. In public they always comply but when they know they cannot be caught due to anonymity they can finally release their rage. In some sense it's better though they do this online than in real life. However, it is deeply disturbing that people have so much frustration inside of them. That tells a lot about the fragile state of society that only works because people are scared of doing such things in public. Fear is the easiest tool to govern after all ...

Listening to this I had a lightbulb moment... Bruno from the new Encanto movie is totally a perfect example of cancel culture! I have a disdain for cancel culture because it removes respecting others from the equation and usually never takes intent into consideration. It’s like the gossip circle gone crazy and affecting others livelihoods. Bruno went into hiding from it and so do many people, sometimes for emotional protection other times for their physical safety. It’s horrible to push people to that point. Instead we should have open dialogue on both sides to help people learn and grow past these things and get the accurate info out there more.

Something really resonated with me that Kristina said. Shem said something along the lines of every possible thing that could have been perceived as wrong were used against her and it made me think how common that hat occurs but we fairly seem to collect all of the good or positivity that someone has done/shares. I think a lot of growth could happen and a good impact could be achieved if we all strives to collect the good of people. Of course there are circumstances when the bad of someone’s actions will truly out weight anyway good and they will be deserving of just consequences but as a general rule let’s not collect the 10% bad of 100% of someone’s overall life…There’s still that 90% good! Let’s try to focus on that. Besides like you said just having a different opinion doesn’t even make someone wrong it’s just makes them different.
