Just came back from Cabo!!! Can’t compare both places, really love both different points of interest BTW I stayed in Hard Rock Cabo and Hard rock Cancún
Love both. Cancun has the best beaches in Mexico, but Carbo is so unique with the sea by the desert. You can also take a day trip to La Paz when in Cabo, another super amazing town which is less travelled.
I went to Cancun long time ago when I was a kid, and to Cabo last year just before the pandemic. While I can't remember a lot about Cancun, I'd say it really depends on what you are looking for, because they are both REALLY different from one another. Cabo is more like a Tuscan or Mediterranean vibe, like something between California, Italy and Mexico, with the surrounding deserts, mountains and rock formations creating amazing landscapes that really give you that charming mediterranean vibes. It's all about gorgeous food, good local wine, amazing seafood and very romantic beaches to discover in the surroundings, riding horses or camels with no buildings or resorts around, not even civilization, just miles and miles of deserts and the coast. Cancun in the other hand is that classic Caribbean paradise feeling, with white sands, turquoise water, palm trees, lagoons and a humid and tropical weather the whole year round. More for party and nightlife I'd say, tons of archeological sites and jungles to explore, amazing cenotes and beautiful coral reefs to enjoy scuba diving. Also, very authentic and unique colonial towns and cities to have a pure Mexican experiencie just a couple of hours away. I think Cabo is for a more romantic or "intimate" experience, and Cancun is more for party, celebration and fun. So, depends on what you are looking for.
Cabo and Cancuns downtowns are pretty much the same. They have the same clubs and bars too like Senor Frogs and Monkey bar. And both of them have intimate areas too is you drive half an hour away. It's like a brother and sister. You can't really go wrong with either. I'd say go to the one that's closest to where you live so you have a shorter flight.
Way 100 Cabo.. you also have white sandy beaches with amazing rock formations.. dorget tulum it is overpriced and over rated. You can alao take a shuttle to Todos Santos, La Paz, Cabo Pulmo and east cape. And waaay much better food in baja. The beaches in rivera maya are filled with trash and stinky seaweed.
We are going to Cancun in December for an adult trip and doing Cabo for spring break 2022 with the family! I have spent the last month researching every night and chose both those locations over other Caribbean destinations. Watching this video confirmed my decisions even more! Thank you!
Thank you for a fantastic comparison video ! That huge stretch of gorgeous turquoise ocean and powder soft sand in Cancun's hotel zoon looks so tantalizing to me AND as I adore body surfing, the waves look perfect - large but not too huge - and it appears to have a gradual slope vs a drop off. Having said that, I love the desert ruggedness of Cabo and those rock formations are stunners. Question for you and your subscribers please: Which resort in Cancun offers an all-inclusive experience (those in-room bottle dispensers have me intrigued LOL !) but are geared toward a middle-age relaxed crowd ? And, which resort in Cabo has a swimmable beach smack dab in front of it ? Thank you so much and I can't wait to continue to arm-chair travel with your video's !!! Cheers ! m.
Thanks Vanessa, I always look forward to your videos. I have been to cancun and loved it, I live in the UK. Will love to visit los cabos sometime soon. We want to also go back to Cancun!!!!
Unswimmable beaches in Cabo? So I've swam in almost area in the bay area of Cabo. Hotel Beach side up to the Marina, all along cove near lovers beach and past that. Done several beaches between Cabo and San Jose del Cabo. Water warm, clear, amazingly visible 60-100 ft out. I followed a pufferfish for 10 minutes and the trick is to attract fish... tortillas, peas. Imagine hundreds of fish swimming next to you in circles as you hand feed them in crystal clear warm water. I haven't been to Cancun, and would love to visit, Cabo though is amazIng.
I used to think no swimmable beach would be a dealbreaker. But after staying at the Grand Velas in Los Cabos, I was sold. The infinity pools overlooking the ocean are gorgeous
@@therealtoismith Yes. You have the option to pay extra to make your experience All Inclusive. I really, really recommend that hotel, it's a beautiful property.
@@daCROWNtaker Cabo’s waves are aggressive and known for undertow. Cancun has calm waters on the shores and white sand. I’ve only been to Cancun so can’t comment too much on Cabo.
We placed the ultimate vote after visiting both and moved to San Jose del Cabo where we have now been for 5 years. The very dry air and comfortable temperatures in the winter months was the big factor
Going back to Cabo for the 4th time next year. Of all the places I've been to around the Carribean and Mexico etc. Cabo is the only place that keeps bringing me back.
Playa del Carmen is about 40min bus ride from Cancun do yourself a fav and go there instead..Cancun is just 1 big hotel zone, you will get bored after day 2
You definitely did not spend your time wisely in Cancun because my family and I were just there for spring break and there was so much to do at our resort we could no do all of it in just the week that we were there. I’ve been to Cabo and it’s just desert, the hotels and the marina which is nice but Cancun has way more stuff to do.
Funny thing is I live in California and have only been to Cabo 1 time even though a direct flight - but to Cancun 4xs which takes most of the day to get to. I love the humidity, the turquoise waters, Isla Mujeres, and variety of resort options in different areas of the Cancun. Good comparison although I think Cancun beaches win!! 😊
Nikki B I live in California as well and been to Cancun 3x, however I haven't been to Cabo which is closer. I do want to go to Cabo but I'm so in love with the beaches in Cancun and Isle Mujeres Gorgeous!😁😂🏊🏽♀️
Been to Cabo once and Cancun 4 times. Since I live in San Diego I fly out of Tijuana which is served by the cross border express, which takes you straight from San Diego to inside Tijuana airport, cost of flights are way way cheaper than flights out of San Diego, so saying this I like to go to Cancun, better beaches.
I rented and went down the Riviera Maya!! I went on a mini exploring adventure . There is so much see the pyraminds of tulum, Playa de Carmen, which you can take a ferry and go to Cozumel. Cancun hands down if you are adventure and love the ocean. I could see Cabo being nice as well but if I could only take one vacation it a year it would be Cancun.
I have been going to Cabo every year for 30 years. I have been to Cancun twice. The scuba diving in Cancun is much better than Cabo, with much clear water and beautiful hard coral reefs. Diving the inland Cenotes is absolutely amazing. Cabo has no hard coral, just soft fan coral. The Sea of Cortez causes the water in Cabo to have less transparency. The dining in Cabo is first-rate due to importing chefs from around the world....but you pay dearly for this. I agree, the resorts in Cabo are much newer than Cancun and the quality is top-notch. Cabo is much less humid than Cancun. A chilled Corona with lime is enjoyable in either location.
Yes!!! We just went to sunset Mona Lisa for our anniversary about 2 months ago! All I have to say is AMAZING the food the view the atmosphere the service is all amazing! And the price is really not bad at all!
Going to Cabo in May with my S/O. I’m excited but I will say I was debating between Cabo and Cancun. Needless to say I hope to visit both locations. Thank you for the information!
Been to both Cabo and Cancun. Enjoyed both. The nightlife in Cabo was good, definitely packed but not over packed like cancun. Cancun better beaches,Cabo better/bigger pools. Hard to decide on which is better.
I know its a hard choice, but if you had a gun a to your head, which one would you choose? Also does airfare and flight time factor into your decision?
I just did a two week vacation with one week in Cabo and one week in Tulum. It’s so different. One was ocean view and the other was jungle view. Tulum is beautiful but they will hustle you. No Uber and taxi charges like $20 usd for less than 8 miles. Get a bike or scooter or rental car on the strip. (Tulum beach)
exactly what dizzle said, with minimal swimmable beaches in Cabo, vs Cancun and their coral sand never burn your feet beaches, and the float in the Caribbean waters....easy choice for me....have been to both, am returning to Cancun in January!!
Great video and excellent comparisons! You have a new subscriber! We are releasing a video on Cancun on our travel channel here very soon from our time in Mexico and Belize....thank you for the great info and quality video! Awesome!
If you want to see cetaceans like the humpback, blue, or killer whales, or if you're a intermediate to advanced surfer, visit Cabo. If not, Cancun is a better option. Much more activities, prettier, swimmable beaches, snorkeling adventures (you can swim with the whale shark), and in general, it's more fun (not just the nightlife, the natural and archaeological adventures, but the parks like Xcaret, Xel-Ha, and Xplor).
Another great video Vanessa! Thank you much for providing great information. We are actually thinking about a trip to LeBlanc in Cabo based on your other videos. Is there entertainment at night? We are typically cruisers but given the extended pause, are branching out to all-inclusives.
Hi Steve, thanks so much! LeBlanc is great for luxury and pampering, especially for an all-inclusive, but nightlife isn’t a big part of the resort as downtown Cancun is just 15 minutes away. They emphasize relaxation and romance so if you prefer a more active nightlife, it might not be the best option for you. Hope this helps!
I have spent time in both locations. I love swimming in the Ocean and correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that the water temperatures in Cancun are much warmer, therefore more enjoyable.
Great video. One thing you did not really stress is the weather which for most people can easily make or break a great time. Cancun is hot and humid. Cabo is generally much nicer temperature. Cancun has 53 inches of rain a year where Cabo has 7. So that means seven or more times more likely to get rained out in Cancun. Cancun has hurricane season where Cabo has virtually no chance of a hurricane. Cancun has up to six months a year of seaweed season, sargassum is nasty to swim in and smells bad. Cabo does not have that problem. That said, I would choose Cancun if you don't mind weather and smelly seaweed or you can pick that sweet-spot weather time between hot humidity and hurricane season.
Nice video although in the 1960s these destinations were primarily fishing villages and not until the 1970s when the Mexican government invested And opened up Cabo and Cancun did they begin to take off to tourism. You have great points of comparison especially the location, obviously from the west coast it’s Cabo and East coast and southeast, Cancun would be a shorter distance. It’s a hard decision, I mean do people want to swim in cenotes and visit Mayan ruins in Cancun or would they rather go whale watching and world class fishing in Cabo. In my opinion these two destinations are top 5 in all of the Americas (North, Central, South).
Never been to Cabo and I'm not sure why it doesn't win me over. In Cancun you have access to waterparks, snorkeling, islands, cenotes, pyramids, night life, Tulum, PDC, and Valladolid.
Cabo is better. It’s a 4 hour direct flight from my city and Cancun is about 6 hours after a connector flight. Easy choice. Also we were ripped off on a snorkling excursion in Cancun so that left a bad taste. I also prefer the desert surroundings of Cabo.
Thank you. I think you described the differences quite well. Cancun is more commercialized and feels more crowded, definitely livelier. But I prefer Cabo. I love the vibe, the resorts along Medano Beach, contrasted to a small town, easy to walk, with some great open air restaurants (Edith's, Peacock's, the restaurants around the marina, and I've never had a bad time at the Office on the beach). Cabo San Lucas has much more to offer (highly recommend the Caborey sunset dinner cruise). But there are also plenty of "party" spots (Mango Deck), and Happy Ending Cantina is without question the best bar in the world! I especially like the contrast between being IN TOWN along Medano Beach and the Sea of Cortez, and "the QUIET SIDE" across the mountain on the Pacific side and (as you mention), San Jose del Cabo. Great video. More, more, more please.
Both have they're pros & cons in regards to what you are looking for? My wife and I travel (6) times a yr to Mexico....we split it up (3) trips to Cancun & (3) to Cabo. Our first priority is adults only resorts, then we choose a resort where you don't have kids...i.e...20 yrs olds! So if we have to pay more to us...its worth it! 👊 If we go to Cancun, we tend to go to the topless optional resorts, if not, Cabo is ideal. Eitherway we have fun in both destinations! But we have fun in Europe as well, as we average about 16 international trips a year. 👊respect👊
Cabos all the way, La Paz also has amazing beaches like The Island of Espirito Santos that from what I seen better and extremely clear compared to Cancun beaches
@@Turtlemilk yeah thanks to the idiots in the north that won't stop buying drugs!! No customers no business!!! Gotta remember that the US the #1 consumer of drugs in the world!! And on the top of that corrupt powerful people in the US some of them in the government helping cartels smuggling the drugs and giving cartels the most sophisticated guns!! The good people of México witch is the vast majority of them have a very complicated situation!! Btw you gotta be stupid if you think all México is only drugs and cartels!! Such an ignorant assumption!!
Those saying that Cabo is better clearly haven’t been around Cancun and it’s areas don’t get me wrong Cabo is beautiful but there is no place like Cancun and it’s surrounding places
Well, I gotta say that nightlife in Cabo San Lucas is really good and there are many places to have a good time and a lot of fun and on the other hand, San Jose del Cabo is more like the video says, it’s more familiar.
I went to a resort in manzinillo Mexico in 1986. I think it was an old club med. wondering if was still there. Was a big place. It had regular rooms and condos.
Going to Cancun in November, have a trip to Loreto for next year, and I have a free trip to choose between another cancun hotel or Cabo. I'm really thinking about Cabo since I'm already going to Cancun and I want to get like the different spots.
Easy. Both are great places. Have kids? Go to cancun because there are more to do activities. Cabo is more for adults, although, both have family friendly resorts.
In have only been to Cancun. It is beautiful there but a relaxing family vacation it was not. It feels like you get hassled by every merchant, restauranteur, and street vendor as you walk by. There are multitudes of rifle carrying police and security guards everywhere and I was always keeping an eye on my family members. It came to the point that just staying at the resort was most relaxing which was a shame because part of the joy of traveling is taking in the experience of the local people and culture. Cancun was far more expensive than I thought.
I’m looking for a very relaxing vacation. I have kids from 20-7 years old and I’d like some activities for all. But sitting by a pool with an ocean view, playing in the water with my youngest, then walk along the beaches in the evening is all I need. I’d like the older kids to have fun...but not too much so I spend my time worrying about them being safe. Cabo looked kind of like Italy, which I like and I liked the authentic cuisine you mentioned but not the messing with renting a car.
Been to both, Mexican food in Cabo is hands down better, water and beaches are way better in Cancun. Transportation is really easy in the Hotel zone in Cancun, buses run up and down the strip just like shuttle buses and they are dirt cheap. As far as activities both have great options. Xcaret is one of the coolest places you can go near Cancun. Playa Del Carmen is also very close to Cancun in addition you can take a ferry over to Cozumel from there.
Thanks for this video.. I've never been to neither but I wanted the beachy feel.. and this video helped me to decide to go to Cancun first... although Cabo is closer to California. I'll be traveling with my 14-year old teen-age son and we will be on Spring Break? Unless, someone thinks CABO will be better? Looking for activities and the beaches and of course a family feel. Thanks!
there's just something about Cabo. You'd think that when you hear the words "unswimmable beaches" it would be a deal breaker. But as Sammy Hagar said, "go there once, you'll be there twice". So...Cancun for the beach and Cabo for everything else. The dry climate in Cabo is one of the big features for my wife and I.
I have been to both. Cancun wins in every aspect. The amount of cocaine on the Cabo beaches is unbelievable. I literally saw 30 pounds over my course of 7 days there. You can’t enjoy any time on the beach without pesky sales people where as Cancun is nice and quiet. After 5 times in Cabo and 12 times in Cancun take my word… Cancun all day!!!
Cancun by a mile, right after 9/11 the prices dropped by half! To many vendors, I remember getting out of a sales pitch without being rude, the fellow said “ oh we have a little visitor” , I look down at my feet and I saw the biggest scorpion, ended up throwing out that pair of shorts!
So we went to riu palace peninsula in Cancun last dec, and the resort was beautiful ! It was huge! The first 2 days the water was blue and clear, then our last 8 days it’s rained hard everyday and it just turned out to be a disaster. So we tried Cabo a few months ago and stayed at the Riu palace, which was also a gigantic resort! We went during the pandemic so things were alittle different but the weather was much nicer! I know why you did this video because everyone is either going to Cancun or Cabo right now just to get away!
@@Passport_Pages thank you for all your vacation videos, I honestly come to your page anytime we are planning a vacation! Thanks for all the great tips! Have a great Sunday !
If you're going off beaches and water it's not even close Cancun by a mile. I definitely don't remember white sand in Cabo lol. For sure white sand in cancun also clearer water and much warmer. Cabo does win in regards to it's drier ie not so much humidity but it's still crazy warm. Also right in the heart of cabo the waves are pretty strong and jelly fish from time to time yaaaa
I've been to both recently.....And while I'll say that I enjoyed the resorts in Cancun more, I enjoy Cabo more as a destination. So if I just want to get way and do nothing for 4-5 Days.......Cancun. If I want to spend more time and do some adventures....Cabo.
@@djaztec97 It's all in how you make of it....Going solo has it's ups and downs......But if you're open to being social and meeting people you'll always find friends....Once people realize you're going solo, they'll talk with you.... It's just the option of how social you want to be or not...Because I think you'll be fine either way
Do nothing ???? Wtf trust me there are more activity’s in Cancun than in Cabo’s all I hear about Cabo’s is the pools and beaches that’s it that’s a boring ass vacation I could of done that in galaveston
Agree that it's totally about preference. I detest humidity, so definitely Cabo. San Jose del Cabo is a possible retirement spot for this guy!! Disagree with the comments about non-swimmable beaches
Well... that is kind of true (About non-swimmable beaches) Most of the beaches around here are either too dangerous because they are close to "Open ocean", because "Dangerous animals" or "Dangerous beach environment" (because of the rocks or weather), Or mostly because the hotels and resorts tend to believe that just because they're close=in front of the sea they can claim all that extension theirs and do not let people go in.
Obviously you can find a good and nice looking beach if you try hard enough, for example not exclusively inside Cabo. I do not know if things have changed from the last time I went to the beach but I only remember 2 or 3 that are open to us (the public). And all people go to them... so.... they are fill up at their max at times, it is not really comfortable.
