Well, Thomas Sowell is right- they got it from whitey. It is a variation of Ulster Protestant in America Appalachian culture. It is black hickabilly culture, basically. Just because it's in the inner city ghettos and not the trailer parks, doesn't mean it didn't come from Appalachia. Yeah, a lot of metal and rock, though some cuss (which I don't mind) usually have relatable messages. Most of the ones I've listened to, and still listen to, aren't promoting murder, SA, drugs, and all that other crap. Long ago, a friend of mine mistakenly thought Slipknot was stupid because they cussed, but then she actually listened to the lyrics and realized there was a lot of meaning there and that these guys weren't stupid.

Where I differ from other leftists is that I don't attribute every problem black people expereinces to "white supremacy". Culture plays a role too and hood culture is absolutely poisonous to black people. There are things black people can do to deal with some if their problems so they don't have to wait around for white people to tear down "white supremacy". I work with a young, early 20s, black woman who is sweet, fragile and obviously had abuse in her past (and maybe present, who knows). We work in hospitality and she came from a pretty low brow restaurant to ours which is upscale casual in an affluent area. She didn't finish high school. She's very insecure. But she's not unintelligent at all, she just has no belief in herself. At all. It's heartbreaking. I was paying out a table that had an amex platinum card and she commented that she wished she could have one. I replied you can, you just need to apply for one of their intro cards, use it wisely, pay it off, and if you spend enough money a year and pay it (as there's a threshold you have to meet) they will invite you to apply for a platinum card. She immediately replied "oh I'll never get one then." And I was a little stunned and said why? She said I spend all the money I get. To which I told her that she works at a restaurant were she'll be able to make enough to save and invest. She said "it doesn't matter how much I make, I spend it, it's a Hood thing. I don't want to talk about it." So of course I kept pressing and said why would you make purposefully destructive choices for yourself, your future, your possible kids by immediately rejecting any notion of responsibility for your financial actions? "It's just what we do. It's the Hood thing." You can be from the Hood, and not BE of the Hood. "I know. I don't want to talk about it." I'm stubborn about people who clearly are their own enemy and I told her, very kindly and with a lot of compassion, that her success or lack thereof is entirely in her power, and she'll have no one to blame if she's always paycheck to paycheck. She works someplace that if she does well she will make a good living and meet people that can open opportunities for her. She probably thinks that because I'm not her color I don't understand. She doesn't know I was homeless for a decade. She doesn't know I've had to beg for money and steal food. Or that I've worked up to making close to 6 figures. But because I understand all of that and the work and pain that goes into it, it hurts when I see people dig their grave and pile the dirt on top of their own selves.

I think it is because nobody likes to see the harm done to a community by a group of misguided, ill informed, bitter individuals. They talk about this rap as being so important to and for black culture, when all they need to do is look to the past at all the incredible people they could have as role models. They need to understand that all modern music has its roots firmly planted in Black history that is the culture they should look to. Also rap isn’t that new Cab Calloway was scating back in the thirties and talking over a beat goes even further back. But the rap I remember and enjoyed is a product of the eighties and it bears no resemblance to the violence of modern rap. You certainly wouldn’t of heard a nine year old boy saying the things that this young man says. These young people need to look to their elders and relearn what respect means.

I’m a BW and a huge fan of Candace. She’s spot on about this trash culture 40+ yrs in the making.

I haven't listened to that little 6 year old "rapping" about shit I know would make my jaw drop, but I looked it up on TikTok and so many people supported it, but I did see one comment near the top that said, "Cocofelon". Also, the number of little Black girls and boys I've seen on my TikTok with, thankfully, no views, of the girls twerking and the little 7 year olds throwing up gang signs is INSANE.

Leon…. I agree with you. But I think it won’t get the market recognition in the black culture that it deserves.

man I grew up in a small ghetto town in ohio and live in a ghetto side of vegas, now. As I teen I was taken in by my grandparents in the suburbs I didn't fit in for shit and I remember kids saying I wanna get out of this town when I lived in Ohio then in the suburbs kids acted hard when I pulled up on my ghetto side they piped down real quick and I'm white AF but southern. Goes to show kids and parents are writing checks their mouths can't cash but the ass beatings will.

Black role models who don't allow their skin color to be an excuse, even though they focus on their own communtities, still have a positive impact on everybody. I'm not the same color as Denzel Washington but I still look up to the guy and respect his message. This woke washing has made it difficult to cross the skin barrier, I bet it makes people paranoid to even talk to the other guy.

I just going to tell you, it's going to get worse. I'm in my 50s and seen stupid crap since I was a kid. I stopped caring a long time ago. I have other stuff to worry about.
