Biofilms: Understanding Their Role in Candida Overgrowth
Biofilm formation is a critical aspect in the treatment of candida infections. But what exactly are candida biofilms, and when should we suspect they're playing a role? Let's delve into this topic now!
Biofilms are structured microbial communities encased in a matrix of extracellular material. They play a significant role in human microbial infections, particularly in medical settings. Candida, a type of fungal overgrowth, commonly forms biofilms on medical devices like catheters and ventilators, leading to serious infections. But even beyond the hospital setting Candida biofilms can lead to treatment resistance and lack of improvements when treating this common overgrowth in the gut.
When candida forms biofilms, it becomes resistant to treatment, making standard therapies far less effective. This resistance poses a challenge in managing candida infections, requiring a more direct approach.
Recognising the signs of biofilm formation is crucial. If frontline therapies fail to show improvement, or lab values indicate extreme candida infection, suspecting biofilm presence is warranted. Additionally, persistent symptoms despite multiple rounds of antifungal treatments may indicate biofilm formation.
Treatment of candida biofilms can take a range of different approaches. Herbal medicines, such as clove, thyme, and oregano, have shown promise in disrupting biofilms. Fatty acids like undecylenic acid can inhibit biofilm formation and finally systemic enzymes, like serrapeptase, aid in breaking down candida biofilms.
For stubborn cases, advanced interventions like bismuth compounds may be necessary. However, these potent treatments should be approached with caution and under the guidance of a skilled practitioner.
The key to combating candida biofilms lies in a comprehensive treatment plan that includes antifungal agents alongside biofilm disruptors. Biofilms play a critical role in candida infections, complicating treatment and necessitating targeted interventions.

I am a nutritionist from the Philippines and sharing with you too that candida gets its nourishment from simple sugars instantly and carbs. It is very important that we don’t feed the candida. I’m not a fan of keto diet, but keto diet and paleo diet work best for candida infections. It maintains your optimum nutritional status yet depriving the candida from growing and multiplying. Fasting can also work in this case.

Hello, thank you for sharing that information - how long would it take candid to die off without simple sugars?

Thank you!! I've been trying to get my head around it all. If you have a moment? (Wildly♡, Philippines is where I've been eyeing for my first flight since Covid. and. Everyone close to me knows in a parallel world I'd be a nutritionist♡♥︎) ... Gathering that dairy being banished is less about feeding the candida and more about preventing lactose agitation affecting healing?(sneaking in some feta and cottage cheese for the good armies)So I started wondering if gluten was the same? Have been introducing yeast free versions like a pizza base / pasta if it's cooled and reheated to get more of the sugars into starches, atleast? RE: fasting. I also read from a trusted source that autophagy can feed them?? 🤔 'They' really don't help us fix this. Being told you can eat spinach leaves (no bone broth and grassfed meats as a vegetarian) for months straight is not helpful or attainable, perpetuating the frustration.

Quercetin shows some research in disrupting quorum sensing in Candida Albicans, and it's involved with zinc metabolism. Quercetin is an Ionophore. Ionophores are fat-soluble molecules that bind to ions to help move them across cell membranes. Without the right ionophore, elemental zinc is poorly absorbed and will remain stuck in the bloodstream where it cannot be used by the body’s cells. Zinc plays a role in the immune's system's ability to fight infections. Just a thought!

Hello! I have been fighting "acne" for about a year and have red bumps randomly all over my body from scratches/acne blemishes/etc. that have never been able to go away. I have tried everything under the sun to treat it and the other day I tried an antifungal cream because why not? and omg the instant reaction my skin had was insane. After that, I fell down the rabbit hole on fungal overgrowth and there so many more health issues that I have been dealing with (EXTREME fatigue, dry skin build up, tangled hair) that all of a sudden made sense. Thank you so much for this video, I'm hoping I'm finally on my way to better health.

So happy to find you Byron and this video! I have suffered 30+ years with chronic candida issues. I have tried 3 months of anti fungal medicine which helped for a while but it always seems to rear it's ugly head :( Most recently I am going through perimenopause and functional doctor suggested Myo inositol and it worked great for about two weeks than I had major candida flare up which I didn't find too many people have happening, but it is a sugar which obviously I am sensitive and hyper triggers candida. Now I am back to trying to get rid of it again. Definitely after watching this video, I feel I need to break the candida biofilm! Thank you for all you do and share!
@gnosisdespirit

Myo-inositol is a type of sugar and sugar feeds candida. The Myo-inositol could have helped with some hormones initially and that's why it made you feel better at first and then the candida became opportunistic to the extra sugar in your system...just my educated guess. Are you on any pharmaceutical drugs? If so, that could be what's keeping you sick.

@@noellromatowski8387 Try taking l-carnosine or beta-alanine and L-histidine. If you're deficient in L-histidine that could potentially promote candida overgrowth because L-histidine has anti-candida action (see research below). Plus, l-carnosine gives you mitochondrial energy so that your body actually has the energy to fight against pathogens such as candida. Also, L-carnosine is anti aging - could potentially help you live 20% longer. It's worth a try. Research > www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2537934/

Love this video and your approach is exactly what I’ve been using for about 3-4 months. I would add that the patient will not get better if they are currently being exposed to mold. And I’m finding that the treatment timeline is about a year and could even be longer depending on how much prior exposure they have. I am currently seeing major improvements using 30 drops of biociden per day, undecylenic acid, interphase plus and FC cidal 3x day. My symptoms are improving but do expect another 2-3 months of treatment. If by then I’m not improving I’ll do 60 days of intraconozole or voriconozole ect. Nathan Neil recommends extending 3 months of treatment after oat test is clear due to the fungus being opportunistic. I wish you were in the US Byron:)

I have been battling a debilitating gut infection for 3 years now. Relocated for mold but I consumed 5 papaya seeds followed by raw oregano herb made into a tea. The next morning I woke with my stomach covered in blisters from things that the herbs and seeds caused to erupt / die inside of my stomach. I showed a photo to my doctor she was speechless. The belching stopped that day but came back a few days later. I’m thinking that has to be parasites.

Thank you for sharing info for those of us in the US and elsewhere who can’t work with you! I’m currently having trouble finding antimicrobials that don’t make my stomach burn. I have pretty severe gastritis on top of mold, candida, malabsorbtion and suspected SIBO. Oregano oil has been the worst but garlic and ginger also cause discomfort and don’t improve bowel movements/motility.
@subwayfacemelt4325
@subwayfacemelt4325 2 месяца назад
Have you been checked for oxalate sensitivity? Ginger is "quite high"** in oxalate, and garlic has fermentable carbohydrates that can complicate SIBO, I believe. ATM, my team believes I may have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), so I take sodium cromoglycate, Histamine Intolerance (HIT) and SIBO/SIFO, so I'm on Dr. Nirala Jacobi's "SIBO/Histamine Bi-Phasic Diet©" for those two. But oxalates? I had the urine test for it, but I can't remember my results, Doc said eat as little as possible. I'm not entirely sure why, but I suspect part of my downfall I experienced on this treatment has been mostly to do with accidentally increasing oxalate consumption. Our body produces oxalates also, if you eat too much protein, carbs, vitamin C, probably other things...Maybe ask about that? If you decide to reduce oxalate consumption, do it gradually because if you have oxalate buildup in any cells they will be damaged if the oxalate leaches out too quickly, or something like that, because they are usually calcium oxalate. Which brings me to drinking lots of water, to make sure you clear the CalOx from your kidneys before they can crystallize and form stones there. Kidney stones bad! Very, very bad!! **Ginger is actually really high in oxalate, but people typically only ingest small amounts compared to vegetables/meat/grains, so your intake from ginger should be relatively low, however it can easily add 10mg oxalate to a single meal, and if you're aiming at 50mg or less per day....that's 20% of your daily intake.

@@MKBlovesuOuch, that's a hard road you're traveling! May I suggest, treat the gut first, most or all of your symptoms might be coming from there. cut out everything that showed up as a trigger (close to impossible), or best you can, find out what triggers you most. Maybe you've got MCAS? I'm still in the woods myself, but since going full on with SIFO treatment a few days ago (2 months after starting Bi-Phasic SIBO-low histamine/oxalate) I'm noticing improvements to ALL SYMPTOMS. Still, I'm paying for it today, either from some ginger I had last night (oxalates), or I've got a bio film detaching from my duodenum (hopefully). And hopefully the pain and suffering I am experiencing now is SIFO die off. I'm taking it not-so-easy on the bio film busters I could easily get: Cysteine and Caprylic Acid 20 minutes BEFORE, and oregano leaf WITH every meal, along with Saccharomyces boulardii 500mg (a fungal probiotic), EXCEPT at dinner I replace the bio film busters with Bioglan Ultimate (20 strain bacterial{?} probiotic), 20 minutes before. Do you have websites to consult for oxalate /histamine /salicylate levels in different foods? They all seem to differ somewhat, for a lot of good and bad reasons... frustrating...

I had nausea every day , burping , d&v every 2 weeks and bloating amongst many other things . I’ve done the Candida diet and natural herbs for 4 weeks, still ongoing . I have had a terrible fungal rash on my skin for the last few days and a flu . Are these good symptoms of die off ? Can I still stop the diet at 6 weeks ? I’d really appreciate the help .

Where can we find a practitioner that can help us with this? I’m pretty sure I have biofilm - 8 years dealing with recurring yeast issues (through my early 20’s.) The issue has been impacting my mental health for a long time and now my life. I want to invest in finding someone that can help me destroy this candida biofilm im sure I have. All the doctors I’ve had only prescribe antifungals that don’t work. (In the US)

Yes! Propolis is strong! I almost never use it due to sourcing issues. It’s either extremely expensive to get the high quality clean propolis or it’s cheap and almost definitely contaminated. Sustainable sourcing is lacking too unfortunately. Otherwise a top herb

Hi Byron. Thanks for this video. It's been very helpful and confirms what I've read about it before. I've had candida since I was a child, and have made some progress upon finally starting undecylenic acid with monolaurin. Within a week I'm sure I cleared up like 70-80% of my candida, and symptoms significantly lessened. That final 20-30% however I cannot seem to get rid of, even when I've done months of kirkmans and priority one phase 2. I can tell there is still fungus on the tongue, and my armpits smell yeasty. In this video you mention that these busters are really strong, I know my issue is stubborn but wonder if its smart to keep going; its hard to find data on how long to take busters.

@ByronHerbalist I'm very impressed by the knowledge that they don't build a resistance. And I'm quite sure that it's being effective due to the extent of nausea and discomfort after drinking(now that I know what to look for). What I'm struggling with is that I really do seem to find it a stimulant? And I'd far rather sleep through this nausea &/ sleep promotes healing. But even with my full apothecary of both prescription and non prescription I cannot get any sleep whatsoever when I'm upping the oregano to lead the battle. 🤔🤔 *my country doesn't have the oil. When I made my own with flaxseed&olive oil, I was properly wired for days, still awake while neighbours are leaving for work. Is this common feedback? Do I sacrifice sleep or efficacy?
