In this video we first create a cylindrical clay form around a mold and then cut into it to create a candle luminaria. Space as an element of design is considered as well as the concept of relief sculpture. Various examples are presented.
Clay in the plastic state will not support the pattern. After I wrap the clay around the mold I wait until the clay has become leather hard before cutting the pattern. Also, once the clay is wrapped around the mold it can be soothed and shaped while still in the plastic state.
