This is a F*cking Amazing cover of this song... Slower, much darker, tons of ambience.... If you don't get what Candlemass was gunning for here, you probably should stay in the entry level section of the Rock/Metal conversation room
@@jono3774 People often compare Ghost to Blue Oyster Cult (rightly or wrongly, I personally don't see a huge similarity), so that's a possible reason. And it wouldn't be totally out of left field for them to cover it. They included a cover of It's a Sin by the Pet Shop Boys (one of their most famous songs), as well as a Leonard Cohen cover, on the deluxe edition of Prequelle, so it's not ridiculous to think they could cover Don't Fear the Reaper.
Goodness knows how many times I listen to this song in a day. This makes my day. And Robert Lowe is certainly the man! The tunes are so captivating man!
This is so orgasmic. I remember when BOC first put this song out and I loved it then. So to hear one of my fave doom bands cover it makes me giddy as a school girl.
The vocals are very impressive, however, musically the song lacks any enthusiasm & drags on, which is a real let down especially since the vocal approach is really amazing.
J.J. Decay Candlemass is a Doom Metal band, Doom music is centered around depression and sadness, it fits absolutely to this song. Blue Oyster Cult made the song, and in any case, it`s their fault.
The original is a love song. It's about love being able to transcend death. Hence the lyrics "Romeo and Juliet are together in eternity." That's why the original is more sweet with a hint of sadness. This one is more relying on the darkness surrounding death which I guess fits this genre of metal more than a love song. This is a good version of that song though don't get me wrong although it has a different artistic representation of the original. Everything about the original Blue Oyster Cult song is a masterpiece in the way that it was composed to the lyrics as well as the almighty cowbell.
I would have loved to hear johan on this honestly because of his lower vocal style. Which I feel rob lowe isn’t mimicking but is definitely doing a similar style
I wish Messiah would rejoin this band. Hell, I wish he would be in any band! I just recently got into them and I've mostly only heard the albums he's on. Hes awesome, but hasn't done much outside of candlemass.
Check out "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by THE WOUNDED, or "Raining Blood" by TORI AMOS. It takes balls and creativity to make a song your own without compromise and it often does not work out - but I see no reason to cover something if you can't make the song your own instead of just "adding some own guitar licks".
Great cover. Slower pace makes this song sound heavier and... uhh, ominous? not sure it's the right word... It suits the subject of lyrics really well. It's just... I'm so used to original version, that I somehow miss that almost cheerful feel about that song...
Check out a band called Memento Mori, which included Messiah Marcolin on vocals. They don't exist anymore, but still worth listening too since Messiah is singing in the band...
Eh, it's alright. The vocals remind me of someone from the late 80s or early 90s, but I sure as heck can't think of who. It does make me think I'd like to hear a Bauhaus version.
I'm sorry for any misunderstanding, but you came off as nothing short of traumatized."Has severely damaged those memories" is to be taken as something serious, no?
That was extremely painful. I have been a BÖC fan for 35 years and saw them twice a couple of weeks ago. Both nights they played this song and hearing this versions has severely damaged the great memories I had of those shows.
A 2012 Lamborghini Aventador costs close to $400,000. However, in 15 minutes someone with a large hammer can turn it into scrap. The fact that I value something greatly, does not mean it cannot be damaged by something really bad.
