Any value to Combat Cane Spinning (CCS) for Self Defense? It's still a hot topic in the Caner Universe as many traditionalist are only familiar with the "old and limited" way of Cane Spinning. ACSD and The Combat Cane Spinning Society are changing the way Caners Spin today. How familar are you with ACSD Comabt Cane Spining and what are your thoughts on this growing Caner movement?

Oh I am full on with you folks at ACSD. I just wish I was younger, so I could have mastered it, without all the aches and pains I have from physical labor the day before, just getting up in the morning. LOL

Canne de combat use similar spinning strikes, silat an Philippines martial arts especially.....they used it in ww2 against Japanese. I like to use a jab as follow up to a swing, solar plexus or floating rib, my first strike is to the inside knee or groin. I always go with the theory of if they cant stand , breath an third strike is shoulder joint or spine. A jab like bayonet thrust is pretty hard to defend against.

Same angles of attack as in knife combative's. I recently found myself in the need for a cane. Thanks for the intro.

1 minute in and YES! Absolutely bloody agree! Holding the horn at the point most caners are taught is a weak position for figure 8 striking. It is less easily controlled and easily knocked out of the hand. From the horn the cane ends up wayward and controlling you and not you controlling the cane. Plus, what if you had a cane with no handle and a knobbed end (excuse the pun) or you had an umbrella with a simple straight handle? When the cane stops against something it won't be easy to restart from the horn with any kind of intensity? Holding the shaft guarantees power, control and the ability to restart or slide past and out of the way. The switch is great too and is used a lot in garrotte venezolano. Great video!

Thank you for commenting and your kind feedback OzVegan! ACSD newcomers often ask why we handle from the shaft "so much"-you've covered it here 😎 - Love and Respect for our Venezuelan Garrote and Palo Canario brothers 👊🏻

The only fault I can find is that he is able to shift his weight from one side to another if I did that I would fall over because I need my cane for support

Thank you for commenting Stephen! Our big word for that is CIRCUMVENT or work around limitations. Many who come to ACSD need a Cane to ambulate so we focus on what they CAN do as oppossed to what they can't and show them alternatives. This is important because...criminals don't care about anyone's limitations. We have Caners who need two Canes to walk, others who need an oxygen tank to get around so we're experienced in adapting CaneFlow principles to different needs. To learn if this approach could help you, please text CCC to 305-745-7839. Stay Safe and Keep Canin'!

If I choose to fight then I choose to win, quickly, and walk away. I'm not trying to scare the opponent. I hope to break a knee, a forearm, some fingers, and cause considerable pain and significant disability. Not impressed today, by the spinning and displays, but I'll practice it some. Probably good for keeping the bad guy away.
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense 4 года назад
Thanks for comenting Thomas! - So we're clear, any Cane self defense application we share presumes you were FORCED TO FIGHT. Given the choice, we avoid it altogether whenever possible. "Choosing" to fight is NOT ACSD strategy. - What you describe in "breaking" is what we refer to as incapcitating whenever possible so you can survive without having to escalate the response. In ACSD, the Powershot Template is ALL about that.- You don't have to be "impressed" by anything we do, however, since you're commenting we offer clarity. What you refer to as "spinning and displays" are segments of Combat Cane Spinning (CCS) which are unique to ACSD. The question of whether it offers self defense benefits beyond the actual applications in this vid which is the focus, can be found in answering the following: Does Cane Self Defense involve neuromuscular coordination? If the answer is an obvious YES, then CCS training, which is also a form of brain training contributes to Cane Self Defense effectiveness. Asked another way, does being ambidextrous with the Cane, having the ability to explode with strikes with either hand, coordinating footwork with strikes under duress etc make you a more effective Self Defense Caner? Ditto if the answer is yes. - Also, CCS is NOT merely to scare away an opponent. The Powershot Template forces your assailant to make a decision in the first 3-5 seconds of an altercation. Risk getting cracked or live to "rob" another day for example. Lastly, when you say you'll practice "some"...what curriculum are you following? CCS is a structured ACSD curriculum. Are you trying to learn from RU-vid? There is an infinitely better way to get Cane Trained today right in your home with the support, guidance and accountability so you actually get it done!-To learn more please text CCC to 305-745-7839. Thanks and Keep Canin'!

Hi Im in the U.K I lovecyour video's I would really like to see the canes defensive apllications on multipul attackers as the reaction to stike and impact is crusially important if youbshould ever have to use the cane in self defence you should hope to have trained and experianced the muscle memory grip on your cane and balance on impact as well as several simulated attacks by intimidating people of all sizes heights and weights under the pressure of the moment as your out walking.

65 years old and use a cane because I need too to walk any distance. Have always felt the cane could be a useful tool for more than walking. I am relatively strong in my upper body and arms but weak in my right leg and am not sure at my age if I could learn or even be effective in doing the things I see you doing. That said, I see video courses but in my area there does not seem to be any hands on courses. Video courses only, at least for me, to not seem like they would be effective.
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense 4 года назад
Thank you for commenting Gaylan. The short and quick answer is YES-you can be effective, 65 was the median age in our Feb Immersion training in Miami this year. The training can be adjusted to circumvent injuries and physical limitations. However, keep in mind training also IMPROVES and can often REVERSE limitations. We focus on what you CAN do, not on what you can't. - That said, today most Cane Instructors are being certified mostly online with a structured, step by step curriculum and a live 3-day training experience. Most who learn online with our program can start teaching Level 1 in 6 Weeks. Today's technology allows for that. Matter of fact, Monday April 6 Joe Robaina will be leading the 6 Week Cane At Home Challenge for beginners to attain their first Cane Rank in the comfort and safety of their homes. Today you cannot tell the difference between an Advanced Instructor who trained in person versus an Advanced Instructor who learned online. We document this consistently and Caners always comment about it in our Live Immersion trainings. - If you'd like to explore whether online training might be right for you, please feel free to reach out, we love speaking on the phone: 800-289-8188. - We may be apart, but we CAN Cane Together. Stay Safe Gaylan and Get Canin'!

I'll admit I'm very new to the "caner" universe. My need for a cane is a result of a "mild" stroke. I see a lot of shifting from hand to hand, a crouching stance, etc. These moves are less-than-useful for a person who will probably fall down when trying to crouch or has one super weak arm. Can you direct me to any cane-defense videos for people who actually NEED a cane?
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense 3 года назад
Thank you for commenting and sharing Steve! We have ACSD graduates who neeed 2 Canes to ambulate, those who can only use one side of their bodies due to stroke, cancer patients on chemo, others on oxygen tanks to name a few. We use the ACSD principles and meet you where you're at. We circumvent the drills as necessary with respect to the principles. We suggest requesting the no cost Cane Clarity Call if you're serious about getting Cane trained and learning how we do what we do. Text CCC to 305-745-7839 or call 800-289-8188. Here's ACSD Founder Joe Robaina elaborating on the topic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--Wq3Fw_gUDY.html - Stay Safe!

When you do this figure-eight, stare at the attacker like a mad-man and shout 'Back off!' you seem so purely insane, I would so get away from you as fast as I could and pray to never meet you again...

Thank you for commenting Marc! Great observation and on point. Mostly ignored in self defense traninng, assertive verbals can play a significan role and coupled with a focused Powershot template can quickly send the message you're NOT a "soft" target. Ideally, it would be great to protect without making contact. Stay Safe and Keep Canin'!
