DATA PROCESSING (ASAMMDF GUI/API)
The CANedge2 logs data in the popular and interoperable MDF4 format. As such, log files can be loaded in multiple CAN software/API tools - including the free open source asammdf GUI/API. With asammdf, you can load natively the CANedge log files, analyze the data and DBC convert it to human-readable form (physical values) - incl. support for OBD2 and J1939. Further, you can create advanced graphical plots for visual data analysis.
The asammdf tool can also be used as a Python API for data processing automation.

DATA PROCESSING (MDF4 CONVERTERS)
If you prefer to process data in your favorite existing tools, you can use simple drag & drop converters to convert log files into popular formats like Vector ASC, PEAK TRC, CSV and more. These converters can also be used via the CLI and in scripts.

CANCLOUD - MANAGE YOUR DATA & DEVICES
The CANedge2 lets you auto-upload data to your own S3 server. To manage devices and data, you can use the free open source CANcloud tool directly via your browser. CANcloud lets you log into your own server to e.g. configure devices over-the-air, download/delete uploaded data - or review devices via the status dashboard.

OPEN SOURCE DASHBOARDS
The CANedge2 uses open interfaces with free open source APIs - both for data processing (e.g. the asammdf Python API) and for server management (the S3 APIs). This makes the CANedge2 ideal for integration into custom solutions - for example your existing BI systems, or open source dashboards. Popular open source dashboard solutions include Grafana and Dash. How hard is it to decipher LIN using this device. For example, I need to know when the car calls for certain LEDs to turn on.

I just got mine in the mail a few days ago, but stupidly, I lost the micro SD card that came with it. How do I restore the device to the factory image? I have another SD card, but I don't know what format (EXT, NTFS, FAT, etc.) it has to be in. Is there a base image I can download somewhere for these?

Does either the CANedge or CLX000 support real-time graphing / logging of *CANopen* devices? I see many software tools (BusMaster, CANvas/Wireshark) are for generic CAN usage, not necessarily designed for viewing PDOs, setting SDOs, etc?

Hi Ben, both the CANedge/CLX000 let you log raw CANopen data to an SD card. The CLX000 also lets you stream raw CANopen data in real-time via USB. The CANopen data can be decoded to human-readable form via a DBC file, assuming you know the conversion rules. Typically, the information regarding PDO/SDO conversion will be contained in some other format, but this can be mapped into the DBC structure if needed. You can also configure our devices with transmit messages, e.g. to send a single shot custom frame with SDOs for configuration of your CANopen network. Note, though, that you'll have to know how to construct the relevant frames - and you're not able to change them real-time. The CANedge2 with WiFi supports remote over-the-air configuration updates, so here you can in principle set up advanced remote configuration of your CANopen networks via scripted config updates and custom transmit messages.

Interesting.. I'm looking to reverse engineer certain obd2 commands from VAGcom, or another piece of hardware called OBDEleven. Would this work? It's for VW specific commands.

We have multiple customers that use the device for this type of purpose. To reverse engineer request-based data like proprietary OBD2 messages, the first step would be to loop through the possible request messages. You can do this via the transmit list of the CANedge, which lets you send up to 64 custom CAN frames into the CAN bus. When you receive responses, you can analyze the data in order to further isolate which parameters each frame relates to. It should be noted, however, that reverse engineering data is a fairly time-consuming task.

Thanks for your question. Yes, the CANedge lets you log raw CAN data from e.g. a vehicle - and it can be configured to also request e.g. OBD2 data. This means you can request OBD2 parameters like Vehicle Speed and Engine Speed to record these, assuming your vehicle supports these data parameters via OBD2. The CANedge does not have a built-in GPS, but we're soon releasing a GPS-2-CAN add-on module, that can be directly connected and powered via the 2nd port. This means that you can record GPS data (and accelerometer/gyroscope data) in perfect time synchronization with the raw CAN/OBD2/J1939... data from your vehicle.
