Canelo weighs in well over 170lbs fight night. The catch-weight bullshit he does is to fight smaller people or to bring bigger people down to that weight to force them to do unhealthy dieting. To say that Canelo is smaller than Golovkin is utter bullshit. Golovkin had no reason to accept the catch weight considering that the WBC mandates that the belt has to be contested at the Middleweight limit, a weight Canelo has an easier time reaching. Hell, he was 167 a month prior to fighting Cotto at his catchweight of 155. He was even overweight with Angulo and had to re-write the catchweight.

But he should stay there and stop making people dehydrate for him even though he will probably outweigh them fight night. If he has a belt that is for 160lbs, he defends that title at that weight limit as he can clearly make that weight. Pacquiao had catch weights, especially with likes of Margarito, but it's not like he was heavier than Margarito fight night.

Boxing has become business first and it's hurt the sport and diminished it's popularity. Golden Boy doesn't want to risk their "cash cow", which is what canelo currently is. Specially with the huge Mexican population in the US, they know people will pay to watch him WIN. If he loses to GGG Golden Boy will have no product to sell... He may want to fight GGG but he won't be allowed. Too bad, it would've been an incredible fight. Hope it may happen soon, but we'll have to wait.
