Even talking about a "Rehydration Clause" is nutty because the dude willingly fought at 175 pounds several times. Yes, Benavidez fits the profile of a 175-pound fighter, but no more so than Sergey Kovalev and Dmitry Bivol who'd also be about 25 pounds heavier for a fight if they could make the 168-pound limit. Canelo is my dude, but he is clearly apprehensive to fight Benavidez. Jermall Charlo made many of the same excuses to not fight Benavidez, too. DB is doing the right thing by moving up and staying active. If he positions himself for a chance to face Bivol or Beterbiev, his star will continue to rise.

@@mimicmage I just think Canelo is older and in a power position where he knows he has the luxury of calling his own shots. I don't think he wants to be in grueling fights that take years out of your body especially as an older man moreso in the latter parts of his career. At this stage Canelo is in the "prizefighting" stage of his career similar to Mayweather in his later years. The risk to reward ratio has to make sense for him and unfortunately that means the fans may not get the fights we want. At the end of the day boxing is a dangerous sport and it's Canelo who would have to live with the situation if he is suffers permanent injury at the wrong end of a dangerous fight not his fans, so I think those things heavily influence his decisions

I fully agree with Canelo. If it's not obvious before I'll make it obvious for you now. The whole munguia fight was because PBC DIDNT WANT TO GIVE CANELO THE OTHER CHARLO AND SPENCE IN THE 3 FIGHT DEAL THEY PROMISED. So they told him munguia would be good for the 35 mill they promised in the deal and that's why they were able to work it out. That's the only reason munguia happened else it probably would have been berlanga. The WBC announced that they were going to order the mandatory, and David decided to move up and fight a guy who just came back to boxing last year after taking 3-4 years off.
