Trivia Fact: "Going Up the Country" is virtually a cover of the song "Bull Doze Blues" recorded by Henry Thomas in the late 1920s, the flute solo taken note by note from the original. I found this out many years after diggin' Canned Heat's version, when I rented a CD from the local library here in Clovis, CA that had many old blues tunes that had been covered in later years by rock artisits and made into hits. Wish I could remember the title. Anyways, what a fantastic lesson.

Crackling Rosie and Goodbye Horses were my favorites from that game but I really like this tune as well. I just went back and played skate 3 all the way through last week, brought me back to all of these gem songs

Did you know that the actual chord progression being that the song was in Bb was played by Alan Wilson with his guitar tuned way down so a D Major was a Bb and he used those three first position simple chord positions DMajor(Bb) G7(Eb7) and A7(F) .Pretty innovative to think that thought. I was thinking maybe the old blues players did that possibly..Great Song luv the flute!!

When you lift the index finger on the D chord, it needs to be on the 4th beat, not the 3rd. Listen to the song. The index finger lifts on: 1-2-3-LIFT 1-2-3-LIFT etc. You’re lifting index finger like: 1-2-LIFT-4 1-2-LIFT-4.
hey marty why no forum for premium members. i bought your master blues set and got the one year @ guitar jamz. but no forum . to ask questions about the lessons what a let down. its a sweet course but you could make it a lot better by adding a forum as well as including some tab like for the land of a7s for instance.
I bet u could figure it out by listening to BORN ON THE Byou (sp?) "BOTB" by CCR is 3 chords: an arppegiated E7 @ the 5th position and then a quick change of barre chords A to D then back to arppegiated E7. Don't forget a temelo pedal for the amazing overall sound.

Is this standard tuning?? Because It sounds off... It could be the strumming to be honest. It looks like your hitting all the strings. But even when I do hit just the EAD strings or the ADE strings the other strings are really high up and its really hard not to hit them. Either way I'm confused. Help! lol

Hippyfide. Ha! It says a lot more than a new guitar player may think. Not me man. I've been around the block 23 times. Canned Heat were the ultimate hippy band. Watch Woodstock. you'll get a feel of it. Not saying it's anything special now, but it was then. Guys in USA were getting drafted to fight in Viet Nam. Hippy was the alternative to heavy shit. Anyway, I saw this band play this in 1969 at the RoundHouse.
