Canned Heat were one of the hardest living and hardest working bands of the late sixties and through the seventies. Led by the inimitable Bob "The Bear" Hite, a huge man with a personality to match, they established themselves as one of the greatest white blues bands of all time. This concert from Montreux in 1973, their only appearance at the festival, captures them at their peak.

That Hammond was a tough instrument for a rock band because it was hard to move & set up from gig to gig. Touring with one was always iffy. Sometimes it wouldn't make it on time and a smaller more compact organ had to be utilized. I appreciate whenever I see it used onstage and commend CH for the effort. In the seventies CH played the saloon/nightclub circuits up till the passing of the Bear, that was about 1980 and that was when the band collapsed into history. But, thanks to drummer Fito for bringing them back later on as an oldies band with new members.

t. cregger Yep , Alan 'Blind Owl ' Wilson died in 1970 , this was 1973. Of this band ,i believe there is only 3 orig. members ,Bob Hite , voc. , Fito de la Para drms., and if thats Henry Vestine ,gtr. , n i think it is . The line up changed here n there over the years , with Fito always anchoring it. Bob n Henry passed away also. The Band continues today 2018, with original Bass player Larry Taylor , Fito , n early 'new' member Harvey Mandel . + at least another gtr. player . Dont FORGET To Boogie ,
