Their catalog is def worth diving into if you like boogie and the blues. On the Road, Going Up the Country, Poor Moon, Amphetamine Annie and Whiskey and Wimmen (with John Lee Hooker). Going Up the Country is an excellent place to start and is a bit of a hippie anthem. ❤
Great 1960's blues and boogie band. They played Monterrey Pop and Woodstock. Saw them about 5 or 6 years ago. These two really old guys walked by me while we were watching the warm up band. Turns out they were in Canned Heat.😅😅
I love this song. Great choice, Biz. "Let's Work Together" was written by and originally recorded by rhythm and blues star Wilbert Harrison ("Kansas City") who also did a fine version. I prefer Canned Heat's harder version, though. Other good ones from Canned Heat are "Goin' Up the Country" (flute, Biz!), and "On the Road Again." Bob "the Bear" Hite on lead vocals, which was a rarity for a Canned Heat hit song.
Yeah, but Canned Heats use of the word is a coarse hard liquor like moonshine but not as clean that black bluesmen (poor) used to drink as it was cheap. It usually was prepared by heating it up in a tin can… Therefore Canned heat
Going Up The Country, Rollin and Tumblin, Woodstock Boogie; these guys were blues based boogie woogie rock and roll band. They stole the show at Woodstock, 1969 Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson - lead guitar Bob "Bear" Hite - vocals Henry "Sunflower" Vestine - rhythm guitar Larry "Mole" Taylor - bass guitar Fito de la Parra - drums Alan Wilson is a member of the 27 club; he died of a barbituate overdose in 1970
If you didn't notice Canned Heat was flying the American Flag upside down. This is only meant to be done "as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property."
Seen Canned Heat and PG&E Pacific, Gas & Electric a few times together. Smoking dope and LSD where it was at. Charlie Allen singer was the first Brother rock singer I have ever seen. Then the Chamber Brothers were the first Rock band I ever saw. Their hits were many but, their tune; TIME HAS COME is a classic
My heroes, the inventors of Psychedelic Blues. Rest In Peace to Big Fat/The Bear, Blind Owl, The Mole and the Sunflower. Fito and The Snake are still with us but I understand The Snake is dying from cancer.
"On the road again!" 'Goin up the "Country!"Canned Heat- The name comes from hobo's drinkin "Sterno" a Canned lighter like fluid for keepin warm just open the can and light it!) Also do "Boogie Chillin No.2. with John Lee hooker!" Alan" Blind Owl" Wilson's, Harp Solo is a must!
Cover of a Wilbur Harrison song. Canned Heat brought great Blues to the masses and released a fine album with John Lee Hooker. Check out Fried Hockey Boogie.
You can’t beat the classics. Awesome times back then and still applicable today. You would of loved the b/w video of the 70’s girls dancing in the clip. Unfortunately, today’s music has just lost it’s groove. Here’s one for you. Savoy Brown. “All Gone Wrong.” And thanks for sharing..
I remember when this was a radio hit, and I always loved it for a lot of the same reasons you mentioned. Canned Heat was the ultimate "boogie band". I got to see them once as a "consolation" for a different opening act having to cancel. Hell, I was MUCH happier with Canned Heat as the opener then I was with the original opener anyway! Top notch musicians.
Canned Heat is def worth it, my man!! I've been a big fan of theirs since the '60's. I love watching someone "discover" older music for the 1st time. It's phenomenal; truly a joyous thing to watch & experience. And how apropos is this song for our time in global/universal culture? Peace~
1968 these guys played at several odd, tiny venues in central Fla...I caught them once at a middle school cafeteria on the tiny 'riser's like stage...and a few other odd places. Loved their chugging groove. Very tight, very good.
Bob Hite (singer / band leader) was a big blues fan and made certain original black artists got credit for the songs he sang. He helped to popularize the songs and bring recognition of the artist with white audiences.
At that time the guitar was still made with a heavily overdriven tube amp, today we often play it artificially (but just as well) with a transistor amp and an overdrive pedal (but tube amps still sound better). Anyway, here in europe Canned Heat was one of the first white bands to play blues rock and that was very impressive back then. Thanks for sharing and best regards @all from hamburg (germany)
Man you play some happenin songs, dig yr choices. I'm listening to music over 60 years this is one of my favorite songs ever. Totally baffled why it became forgotten! Going up the Country and On the Road Again are quite good. 1969;was a great yr for music🎉🎉🎉
This is one of the finest blues rock jam bands from the 60's and 70's. This is about as southern as you can get...we're talking Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker were these guys guitar heroes and mentors; this is one of their biggest hits "Canned Heat - On The Road Again" (by the channel: HAAKIE48) be prepared to have "ear gasms" this is some beautiful stuff 🎶🎸💙🎷
This song came out during a time when there was a lot of civil unrest, and I always thought it was about sending a message asking everyone to quell all the racism going on.
They were fire until the original guitar player died but the band kept on ,, Alan Wilson, suffered from depression and joined the 27 Club . Going Up the Country" "On the Road Again" .."Amphetamine Annie" check it out -
Ohh my what the younger people don't know, it's a shame they don't look back, they would see that every thing they think is cool/dope? has been done before, very little stuff now a days is original, it's the same old drum beat and some young person singing or trying to sing looking Hey look at me I am cool...Ha makes me laugh and sad at the same time.
