It seems to be a trend that I'm going back and listening to come classics that I missed growing up! While I was chomping into Opeth, Job For A Cowboy, Lengsel, and Metallica as a young whipper snapper, I was completely ignoring Cannibal Corpse. The most I knew about Corpsegrinder was what I saw of him on a documentary about metal music - I think it was Sam Dunn's "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey". Well, I waited to long to sit down and seriously listen to one of the most foundational death metal bands of all time. Lets hang out while I react to and analyze Cannibal Corpse: "Evisceration Plague"!

If you are interested in hearing more Corpsegrinder high screams and in general variation of vocal types, look into Paths of Possession. It's a melodeath band he was in in the early 2000's that has a lot more dynamic and melodic music where he experiments a lot with his voice. He does some really neat stuff in A Heart for a Heart, and Darklands is a song that captures a lot of the cool dynamics of the band as a whole. It is seriously underrated music.

Corpsegrinder is *very* , very loud. He actually doesn't have much ''grit'' in there at all. There's a lot of overtone action going on as well. But for instance your vocals (and those of many other guys) are MUCH more gritty. He basically just blasts air in ''neutral' for his lows/mids. The highs are squeezed as hell. Basically like belting out a whisper and shaping your mouth/throat for a high. That gives that exact sound.

@@deathcoredadjoke9351 Same dude. My take is; judging by his live performances when they first started out, he kept his throat too open and just pushed with no control and whatever sound came out he went with, sort of just let his chords bounce around randomly and felt all the resonance in his soft palate with no actual feeling of it escaping his face, forehead etc. I used to try and mimic Barnes when I first started and thats sort of how it felt.

Hey man! If you see this comment I have to suggest you a band called distant! I would like too see you react- analyze them! This guys are killing down tempo deathcore and I think you'll like them very much too! My personal favorite is helmouth and heirs of torment! Thanks for your time stay healthy and keep up this beautiful content!!

I suppose Corpsegrinder's sound/vocal technique is also affected by his wide neck and throat. I mean it has to play a part in how deep he can go, right? 🤔
