It's the immediate access to jazz giants like Cannonball that makes me humbled and grateful for the age of the internet and RU-vid in particular.

I cannot understand why jazz is fading away. I first heard this as a teenager in the 60s and just knew that this was it.

Cannonball Adderly , to me, is what Jazz Saxophone is supposed to sound like-raucous and on the verge of being out of control

Cannonball was a master. Soul, technique, wicked sense of rhythm, phrasing, and timing. Always knows where the blues are. Takin’ us to church! Go ahead Adderley bros, take us all there.

When I was in 9th grade I bought " Cannonball's Greatest Hits". I listened to it over and over again. This was in Boca Raton Florida. Believe it or not one week my teacher had to take off and my class got Cannonball and Nat's High school Band teacher. Boy he was tough and strict. I finally got the nerve to ask him if he was Cannonball's teacher. In a very strong and commanding voice he replied " Yes I was Juilian Adderley's teacher!". Boy if I only had him as my Band instructor I would of became great. I tried to play on an old Alto sax with a broken mouthpiece. Forty years later I got that sax fixed for $4.50. I played the horn and it played like butter. I sounded like Bird. Very sadly it wasn't long that I had to have all my rotten teeth removed by an Oral surgeon. Sadly, that's the story of my life. Right as I was about to achieve great success everything fell apart.
