Very nice results! The 500T is rather rough on Super 8, but I never thought way back in the 70s that any film stock would be this fast and look much better than the Ektachrome 160. Of course the darkest scenes are not overexposed, since the f-stop is simply maxed out. The daylight shots look great. Looking forward to your upcoming Christmas footage!

Look at that hallation on the car's back lights. Wow!! I always love horror masks and costumes on film, because they look so creepy. Ive watched at least 3 Comicon clips on film and they look like real movies.

Halloween isn’t what it used to be. I was the only one who decorated on our street, but I do go overboard with it. I like the way you talk about if you ever get your 4K Scanner. I know exactly what you mean. I ordered the RetroScan 816 in December of 2022, and I am still waiting. I may be ….. but I’m still hopeful that it will be delivered. Maybe in time for Christmas.

Thanks, Miloh! We, luckily still get quite a bit of Halloween decor around our neighborhood. There was a ton of kids out. I know your pain with the scanner wait, I ordered my 4K unit in March of '22 😥🤞

I loved this video. It looked so cool. You’re lucky to have so many neighbors that decorate. I made a jack o lantern and put it on the porch and hung a plastic skeleton from the door and had some little plastic skulls around the porch. 😂. We only had 7 kids come to the door this year but it was so unseasonably cold (40 F) for Texas that I understood why the number of kids was so low. Thanks for sharing your movie and for using 500T outside. Lol, I do that sometimes too in my 35mm K1000 and it’s looks cool. Have a great weekend!

Thanks, KD!!! We had so many kids in our neighborhood out trick or treating, it was pretty awesome. The sad part is, we don't get to hand out candy because we're all out running around :)

Hey Mike! Another great video, sir. I really like the look of 500T, even outdoors during the day. Those Canon XL cameras are great for exterior night. My first S8 camera was a Canon 310XL that I bought brand new after saving up my paper route money. That was 1979. Didn't have much for features but it did have that crazy fast f/1.0 lens. I'm sure you're familiar. I'm a massive horror film fan also and still act like a little kid on Halloween - my favorite "holiday" as well! I still intend to send some film your way for processing and scan, I'm just waaaaaayyyy behind schedule on a few different projects. Until then, be well and I'll be in touch. Cheers!

Mike, I believe you recently said you were having problems using rechargeables in your 514XL. What issues are you having with it? Mine's running fine on NiMH batteries. Battery indicator lights up and no problems whatsoever.

Hey Nisei, for some reason, I have never been able to get it to even register with rechargeable batteries. To date, I've tried Eneloop, Amazon, Harbor Freight and EBL rechargeables. All fully charged and all NiMH. As soon as I pop fresh alkalines in, purrrs like a kitty. Weird because this is the only camera I have that does that.

@@Filmboy24 How odd. Almost sounds like they used different boards over the years that respond differently to lower voltages. I know there was cost cutting at one point because earlier models have trim potentiometers for both exposure and gain inside while later models only have a potentiometer for exposure correction and a fixed resistor for gain.

Mike, I plan to night shoot as you did, with some old 800T cartridges on my Sankyo em 40XL. Do I go full manual wide open (F1.2), or will I risk over exposing? Thanks!

I’m thinking you mean 500T, though 800T in Super 8 would be pretty awesome! If it were mine, I’d have no problem shooting outdoors at night wide open, however you may want to do a couple of meter tests at your specific location(s) first, just to be on the safe side.

I actually have 800T in my freezer. I'm guessing that camera on auto exposure may underexpose, so I may have to go manually wide open.@@Filmboy24

@@ArkOfMystery I absolutely must see this 800T Super 8 unicorn!! 😂 I'm not sure what the notch on an 800T cart looks like, but I would say, it will definitely overexpose it. The EM 40XL only properly meters (in auto) up to 160 ISO, so if it reads your cart at 160, it'll overexpose your film by about 3-4 stops. Probably not a big deal in the dark, if it's older, negative stock.
