Hi, good video, but maybe you forgot to say that the Sony A7 II has a significatve advantage: it has the E mount system, then can use many of the last and modern Sony lenses and from others manufactures vs Canon which has several mount systems.

Thank you for the comment. The Sony definitely has the advantage that it can take adapters use many different lenses from many different brands.

Thanks for the video, was interesting that you landed on the Sony! A couple of points - the main difference (some might say advantage?) is the A7ii is mirrorless! And while you may be able to get adapters for vintage lenses, the actual E-mount system on the Sony dates to 2011, while the Canon EF system goes all the way back to 1987, so you can use vintage lenses without any adapters at all on the Canon. I'm still undecided, but it helped a lot to see the example shots you took - thanks!

Thank you for the comment! Honestly, I like both cameras and that is why I still have them both. The Canon has so many EF mount lenses to choose from, there is no shortage of options for sure. The Sony being mirrorless has the win for adapters and using other lens mounts. I do reach for the Sony more often than Canon, mostly because of the small size and the ability to carry it around without it sticking out.

Interesting video. Thanks. I have the A7II which I bought new in Aug 2020. I can't comment on the Canon but I love my A7II. I already had an a6000, and I already had a speedlight and vintage lens collection and I wanted to try FF. It's true that the NP-FW50 batteries don't last long, but they are cheap and the fact they fit both my camera bodies is a bonus. I don't shoot videos, so that is not an issue for me. Dual card slots is also insignificant for what I do. I looked for a used A7II, but found that I could still buy a new one at Amazon for the price people were asking for used ones. I think the best advantage with Sony is the single lens mount across APS-C and FF. For example, I've been using my Sigma 85mm F1.8 FF lens on my a6000 which works very well at 127.5mm equivalent. The A7II just feels right in my hands. Very strongly built, with mag alloy construction, good EVF and LCD screen, excellent PQ, and I like the angular shape of the design. It has a retro look to it. It set the design pattern for all subsequent Sony bodies that have come out since.

Thank you for the insight and your experience with the Sony A7II. For the price it is a great FF camera, and has excellent image quality even with it being so old at this point. Sony was really ahead of it's time with this camera

Curious if you've ever tried using a vertical battery grip with your Sony a7II, and if so, your thoughts on the ergonomics? Thanks!
@marshalljvanderhoofphoto
@marshalljvanderhoofphoto 8 месяцев назад
I have used a battery grip for the A7II and the 5DIII. The grips do help with ergonomics a bit, but add some weight. I choose not to use the battery grip for the A7II mostly because I carry it when I want a small rig. Hope this helps. Thanks for the comment and question.

Thank you for the comment. For family photos or or tele for landscape the 135mm focal length is great. There are a lot of good budget options that fit the A7III. Enjoy the camera.

Hi,i bought Sony a7ii two weeks ago, i want to use it for portrait but i dont know which lenses its the best for that
@marshalljvanderhoofphoto
@marshalljvanderhoofphoto 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for the comment. Portraits can be taken with a range of focal lengths depending on the type of portrait, but traditionally a good portrait lens would be between 80mm to 135mm on full frame. Experiment though, create your style.

I can recommend the Sigma 35mm 1.4f ART

@marshalljvanderhoofphoto 8 месяцев назад
@@mrpoool1015 Thank you for the recommendation. I have not used the 35 ART, but used some of the other ART lenses from Sigma. They always impress me with their image quality especially at their price point. Good to hear that the Sigma 35 ART follows that same path.

I have been using different types of cameras to shoot events and family photo shoots. While you can use both zooms and prime glass to photograph portraits the focal length depends upon what type of portraits you prefer. Environmental portraits are full body photos with some of the background information involved, 35 mm is a good selection, if you are photographing head shots a 85mm on up is a good selection, some people like a 5omm as an all around lens, aperture is also important, at times your background is part of the photo and at times you want separation so a aperture of 1.4 on a prime lens is required. Alot depends upon your budget. I have photographed portraits on a crop sensor body, l used a Pentax 55mm 1.4 and a 77mm f1.8 they are for a DSLR Bodies I also have used a 24-70 f2.8 on a full frame body doing portraits out doors.

I just picked up the Sony A7II From Adorama camera ,it was listed as an open box I believe that it was a display model for 750 plus shipping and tax. This is not my first camera purchase, this is my 6th full frame camera along with APSC and micro 4/3 camera, I will use this camera as a walk around camera with a few small prime lenses. I photographed events for a number of years and I have many camera bodies with dual cards so the issue of one card is no problem. As a small camera with a full frame sensor you can put together a really small full frame camera setup.

Congrats on the new purchase, and thank you for the comment! I completely agree with you, this is a great full frame camera to build a small, mobile camera set up with. Enjoy.
