Just got mine this week and love it. I’m not a pro but I wanted a good camera that was easy to use and setup. I also allowed something that I could grow with as my skills progressed. The Canon 90D works perfectly for me and the features should hold up for years to come for what I do.

I agree that the 90D is an excellent camera - I own one myself, and I´m over the moon with it - but I´m not sure I'd recommend it for a beginner. I learned on a Rebel 750D, a camera capable of taking superb images and a little more "forgiving" than the 90D.

I’ve had canon cameras for s as long time and made my through from their basic models. I think the 90d could be used by a beginner and allow someone to grow without the cost of an upgrade. Maybe that’s an idea for another video🤔

I learned on a Rebel XT, the very second gen of digital SLR that Canon had released. I shot so much and eventually taught myself to shoot entirely in Manual mode. My shutter eventually gave out after nearly 50,000 frames. I'm heavily considering the Canon 90D as a new camera to continue my photography
@AndyHPhotography
@AndyHPhotography 3 месяца назад
@nativewarrior5052 that would be a great upgrade. If you want to go mirrorless and the budget stretches possibly check out the R7 too although it will need the lens adapter for your existing EF lenses

Yeah, I have a Canon 90D and have had it a little over a year. I was frustrated with it at the beginning. I had a lot of trouble with nailing the focus. Today, I am more comfortable with it, and with the focus. I agree about the live view, using the LCD screen. I use it 70-90% of the time, really depends on the brightness of the day. I have found that my exposures and focus are way better with the live view/ LCD screen. Plus tracking is way much easier with the LCD. I want to upgrade and really wanted to buy the R7. A friend said to me the other day why? He was carrying The R7 and R6 on a photo shoot at the horse racetrack. I was with my 90D and was talking to him about the cameras we had. He felt that the 90D was the better performer over the R7. And yes, my 90D did very well in capturing the horses and riders. (Yay for the huge amount of practice with the 90D). I would still love to try out the R7. Now about the R6, I have shot with it as a loaner twice, love that camera, (thank you George's Camera!). My friend said to get the R5, (that I can not afford). But one day would still like a R6, but like my friend said, "save up for the R5". LOL! But the 90D is worth it as a DSLR, and it does have the capability of using a great many EF/EFS lenses. Great video!!! Thank you!! Edit: I agree with the opinions you gave in your video. I would keep my 90D and would buy another body (mirrorless) one day. I thought about your statement on buying another 90D as a replacement if needed. Very interesting, because it really makes sense if you have one already and need to replace it. I would hope also that Canon would still make it if that day ever came up. Thank you again.

Thanks you. I'm glad you liked it and thought it useful, it seems like we're on a similar journey with our photography. I suspect that Canon may make this longer than maybe some pundits are saying having looked at it's price point and the way it holds it's value on the second hand market.
@petercollins7848
@petercollins7848 Год назад
Virtually all recently produced cameras give the same results, any advertised advantage is just hype, you just have to learn how to use all the features. In difficult focussing situations just manual focus to where you think the subject will be and use multi-shot settings. At least one photo should be right.
@AndyHPhotography
@AndyHPhotography Год назад
@@petercollins7848 especially as they all use pretty much the same sensors and technology. Ultimately it’s is down to the photographer ‘seeing’ the required image and capturing it.

Hi, potential 90d owner here, would you mind clarifying what you said about nailing the focus.
@AndyHPhotography
@AndyHPhotography Год назад
I have not had any issues at all with the focus. The only lens that takes a bit of locking on is the 100-400 sigma which isn’t the fastest to focus anyway. With the 18-135 lens it is absolutely stunning and the tracking is superb (although I only use that a few times such as the Mach loop for aircraft)

I agree with all of your main points. I truly believe that for photographers, the mirrorless trend is largely marketing hype. Unless you have an unlimited budget for a mirrorless FF with high end glass or if you just want a small one body, one lens walk around camera, you will almost always better served by a DSLR. Ignore all of the videographers and smaller is better amateurs on DPReview, and buy some quality pro Nikkors or Canon L glass and a DSLR.

I literally bought this model at the time this video was released and I'm watching it now for the first time. I've chose it over the mirrorless for the very same reasons you've mentioned. This is my first proper camera after 10 years of using the small SX150IS (which I still consider a very great small camera with top results if you know how to get the most of it) and had a very long thought about which path should I take and I'm not regreting my choice. The transition was far easier than I thought it would be and I am actually surprised how much I'm using the viewfinder instead of the screen even tho I was very used to take photos using only my sceen on the smaller camera. 90D is actually much easier to use and to take good phtotos with (I'm yet to use the video options more seriously). I'm looking forward in using the 90D in years to come even tho they will be dominated by the new and improved mirrorless cameras. I'm more comfortable with "less is more" as same as I was with my smaller camera since many people thought I took all those photographs with a DSLR. Cheers mate!

I think Canon is making a big mistake in abandoning its SLRs. I will never opt for a device without a prism. The optical viewfinder has big advantages, as does the mechanical shutter. We must resist the bad marketing sirens, RF lenses are between 30 and 40% more expensive than EF, not to mention the crazy price of the bodies, even though they are cheaper to manufacture. Canon really takes us for pigeons. We must enter into resistance and continue to safeguard the existence of the reflex. Bravo for your courageous video, going against the grain and I wholeheartedly agree with you.

@@AndyHPhotography Canon is doing things in a sneaky way in order to give free rein to its new baby, to the detriment of his loyal historical customers. After the discontinuation of the 7D MkII (a marvel), the 6D, there will be no 5D MkV, the EF optical fleet is increasingly reduced (abandonment of the 24-70 2.8 F4L), etc. We must face the facts. Some excellent points. I just upgraded from a 40D this year. I was looking at used cameras, so save some money. My wife pushed me instead to look at new, so I was seriously considering the 90D. My wife talked to a friend of hers, who happens to be a photographer, and was suddenly pushing me toward mirrorless. Ended up getting a refurbished R5 direct from Canon, and got a really good deal on it through one of the rebate sites that was offering 15% cash back at Canon at the time. I haven't had any major issues with battery life, although it is noticeably shorter than on my 40D. Of course, we also have to factor in that I'm now using a camera without a battery grip for the first time in 20 years - not quite ready to spend what Canon is asking for the grip. I definitely wouldn't mind picking up a 90D or similar as a backup someday, but I'm sure by the time I get to that point, the R7 II (or III) will be available.

I imagine that someone will continue to make them as long as there is demand, which I'm sure there will be. I was adamant that I would not go mirrorless - I love the optical viewfinder - but here I am. Then again, I was also adamant that I was going to stick with film and not go to digital, but things change and a chance to get a used 10D changed that somewhere around 16 years ago.

If you look at serious assessment sites the resolution on a crop sensor body is significantly lower than full frame. I just moved to a 90D in March. A few things about it. You must shoot using a higher shutter speed than with 3Ti. I’d go at least half again as fast as you are used to. The high pixel density of the sensor demands it. Some older lenses don’t have the resolution required to produce a sharp image. The sensor out resolves the lens. Some 90D users find it frustrating at first, but wth perseverance the 90D is an awesome camera.

Hi, I’ve stumbled down the rabbit hole of wanting to replace/upgrade my camera. I currently have a (now discontinued) canon 200d which was perfect for my first ever camera. Mainly used for video and some photography. Now I’m really , really REALLY needing some advice … deciding whether to go for canon 90d, canon mark 5d iv, or canon R7 . The R7 looks attractive to me because of : the autofocus capabilities and the newer technology that come with mirrorless , I’m scared because of not knowing how to use it compared to my traditional camera , I’m embarrassed to say I have only ever used auto on my camera but I’m going to learn how to use manual. Also slightly worried about the ‘overheating’ rumours/problems with mirrorless, but apparently shouldn’t be an issue if I don’t intend to do shoot 30min + .. I’m interested in the canon mark iv because it seemed EVERYONE thinks it’s a beast and amazing but then after research I saw it’s better primarily for photography AND it doesn’t have a flip out screen (a feature I currently have and love) and then obviously the 90d …. I think is a really really good option as it’s a step up (several steps) to what I have and probably the most familiar one I’d be used to .. just scared of thinking the R7 is more superior I think is my problem… would really appreciate your thoughts.

When looking at the Canon range the 90D it provided IMO the best value for money, like Andy I have no regrets. I find it to be both flexible and produces great photos ( not down to me, credit to the camera!). I would find it hard to part with, to be honest. Andy mentioned battery life I have never had to change a battery when out other than to use one to the point of exhaustion over several days out. I like the idea of the autofocus features and EVF as well as dual cards in case of failure for weddings etc. of the R7, I tend to shoot more action and moving subjects (horses) and to be honest the 90D looks like a great unit and you’ve got the lenses available which of course always helps. With Canon not producing DSLR cameras anymore, how much longer will they service the 90D? US Law says 7years from last sale of, but…I usually don’t switch or purchase a new camera unless it doesn’t work & repair cost is to high. I have seen some really quality wildlife photos from the Canon D-series cameras. Happy shooting.
@AndyHPhotography
@AndyHPhotography Год назад
That's a great question. The 90D can still be bought, but there will not be a DSLR upgrade/replacement as Canon move solely to mirrorless along with other manufacturers. It is still an awesome camera and at the moment I think offers much greater value for money than the new mirrorless ranges coming out. I have also noticed it is holding it's price on the secondhand market (at least here in the UK). I can't see myself switching unless mine actually breaks and they are no longer available

@@AndyHPhotography Well, i bought the EOS R7, not only because i had RF lenses already, but just for the RF 800 F11 for example ("affordable" and the lightest, very stable handheld 800mm you can get) The R7 is basically a glorified, mirrorless 90D but the 4k fine, 1080p120, HDR PQ and clog3 option is a nice to have I also enjoy the 15 fps efcs for BIF for example, 30 fps electronic more or less useless except for stationary birds and lower SS to get a higher chance of a really sharp one. But i also mainly use EF lenses and the Meike Filter Adapter with 150-600, 17-55 2.8, 100 2.8 macro etc, except i want it really light or versatile, then RF. I thought also about the 90D, but coming from an RP going "down" to APS-C was already something i wanted to avoid, but no RF mount, no IBIS, no modern video/clog3 features were just too much downsides, also the R7s autofocus and tracking capabilities is something you really dont want to miss in 2023+, even the R7s autofocus is already outdated and by far not as sticky as the R6 II and R8 autofocus....

Hi, officially it's a dslr, but the 'live' view mode gives you effectively full mirrorless capabilities, including focus tracking and features you'd normally see on mirrorless. The only thing it lacks that a mirrorless camera has is the EVF as this is still an optical viewfinder on the 90D, but I use the screen 95%+ of the time giving me the full mirrorless features. I upgraded from the 650D which meant all of my lenses worked perfectly with the 90D.
