I've been doing some event recording (C70) with a Canon 100-400 L IS II and using the Canon EF - R mount adaptor - similar settings like your video - I'm amazed just how well it works - some of the lighting is not so good at times but the camera and lens hold focus. Keep the awesome videos coming Carlos - Great work!
Great video. I have the 24-105 but in low light the AF is not great. At all. Do you think the 24-70 f2.8 would be better if shooting events. Mainly in low light? Also what iso would you go to at the most for professional work with the c70?
I wish I saw this before I shot a 3 camera interview, 2 C70's and an R5c for the wide shot. I was going 2.8 because it looks so nice but had some issues. When my 15-35 started searching I switched to another camera angle in the edit so it worked out but... I should have used my 24-105.
I have actually found the opposite in my testing. I have the RF 35, RF 15-35, RF 24-105, and RF 24-240. I was lucky enough to still have a couple EF lenses laying around. An EF 70-300 and an EFS 18-135. For me the EF and EFS lens auto focus behaves much more snappy and much more solid than the RF lenses. In studio settings the RF lenses seem to be rock solid, but in actual practice they lose tracking and focus and hunt a lot.
Have you had the chance to test the Sigma 18-35’s AF performance in the C70? I think that’s going to be a popular choice for a lot of people picking up the C70
I'm seeing a lot of feedback about bad autofocus popping up all over the place from new c70 users... not sure what's going on there. there're showing tests where it focuses when they look directly at the lens but if they turn sideways, the tracking loses them instantly and starts hunting. its a growing chorus of complaints which is unfortunate. damnit why can't they just give their best tech. People are even saying their old 80ds are way better with autoficus... I cant do without the face autofocus features, and in my vids I look away from the lens a lot, so that would suck badly if it couldn't handle it. unusable. apart from the face detect autofocus, some new c70 users are also showing how when you try object focusing, it only detects edges with high contrast and struggles and hunts when trying to lock onto white surfaces with gradients of tone rather than hard contrasting edges. did you find that at all?
my guess would be that they are struggling with exposure which then affects the AF performance but IDK, it is not an issue I am running into with adapted glass nor native that also includes when I am using the Canon Speedbooster.
I bet that 24-105 is a beast. Most people don't realize that they love there 2.8 lenses but most people were shooting 2.8 on s35 cameras which is closer to f4 on FF. I actually hate when movie or commercial is shot entirely at really fast aperture. Yea the shots are pretty 1 for 1 but watching an entire show at super shallow DOF is annoying. Those New cooking show Documentary on netflix are stellar but the entire episodes were shot super shallow. Must've been a nightmare to pull focus.
Hello Carlos, the RF 25-105 is blown out of the market in Germany. Do you think the 24-240mm could be an option? Or is the difference in quality to the 24-105 not acceptable?
work on c70 with live streams. Sigma performs really well for me, with continuously moving subject and face tracking. Initially I was thinking I miss wifi in C70, for controlling the camera AF from my phone, but I do not need it. It works very good, better than my Eos R with Sigma 18-35. The only SEROIUS problem is that HDMI does not carry exact framerate output, but it is in some way oversampled, what causes jerky movements in other framerates than 29.97. This is strange and it seems Canon intentionally blocked clean HDMI output from C70.
Did you happen to see that some (I tested 3) EF lenses don’t allow you to change the autofocus speed in the menu? It gets grayed out, I’m assuming that means many lenses won’t allow you to change the focus pull type look, unless using RF lenses? I’m surprised Gerald and some other reviewers haven’t mentioned it. What is your experience on this, if you’ve noticed, thanks.
Is the 24-105 f/4 better than the 24-70 F2.8 regarding the autofocus ? And how is the manual focus, as it has no focusing stops ? Is it precise and nice to use ? Thanks !
I'm seeing the RF 24-105 go on sites like FB Marketplace for as little as $275. Is that right? I feel like I'm looking at the wrong lens or something, because that price for what this lens does it just insane. I'm saving all the listings until I can finally pull the trigger on my C70! Great content as always.
really great lens 24-105 F4 and i also saw less breathing;-) amazing. I would prefer 2.8, but this lets me think about buying this lens... Carlos, just some questions: 1) can i have a smooth aperture with the RF lenses... and how loud is the AF lenses ... Thanks 🙏
if you have the ability to set aperture changes in 1/3 stops that is as smooth as it gets and funny you mentioned the sound because that is almost non-existing on RF lenses compared to the EF counterparts.
35mm macro is STM lens it is super slow focus speed for video I use it and it is very slow for video for photo it is very fast I wish canon would keep same sped for video focus I realy dont se the reason why canon reduced speed of that lens in the video mode :(
I haven't tested them, because it is so easy to simply drop the LUT on top for a single click adjustment. Maybe I can tackle this topic over the holiday break.
The beauty as far as I understand C-Log2 is that it is literally the easiest to grade, in addition to providing the most DR. Download Canon's LUT for the C70 from their website. Import the footage. Apply the LUT. That's it (as long as you WB/exposed correctly in camera)!
Hey! Thanks for the Review.. Wanted to know how it works with the canon rf 85mm f2 macro is stm ob the canon c70.. does it works in his fully pontencial ? I would appreciate if you could give some advice please :) Thanks
I have the 16-35ef f4 and 24-105rf I’m buying c70 and adapter so I just happen to be lucky to have held on to these lenses I feel. My question is during times I’m not shooting clog3 will these 2 lenses give off a different color science or will they match ,if they will not match what’s best way to get them to match in post when not shooting clog3 ?
I just uploaded my C70 auto focus test video with the 3 exact same RF lenses - oh well *shrug* but I agree the RF 24-105 was the star in my tests as well
It’s no sense to compare auto focus on 35mm F1.8 and 15-35@35 F3.5 as the aperture is different hence the depth of field is so much different - that’s why it gone so hard for 35mm macro lens - the blured background! You should’ve make the test not only on same focal length (35mm) but the same aperture as well! When your face is blured out it’s really hard for C70 to “understand” that’s a face in the shot!
Dude, do you realize that if I attempted to make every test with every variable, it would be a full time job? When would I get any work done so that I could continue to make a living? I am sorry that I didn't meet your expectations. Hopefully someone will help you see exactly what you want to see or maybe you can hire them to perform that test for you. I'm always taking on new clients so feel free to reach out if you're interested.
@@carlosq00 Don’t get me wrong man. But comparing these lenses’ AF performance they should’ve been compared on F4 - that’s max 24-105 can go. Your comparison can be misleading for some of your subscribers, that’s it.
Since C70 has a super 35 sensor I am sticking with EF lenses and switching between full-frame and super 35 by switching between a standard EF adapter and a speed booster. I knew RF lenses would be better in AF, OIS, and IQ but hey I am saving money.
These are very helpful tests. Can you do a few with lenses wide open? I tend to shoot shallow so I'd love to see how they perform in AF wide open. Particularly the eyes.
