Pretty insightful and enjoyable to watch while scanning some negatives :)) Keep making content I used to have this lens when I was living in Barcelona and I loved how it rendered colors and the size of the lens.

I got a 28mm f2.8, a 40mm f2.8, and a 50mm f1.8 for less than $300 usd delivered. I'm not impressed by the overly expensive L series lenses.

Tamron 45mm 1.8 with IMAGE STAB... oh and a crazy 29cm close focus. I can't really every motivate myself to shoot with any 40 or 50 again once I got that

This 40mm is nice cuz it's sharp wide open at f2.8. it's sharper than the nifty 50 stopped down to f2.8.

Yeah it's shocking. Keeping the max aperture modest really allowed them to do something great with it.

I'm thinking about having this combine with R6... Currently I'm running with 50/1.4...but that lens is quite old, so I have to step down to 2.8 or lower aperture to have decent sharpness.

about the Manual focus being a con... this lens is not meant to be an manual focus lens. It's a AF lens. Like you said this lens is equped with a STM motor which works butter smoth with canon's dual pixel AF for video.Anyways, somone serious with video/cinema will use a vintage lens or cine lens for that precision with a long focus throw. Actually, having the option to to use manual focus is a Pro, cause canon could just left it with no manual.

24mm and 40mm STM along a Canon Sl series make a quite good combo of light weight and normal focal length. The most light weight, autofocus photo an video combo you could ever get in a Canon dslr.

Totally agree. If they made a more affordable version of the 28 mm EF lens, even if it had no IS and even went to f/4 if needs be, it would be a fantastic partner for the nifty fifty for full frame users.

Thanks! I honestly don't know. I picked them up because I liked them but the designer name was just silk-screened onto one of the arms in tiny text that has work off over the last three years.

Really good video! Maybe you can help me by your experience sir 😅 I have 50mm f/1.8 but its too tight for me. i want to buy 35mm lens and Viltrox 33m f/1.4 is a good choice but its quite expensive for me 😅. So i think this canon 40mm is better choice by its price, but im afraid the 40mm is still too tight even its just 5mm tighter than 35mm (as you say in video, 40mm is not comfortable, its between 35mm and 50mm) while i know i still have my 50mm. Another alternative is TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4. its very affordable but it just has manual focus 😅 Can you help me to choose the right lens, is 5mm between 35mm and 40mm lens really a big deal? do i have to choose TTartisan 35mm instead of canon 40mm just because its 5mm wider? Does 5mm really matter when we go out to do the photography? (Sorry for my bad english, thanks before 👍🏻)

Your English is good! I understand everything you said. Don't apologise. :) Which camera do you have? What The Viltrox 33 mm f/1.4 is only available for mirrorless cameras, not DSLRs. Are you using a mirrorless camera with an EF lens adapter? If you are using a DSLR camera, you will need to consider different 35 mm lenses. In the past, a common collection of lenses was 28 mm, 50 mm, and 85 mm. This was a good range for most situations. If you only own a 50 mm lens, I would recommend a 28 mm or 35 mm lens, not a 40 mm. If you have only these lenses, 40 & 50 mm are too "close", and instead you could buy something much more different to 50 mm! If you'd like, I can take some quick sample photos tomorrow. @@Shaka1277 thank you sir Sorry i forgot to mention. Yes my camera is a crop sensor canon eos m5 and i have an ef lens adapter. I have 22mm and 50mm, thats why i want lens between them and as i know canon 40mm is the most affordable lens that have auto focus. oh okay, if you still recommend me TTArtisan 35mm manual auto focus instead of canon 40mm with auto focus, maybe i will consider it to rent the lens before i buy (i hope i can found the place to rent) Thank you sir i really appreciate it, you really helps a lot 🙏🏻
