Canon EOS 1100D / T3: Low Light Test

@Pretoriuss I think photos on 1000D are better than on 1100D. If you don't need video go for it. If you need video, both 1100D and D3100 may get you dissapointed. Better chech out 550D. Stay away from D3000, it's obsolete. I'd take Nikon D3100 with it's 18-55VR lense. Maybe 35 mm or 50 mm prime with it? If you have more money to spare, go fot 550D.

Warum auch immer...die Tube hat mir dieses Video vorgeschlagen und ich finde es klasse. Die 1100D war mein Einstieg in die DSLR Fotografie. Video hat mich bis heute nicht so interessiert. Aber ich bin erstaunt, was mit dem richtigen Knowhow und dem Gefühl für Schnitt und Musik, aus der Kamera heraus geholt werden kann.

It does actually. The lens he used has a wide aperture (probably between f/ 1.4 - f/ 1.8) which allows more light to get in. You know it has a wide aperture because of the roundness of the bokeh in the first few seconds of the video. Kit lenses have the minimum aperture of 3.5 which allows less light to come in. The bokeh for the kit lens has the hexagonal shape rather than circular like in this video.

Just a question, why is this video so clear and spot on, and another video but someone else with the same camera, and their video quality is blurry and crap? Is it something to do with file compressing, or saving file, movie editing? exporting? what is the secret?

Could you do a video on how you got such a sharp and clear image with this camera please ?? I just got this camera and I am having trouble with the quality of the video it looks kind of grainy.

@LittelPrincess92 Don't worry too much about the GB, on the card it should say 'Class #' so Class 4 or class 6 or whatever it is.. you need to get a class 6 or higher card.

It would be nice if you told us about features of the video mode? What can you change what not? Aperture, shutter speed, ISO, compensation, creative filters... Can you see those settings if camera makes them fot you, etc..

If you go tot the recording tab you can disable sound recording.

Yes it matters... A lens that can have a larger aperture (smaller number ex 2.8) can make the camera to reduse the ISO so you get lower noise!

is it worth the extra money to get the nikon d3100? I use a lot of movie mode.

@avivaben you could install magic lantern which allows you to change settings.

@Mo3run yes because the nikon gives off colors that makes it look like you Photoshopped the picture

@007jo100 you need reduce your iso settings if the iso is too high you get gained up footage

Hi, I´m from Buenos AIres, Argentina. I have a T2i and I used to film a lot, I recognize a known bug on this camera: OVERHEATING.. That is a concern for me, after record near 20 minutes of video (in few steps), the display shows a signal saying: Almost burned. So, I need to turn-off the camera and wait a few.. not a deal ! Question : Does the T3 1100D solve this problem? Question 2: Does this camera has MIC Input Jack 3.5mm (as the T2i) ?? Thank you !!!

I dont get it, witch video noise are you refering to if there is only the song being played...

@saveme010 Most new DSLR's do have a video mode. DSLR's are made for taking photographs. Do not use video mode as a reason to buy one. If you want a camera that does video, you are better off buying a HD camcorder.

What ISO is this video? I've been doing videos on my new Nikon D7000 and it seems to default to ISO 1600 i can't seem to change it. Is that standard or something?

use len has wide aperture will make low-light movie better...and you can't control but you can lock the iso,just choose the right spot to get lowest iso and then LOCK it! "AE/AF lock"

@FenchelJanisch so is this a good starter cam or should one go for the d3100? The 1100D comes with a 55mm lens and is around ~320 euro whereas the 3100d is around 360-400 with basicly a similar lens.

what ISO did you use ?

The image quality is noticeably inferior to say the 600D, which is beautiful, but it's still rather nice for it's price and functionality. Just wish canon would make an upgrade.

How did you get 720p at 30fps? I assume that was in post-processing with Premiere Pro?

@LittelPrincess92 You need an SD card that is class 6 or higher. The card is too slow, and can't keep up with the camera trying to save video to it.

@wackou722 yeah there is no manual ISO and shutter speed for the t3 thats one of the downsides... its only auto but i know specific lenses let in more or less light. I'm thinking about getting the 18-135mm or the 1.8 lens cause the work great. but I'm still waiting on a reply from FenchelJanish so i know exactly how to get this film look.

Unfortunately, the camera itself determines the ISO for you. No manual ISO setting.

@matko1254 You need to use Squared 5 mpeg streamclip.. its a free transcoder.. Its makes the dslr files easier to edit. RU-vid it.

Oh sorry, I didn't realize he was using the 18-135. I guess he used a different lens for the first few seconds of the video only.

Awesome quality! I bought the 1100d and tried to shoot some 720p videos indoors, but I got a hell lot of noise in the result video. Is there a way to reduce the noise? (I understand that ISO and shutter speed is set automatically in 1100d, which I guess is part of the problem...)

@666666666233 Me too, Ive tried to record stars, I've got a video with many noise ... but, i didn't find the setting to set the exposure, the maximum ISO and many over settings.... How did you configure it ? (I think they can be only set by the auto program...)
