Finally! A professional Photographer that can explain, inform and not elaborate to the point of distraction! I subscribed and will watch everything this gentleman has to say! THIS one video convinced me that the 5DS R is my next camera purchase! I do landscape a lot and want to do portrait too. I will echo the question.... where can I fond a loupe like that one?

You really need to get a geared head. Ball heads are just awful for landscape photography. There is no precision in placement, especially when you're stitching for panoramas.

I always used a loupe to focus on the ground glass of large-format view cameras, but I have never before seen someone using this on a DSLR live-view lcd screen!

@3:45 shooting f/11 to avoid diffraction, but actually diffraction kicks in around f/7.1 on the high res 5DS cameras, so suggest focus stacking shots at f/7.1 or wider.

I think this is a truly exelent instructional video, unfortunately, I have not been able to execute your instructions. I can't get the mirror to lock up during exposure. I have the 5dsr, an exelent sturdy Gitzo tripod with a No 2 head, even a loup just like yours and just bought a Canon RC 6 remote specially for this purpose, I suspect the RC 6 is the problem, one must set the self timer in the camera in order for it to work, this seems to disable the mirror lock up. I suspect a cable release is necesary in order to be able to keep the mirror locked up. Is this the problem? Or is it possibly something else I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

ND filter here must be really high quality. My 10 buck Chinese filter was turning every photo into garbage on a 24mpx APS-C sensor.

Christopher, great video and informative as I'm a beginner with a 5D MK IV. I have a question, what type of loupe are you using this could help my problem with focusing at distant objects for more detail.

Likely something like a Hoodman Hoodloupe.

Unfortunately Canon, in contrast to Nikon, which respects more the professionals who have the Nikon D850, has not presented any new firmware. He could very comfortably. She generally doesn't take care of her models. We have invested a lot of money to buy them. By force he made a new firmware for the 1dx mark iii. Could also be for the canon 5dsR. At least for digital noise and focus. Too bad. We feel cheated.

On my 5DSR after I put the 1 point AF square on my subject, let’s say a tree about 40-50 yards away, then tap back button AF everything looks clear but then I tap the magnify button to either level to check focus and the image goes to a blurry mess? When I next turn the focus ring on lens the image clears right up and looks great.

Hi: I just bought the Canon 5DS camera and switched from JPG to RAW. But the photos won't transfer to my 128 GB SD card to transfer them to my computer. WHY? Thank you.

I have a 5DSr and was curious your opinion on setting the AF point selection: MANUAL SELECT: SPOT AF MANUAL SELECTION: 1 PT. AF I only shoot landscapes. No sports, BIF, wildlife, weddings, etc. Thank you for your time.

What a fantastic review, not only did I learn more about the Canon 5DS but also the fieldcraft involved in obtaining some outstanding photographs with a high megapixel camera that, with a little bit of guidance, might not have been possible. I currently own the Canon 5Dmkiii and trying to get permissions in place from the "bank of wife". I know this camera is around 7 years old now and discontinued but I believe it still holds its own in 2023 - and a few used ones do occasionally crop up - and mirrorless is a totally different approach from what I'm used to. Thanks again George - if you have further field tests using this camera I would love to see them :)

2:23 also turn off any image stabilisers on lenses and bodies, because they give constant tiny vibrations
@brianbeattyphotography
@brianbeattyphotography 3 года назад
great point. a lot of people don't realize this, but if you mount a stabilized lens on a tripod with it switched on, then zoom to x16 on live view, you can see this happening. Especially when zoomed in to longer focal lengths like 200mm or 400mm.

I have a question. Im sure anyone who has purchased a Canon EOS 5DSr. Inside the Viewfinder I have noticed the metering is not very bright. The meter itself that is green inside the view finder. Especially in Bright sunlight. Is there anyway this can be corrected in the menu to make it more brighter so it can be seen? Thank you ahead of time.

George Lepp I have learned so much from him over the years, by reading his material, studying his photography and now listening to and watching him. Thank You

His technique, tripod mount, live view, mirror lock, silent mode, all manual, focus loupe is very much as if he were using a view camera. Trouble is, if he wants to meter on some part of the scene that’s not in the center, or on several different parts, to measure highs and lows, it’s inconvenient to crank the camera around to point at the different sections. At this point, he may as well take the final step toward view-camera technique and use a hand-held spot meter. More to carry, but would make his workflow smoother.

Can anyone confirm this? Due to the sensor size combined with the higher megapixel, is it noisy at iso 400??
@gregfaris6959
@gregfaris6959 4 года назад
Unfortunately, having used it for a few years now, I have to confirm noise IS an issue with this sensor at higher ISO. I needed the high res because I mostly use it for aerial photography from helicopters, but when I do get on the ground, toward the evening hours, I would often rather have a different body on my tripod. 400 is still within the range where most people will not be complaining of noise, but it’s about the highest I dare to go unless I simply have no choice.
@brianbeattyphotography
@brianbeattyphotography 3 года назад
great question! I have the 5DSR and see very little to no noise through ISO 640, a very small amount at 800, and have my limiter set to not exceed 1000. I only use ISO 400 - 800 if it's windy and I don't want leaves moving in the scene, etc. It's definitely not the camera for high ISO, but the ISO 100 - 400 images are spectacular.
@Mr.ReanuKeeves
@Mr.ReanuKeeves 3 года назад
@@brianbeattyphotography Ah, as I suspected. Thank you so much for confirming that! I wanted to ask because I planned on purchasing one in second hand but I feel like I'll still stick with my 5d3 or maybe save up for R5 instead. Though, I often limit myself with iso 800 but sometimes I need a higher iso in the evening. Thank you!
