This is by far the best tutorial I have ever seen. I work with only children and all that you shared was EXTREMELY helpful. Thank you!!

It's not about the camera, but the lens. A 35mm f/2.0 or 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.4 would be perfect. Just shoot wide open, or close to wide open (f/1.4-f/2.8), and you'll get the same result. Make sure you're quite close to the subject.

Hey there, perhaps you can invest in Canon's prime lenses such as the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM or the EF 85 mm f/1.8 USM? Check out our website for more information: canon.com.au/For-You/Camera-Lenses

I'm always amazed that no matter how proficient a person is in their craft, no matter how energized they are in articulating strategy in something that can be so complexed; someone always thumbs down (23). My friend great tips, great advice, great energy, great.great.great. and I'm a Sony shooter. God Bless Your Talent

@TheLaibc2003 Hey there, a quick search on an Internet engine and you will be able to find some tutorials on how to do it. Let us know how you go. Cheers, the Canon team.

It is ultimately up to you, Anthony - both types of lenses gives you creative control over the shots you want to take. It also depends on the subjects themselves - some kids might be shy and you will need to be further from them for them to open up and still others love the camera. Experiment and see what you come up with. Cheers.

Hi there, what camera do you own? 50mm and 85 mm lenses are popular for portrait photography although some photographers prefer telephoto lens as well so it does depend on what you want to achieve and your style of photography. Let us know how you go. Cheers.

@alldayeveryday808 How about the EF 50mm f/1.4 lens (canon.com.au/For-You/Camera-Lenses/EF50mm-f14-USM-Lens)? It depends on the lighting system used. Some systems require a master flash. Let us know if you have further questions. Cheers, the Canon team.

That's a great combo - it will give you room for the telephoto range of our lenses. You might want to invest in a wider lens as well in the future. Let us know how you go. Cheers, the Canon team.

Graham definitely knows his tools of the trade! This is the type of information even a beginner (such as myself) can learn from - Not some camera shop sales person trying to push a lens (that is having difficulty selling) on his audience. Thanks for all you teach! ....Just wondering though... do you use protective filters on all or any of your lenses?

I sure wish Canon would release a higher megapixel camera to compete with Nikon instead of releasing cameras with the same 18megapixel (7D cropped sensor) & 22megapixel (full frame sensor from the1ds mark III) based sensors. Stop milking your customers Canon. I just purchase 24-70mm f2.8II & 70-200mm isII (2nd time), I will not buy a Canon body until I see a new sensor. Until then I will shoot with Sony NEX-7 with adaptor & my Nikon D800E with primes. btw great video.

@CanonAustralia Would you recommend the canon 7D or the 60D? I recently had my entire set up stolen from my car when me and some friends were getting a bite to eat in Spokane, Washington. and I'm curious to see which is better. I usually shoot more sports and action photos but I'm really interested in going into macro and portrait photography. If you could recommend other things such as lenses and other equipment that would be amazing too!

Hmm is this video is about teaching people how to shoot, it maybe would be a better idea to talk about the lower end range of canon gear, not all the high end expensive stuff since those people wont be able to afford that. I understand that canon likes to sell their most expensive gear most though. Ill be running to the store to get me 2x 5D MKII, a 580EXII 24-70L 70-200 2.8L, 85L etc. Oh wait first remortgage my house.

Hello there, are you familiar with "PhotoSFXart" (just google it)? On their website you can watch a useful free video explaining the right way to create outstanding photos. This made it easier for Joe to create photographs which have that wow-effect while you look at them. Hopefully it will work for you too...

this video is nice..it may not have totally for the weddings but sure your weddings also involve children. wedding photographs which only shots the bride, groom, relatives, friends seems stereotype and boring (if you agree). but if you add something to it like the one you see in this video, then sure your wedding photograph is like a cake full of toppings...

the picture of the baby that you show as an example of the 85mm f1.2, is a nice shot, but to me it doesn't look like it was shot at f1.2, so I am curious if it is f1.2 or what f stop it was shot at ? I am curious because I am considering buying this lens, thanks, enjoyed the video

@CanonAustralia Currently I have canon 18-55mm and 70-300mm so I need something in between (more standard lens) since I travel a lot and do lots of photos. I need lens that is suitable for most occasions because switching lenses all the time can be difficult..

@CanonAustralia I want to enter the world of dslr photograpy and would u recommend the 550d with the 85mm 1.8 as a good start for potrait photography, indoor sports and a bit of product/macro photography? My budget limits me around $1000! Your help would be really appreciated!

Hi Canon Australia. This video is great but probably not useful for your average consumer who won't be sporting a 5DMkII with a collection of L lens. Things like the EF 50mm 1.8 are great for the price.
