Canon EOS R5 Mark II, Right around the corner | Should you wait? 

R5 Mark II is minor upgrade but double price. R5 Mark I has huge discount and still great for another 3+ years.

I’m an amateur photographer that owns an R5. I love it. For me, there aren’t enough improvements to upgrade. It might be different if I was a professional.

cRAW is what you already have. The IBIS is awesome on the R5. If you are using RF lenses you will see gimbal like stabilization. Firmware 1.6 fixed the overheating. The rolling shutter is fine. Much better than the A74.

R5 have lower file size photo. It’s called c-raw

What will a low mileage used R5 go for after the R5 II is out on the market?

Remember in late 2022 when Canon Rumours and all the big RU-vidrs were exclaiming "The R5 II is almost here, will be announced in the next 2 months". Well, I got my R6 II and have been loving it for all that time.

My hot shoe has been replaced twice already. Big mistake was putting the screws from the inside out. It’s almost impossible to tighten it. They better fix that.

Last count, 24 RU-vid "Experts" talk about something no one knows anything about... My Z8 arrived today and I am not looking back.

Sony's A1 came out 3 years and has a BSI Stacked sensor at 50MP with full size HDMI and 4 Card Slots! I recently aquired one being an R5 user. After one shoot with it was like yea this A1 is where it's at! Canon's R5 II will have to be better in order for me to purchase. It'll also need to have the updated Multi Axis tilt flip screen. Otherwise I'm happy with the original R5 and A1 Especially with the new 24-70mm F2 to be rumored.

Sticking with my 80D and my 90D no one really has a 4k TV somethings are not need. Plus I shoot the news as a news journalist. They do not look for 4k or 8k. For that matter

It needs several things: Stacked sensor. Sony started putting BSI sensors into cameras in 2009 (I think that's right). For the last 10 years, Sony has made BSI pretty much the baseline, as other manufacturers have included them in cameras. BSI is nothing to brag about in 2024. The R5II and the R1 will sit at the top end of Canon's line. They both need to have stacked sensor. For me, it's a deal-breaker. (Bonus) A lot of people don't understand that the processor provides the phase information for autofocus. A stacked sensor will (could) enable improved autofocus performance. And improved AF is a meaningful upgrade - on any camera. That's just one more argument for a stacked sensor. 30 Minute Record Limit. It should go without saying that the record limit has to go - on these two models, but on everything else from now on. I assume Canon will do that, but they should have done it with the R5 through a firmware update long ago. Once again, this is not some innovative improvement - it's literally the least they can do. Full size HDMI port. How hard is this to figure out. The micro HDMI ports bring all sorts of problems. This is another thing that nobody should have to tell Canon. Two Compact Flash B slots. These cameras are supposed to be fast. That doesn't do you a lot of good when you're locked out, waiting for some of that data to spool to a memory card. What they really SHOULD have in these two cameras is two Gen 4 CF-B slots. Otherwise, there will be a permanent bottleneck (or they will have to cripple some things so that the card slots aren't so obviously the bottleneck). Improved dynamic range. Real improved dynamic range. The rumors have said that the R1 will feature a dual gain sensor like on the C300 and C70, and those cameras claim 16 stops of DR. The problem is, that only applies to video, and only if you're shooting in CLog 2. So it won't help stills at all. And if you're not shooting in CLog 2, you're not going to see anywhere near 16 stops of dynamic range. So give us a couple of stops if legitimate improvement in DR, and keep the DGO sensor for your next cinema camera.

When they release R5 II, the price for R5 I its to cost less?

Just a simple question, i probably know the answer, but can i use sigma lenses for my mark iv on the r5s? And should i upgrade from mark iv to r5? (shoots landscape/nature/city night/Aurora)

Really wanted a higher resolution sensor. As someone who doesn’t shoot sports or much video, this seems pretty underwhelming after four years.

It will be a long while before I max out what I can do on the R5, and honestly no mech shutter , welcome to the world of dust. 😀

One feature that isn't necessary for me 8K, just make the 4K features better is all I ask for with this next update.

How can it have no mechanical shutter? Flash photography requires one.

I talked to a canon rep at the end of January at Imaging USA and he said there have been no internal talks on a r5 mk ii or r7 mk ii and its all rumors

I don't think they do the good job when ever they release new product, they mess it up. I enjoyed using Canon 7d mark ii. I bought 5d mark iv and the R5 both of them had issues with long exposure shots. So many dead pixels in my pictures. When you send to Canon they say there no problem or they have fixed it. But you facing same problems again and again. There is no help from Canon Australia or the retailers and they are hopeless. Canon R5 having a focusing issue with 100-500 RF lens. When you shoot wildlife, I'm hoping to get a one sharp shot by just firing it. I am seriously thinking to move to Sony or Nikon. Looks like they are doing way better than Canon. Its shame. Do you have a 8k tv?

Try Nikon - they're build quality is so much better than Canon, as are their Z mount lenses. Ps Nikon has been using BSi sensor since 2017. Nikon NEF RAW crushes Canon CR3 RAW files - if you haven't tried Nikon lately you are missing out. Canon eye tracking (photographer eye - not subject) has never worked well and still doesn't - its not a promising tech at the moment. Try something new! Nikon Video crushes on the Z9/8 and now that they bought Red smokes Sony and Canon. There is really no compaerison. All the best. -PD

The AI capability will enter thru your retina and take shots of your brain ie: thoughts read & stored but it will not help you be a nicer person, lol.

Nah, I abandoned Canon and sold all my gear and glass and bought a Nikon z7ii and some premium glass and I've never been happier

I guess some people are never satisfied and happy with last year's model. Some ppl just have to have the latest model and yet produce sh*tty photos...I have the original R and produce excellent Boudoir photos. I guess some people are just spoiled and think they need to the latest model...🤦
