I contemplated upgrading to the mirrorless eos r7 but decided not to, due to your company blocking all the third party lens manufacturers from making any Rf mount lenses for the canon rf mirrorless systems. I understand you are definitely 100% in your right to do so, but I think you’ve disappointed a lot of your canon consumers by taking this action. A lot of us loved the ability to use third party fast lenses such as sigmas 18-35mm f1.8 and 50-100mm f1.8 on our canon ef-s Apsc cameras, as you don’t offer any truly fast prime lens options for your Apsc bodies. If you expect us to invest our hard earned money on your Apsc rf mount mirrorless lineup, then please give us some respect in return as loyal customers and offer us some fast oem canon prime apsc lens options to choose from, otherwise just please open up your mount to third party lens manufacturers. Your decisions not to open up your RF lens mount to third party manufacturers, has really left me no choice but to sell my canon gear and invest in Sony or Nikon. I have been a loyal fan of Canon for many years but this decision has sealed the deal for me to abandon canon as my main equipment for photography. I hope you will reverse your decision on this matter as it will only hurt your company in the future.

You completely forgot to mention a very important thing! The interchangeability of LENSES between the cameras! How well will the lenses used on the 90D work with the R7 or R10? If you own a 90D, do you need to go out and spend another 3Grand for all new lenses? Do you lose quality by using an adapter?

What are you trying to do with photography? Are you trying to run a professional business? Street photography? Landscape? I think you'd be hardpressed to honestly see a difference between these two sensors for everything except for video and sports shooting. The R7 doesn't have a battery grip, but the 90D does. That can factor a lot into the kinds of shoots you do and how long you will be shooting for.

@@HiFiInsider Sorry to hear the 90D was lacking in video for ya, I only shoot wildlife, so I never looked at the video aspect of it. I personally was gonna pre-order the R7 as well, but then I found out that they're purposely not adding support for battery/vertical grips, which is a total let down for me as someone who uses one constantly on the 90D. Pretty salty about it, feels just needlessly crippling for a $1,500 camera, when even their much cheaper DSLRs have support for them. Either way, I hope you end up loving the R7! :)

Nikon D90 or Canon 90D, cause both of them poound the OG 7D in low light performance (It's honestly not even funny), especially the full frame D90, focusing is of course better on the newer models when using the VF, and especially during LV on the 90D. The 7D mark II would put up a better fight, but it'll still fall short.

Thank you for this video. For me, this association between the 90D and the R7 confirms to me that the latter is not really a replacement for the 7DMkII: which sported much more comprehensive weather sealing, and a battery grip, neither of which applies to the R7. If it HAD been a 7DII replacement, I would have hoped for a similar-sized but BSI/stacked sensor, larger buffer and dual card slots with least one CF-Express Type A card with a slot backwardly compatible to SD. I would have been quite happy to pay for these features, as would many pro-level wildlife photographers. So, when will Canon produce such a camera, and why is this camera using the R7 model slot instead of something like the R70 or R9?
@set3777
@set3777 2 года назад
If 7DMKII is compared with the R7, R7 wins all ALL categories. R7 has adequate weather sealing, NO internal space to put a CF card or even a 3rd dial. Just as 3rd party has created a "simple battery grip" for the EOS RP that cost much less (for less than $100 price including 2 batteries), they can do the same for the R7. Who buying an R7 for $1500 is willing to pay $800 for a Canon OEM battery grip? Your type of criticism is absurd
@trevor9934
@trevor9934 2 года назад
@@set3777 The R7 is not aimed at the same market as was the 7DII. It is aimed at the XXD market of enthusiast cameras. Canon has already said that the R7 is a replacement for the 90D (or the closer still: M5) in one of their videos and other reviewers have confirmed that. It is significant that the lenses released for the R7 and R10 match those of the EF-M series. The 90D was not a replacement for the 7DII, it was a replacement for the 80D. If it had been a replacement for the 7DII it would have had the much superior tracking system of that camera - it didn't. I have both and tested them and it is absolutely clear. I have already commented on the sensor of the R7 related to competitors out there, but it is the balance of sensor readout, buffer and card speed performance that is really challenging this camera. Most pro's and serious enthusiasts want to shoot RAW, which generates larger files that need to be processed and saved to card. The camera can shoot mechanical shutter at 15fps, and electronic at up to 30fps. This sounds massively impressive until one wants to use that high speed with RAW files. Tests show that the buffer fills up in just over a second when shooting RAW. One has to drop the ES speed down to the 15fps (or use mechanical and that sounds like a tinker's cart) to get a significantly longer sequence. That kills the ES performance. The system is out of balance. What was needed was a BSI/stacked sensor that will transmit at high speed to the buffer, a buffer large enough to accommodate that throughput, and card systems that can take the data from the buffer and clear it rapidly. So, if Canon had wanted to remain compatible to the older SD card standard but have a much higher card speed, the answer was to go to the CF-Express type A slots that are compatible with SD cards and have the much higher write speeds. That's what Nikon have done. As far as the sensor performance goes: similarly, tests indicate quite a bit of noise above ISO-3200. Cramming more pixels (Photosites) onto the same size sensor does not do it any favours - it's always a balance between resolution and noise. The Photosites have to be smaller and are less efficient at light gathering, thus more noise. That is why cameras stayed in a 'sweet spot' of the mid-20MP sensor size for so long. Finally, as regards the battery grip. It is interesting that Canon previously offered grips for all but the lowest-end DSLRs. Why is a battery grip useful? It not only offers seamless access to twice the energy reserve, but has a duplicate set of controls for portrait use - which is significant when using long, heavy lenses where the grip allows one a much better ergonomic hand positions. Similarly, the grip offers more body mass that helps to bring the CofG back along a big lens, and towards the body. I am sincerely glad that Canon have released a couple of crop MILCs, and for the price the R7 is great value, despite my reservations. I am absolutely sure a huge number of people who were waiting for an APS-C. I am waiting for the camera to evolve, or a new model with the features I want. You obviously like it, but it might be worth considering that our needs are different.
@set3777
@set3777 2 года назад
@@trevor9934 The buffer issue is NOT TRUE. There is a C-RAW file system that is 1/3 the size. And there is Jpeg too. If you buy the ADATA branded UHS-II SDCARD, the buffer issue is not there. Using a slower Sanddisk Extreme Pro UHS-II is like pulling the handbrake and complaining you car can't move fast. Someone with a Sony A7IV (33MP FF camera) complained that Adobe software inserted random noise into his RAW pictures. He said: "I've called both Sony and Adobe support. Sony had me open the raw files using Imaging Edge - their proprietary software - and the issue didn't show up so they told me they won't help me. Adobe said can't do anything but the issue might get resolved whenever camera raw is updated. " Adobe software also inserted noise into the R7 C-RAW/RAW files. Someone opened the same files with DPP and the noise is not there up to 10,000 ISO. So using Adobe Software to check for ISO noise is like using a lens full of fungus and then blaming the Camera. Both Sony FF and Canon APSC exhibit the same problem so it the the Adobe Camera RAW codex that is buggy. When they do not support the new RAW files yet, Adobe probably just inserted FILM base ISO profile in order to deceive.
@trevor9934
@trevor9934 2 года назад
@@set3777As I said: I an many others like me will not want to settle for just JPG files. C-RAW is a possibility, but not for all PP systems. What this does not address is the significant shutter lag that comes with using electronic shutter at high speed. That is where the BSI/Stacked sensor would bring balance to the system. You won't convince me that this system is fit for MY purposes, it may be great for yours, and will obviously be brilliant for many others - and Canon will sell tons of them.
@set3777
@set3777 2 года назад
@@trevor9934 There is also HEIF which is 10bits that is superior to 8bits Jpeg. C-RAW is 14bits. I am not trying to convince you. I am just annoyed at ignorant people "hitting below the belt". They used to attack Nikon and Canon DSLRs for having no IBIS - without thinking! How is it possible to move the mirror, prisms, focusing sensors and imaging sensors at the same time? So Canon and Nikon sold LENES with IS and VRs instead of IBIS. BSI/STACK sensor is another attempt at "hitting below the belt". There are patents involved. However Canon now has superior AF called DPAF (dual pixel auto focus) that has been proven more accurate than Sony, Nikon, Lumix and Fujifilm AF BECAUSE Canon sensors are NOT BSI/stacked sensors made by Sony.

As someone who has made the jump to mirrorless, and sees people looking to invest money into a camera, I am pushing more for people to go to mirrorless. While DSLR's are not dead as of this time, this is the beginning of the next evolution in photography. The last major change was the switch from film to digital. While it is digital to digital now, this new tech is going to last a long time. If any history is to go off of, these lenses/ mounts are going to last the next 30-40 years. While a lot of EF glass will still be serviceable, the DSLR bodies will not be. The clock is ticking, and mirrorless is going to be the future. I am not gonna say it is worth scraping the DSLR's, but making the jump to mirrorless will be worth every penny.

Erm, no. Mirrorless is still in baby steps. Battery life is subpar at best, compared to mature tech of 90D and its endless b-life. I took more than 1600 images and still had the juice left in 90d. The main and almost only advantage for ML is autofocus, not image quality. Nobody knows nor cares what camera you used to get the image. So there goes your apple and oranges comparison. Film vs Dig was something else. ML vs Dslr. ML is mostly marketing. The tech in ML could be applied to Dslrs and its liveview, like they did for 90d, but they won't.
@jeffchristianson-ziebell7727
Lol your statement makes no sense you’re just saying go to mirror less because it’s cool? FYI, ask any actual professional photographer… Once you get paid or do it for a living… you will hear a much different statement and will also find we actually still have to carry the DSLR for stills and depending on the situation. Another actual professional photography fact is the only arena mirrorless shines in is auto video. DSLRs still produce far better quality stills - that if you’re doing this for money, it’s extremely important if you match your art of the craft with quality, of course… The industry does not care how cool anything is they care AND BUY the end results. And if you’re going to spend thousands of dollars on camera equipment I assume it’s not for shits and giggles. Well logically speaking that is lol
