Canon Extender EF 2X III Demo / 70-200mm f2.8 IS / FS5

I recently bought the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS lens and found that I still wanted more reach, so I checked out the Canon Extender EF 2X III tele converter. I found it used for 350.00 at B&H. When shooting on the FS5 in Center Scan mode the lens effectively is an 800mm lens. You can add another 2x (1,600mm) using Clear Image Zoom, but there is a drop in quality with that feature.
Keep in mind that the Canon Extender 2X causes you to lose 2 stops of aperture. When using the 70-200 f/2.8 with the Metabones Speed Booster Ultra you gain one stop, making it all even out to f/4, which is fine for shooting in the daytime. I shot all of this at f/5.6

I wish you were showing for Still photo quality. So I can't really tell if this would work or not for my Sony A7 III with Metabones, Canon 70-200mm, etc

Honestly I only used the thing once. I'm thinking of trading it to Adorama to get something I'll get more use out of. This video was basically to shot what kind of reach it has. It's a good quality product. Find a used one of you need to be zoomed in more.

how does the image stabilization hold up? could you do smooth pans/tilts in reason? Thinking about same setup with my FS700 for wildlife video

I suppose it's alright. You don't really use IS with a tripod. The lens has decent IS with a Pan setting.

I use the IS almost always on my 100-400 and 800 icw the fs5. If there is any wind or if you want to track a bird in flight you're gonna need it.

Not sure. I made this 6 years ago, and I don't use the extender any more. I believe it stays constant.

Nope! I believe it only works with Canon L Lens series telephoto lenses.

It is very specific to which models it'll work with. It works with all prime L lenses 200mm and up and only 2 L zoom lenses I believe. 70 200 and the 100 400. Not others.

What is center scan/Clear Image Zoom?

Center scan is a function that crops into the center of the sensor without losing resolution, and effectively gives you a 2x zoom. Center Scan is only available in HD, not 4K. Clear Image Zoom is a proprietary Sony function that does an enhanced digital zoom that looks better than just zooming the image in post.

So center scan is possible because of the converter or because of your camera? I have a Canon 80D, can I do center scan?

Center Scan is a feature in the Sony FS5 camera. It's a 4k sensor, so when I'm shooting in 1080 it can crop into the center of the sensor without losing resolution, and in effect zooming the image 2x.
