This is a good cheap vintage kit lens! I love the FD optics, price tag and the plastics too. I had it for a brief moment just to test and then sell it. After selling it, i started to miss it. It has that great Canon image quality (definitely above average for a cheap kit lens!), it's a bit soft wide open but still quite usable, atleast for the close-up pictures i often take. I have a picture of a flower in my wall (the only picture hanging), and that great picture has been taken with this lens! Just when i was testing it... I'm gonna get it again and love it. Many of these older zooms with about double the zoom range (35-70, 75-150 etc.) are quite good optically. For example the Minolta MDIII 35-70mm f/3.5 is just awesome. Minolta 35-70mm F3.5 (17A) is great for documenting the fixing projects i do, due it's smooth transition to the close-up world. Canon 70-150mm f4.5 FDn etc. I much prefer the vintage lenses over to the modern lenses, even if they're often sharper and better controlled. For me, manual focus is better than AF, and the sterile modern lenses so many of them. Great lenses, but i just prefer the vintage / manual focus experience.

I bought this yesterday for just $55. My first "vintage" lens. Still playing with it, not sure if I love it or hate it. It's very lightweight but feels like a cheap plastic toy. Might be useful to get that authentic, 80s, wide open, soft look.

Canon had another FD 35-70 lens which was F4 all the way through, (as opposed to F3.5-F4.5). It was all metal construction and was very very sharp!

Yes I know about it. Didn't know it was much sharper, good to know. Thanks for the info.

Nikon had old one 35-70 f2.8, right? Should be a better one.

F2.8 would make it a lot bulkier and heavier too!
