I think this will be no surprise to frequent channel viewers: I am very mixed on my feelings about Canon OEM FDn lenses. Many of them I do not like and find that the build quality and apparent design that makes repairing these very hard are a disservice to photographers. Also, I find that, optically, most of the FDn lenses I’ve used do not perform in a manner that aligns with my creative ideas for my photography. This lens is a striking exception to that and it is the best Canon OEM FDn lens I’ve ever used. To the point: If you wanted to buy just one Canon OEM FDn lens, I would say start here. The Canon FDn 35mm f/2.8 is a staggeringly good performer that few people would find reasons to dislike when it comes to overall image performance and quality.
Where this lens fails a bit is in the build quality. Canon appears to have taken some, let’s be kind and say shortcuts, with this lens overall construction. The same, however, could be said of most FDn lenses and that criticism would likely be echoed by me each time we discuss and FDn lens.
Where this lens shines, though, especially, is in travel photography and I loved taking this lens overseas with me because it could fit easily in a cargo pocket, weighs so little as to allow it to go easily unnoticed, and it performs in a class far above the consumer-grade specs and build quality it delivers. This may be, probably is, honestly, my favorite FDn lens, and I have to imagine that most FDn lens users who look empirically at how this lens performs would likely share a similar sentiment.

0:12 The message behind this photograph is obvious: the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are less than five months away. 🏅🥇🏅

tyvm for the video. i have the chrome nose 35mm f2 concave. If it weren't for how pretty it is, I'd probably trade it for the 35mm f2.8 nfd if only to have a lighter lens with no yellowing of the glass.

Thank you! IIRC, you're almost exclusively digital, correct? I only ask because on B&W film, a nice yellow tint in the lens will add a contrast boost to the photos.

@@DavidHancock You are correct - I'm exclusively digital. Not only that, but my (sony) camera is set to: Fluor - Day White. I really don't like overly warm tones out the gate as I discovered I was always dialing it back in post.

Quick Question. When you say macro adapter, are you referringextension tube 25, the one used for the cannon 50mm F/3.5 macro to achieve 1:1 magnification? Thank you

Good question. For macro adapters, those are strictly for mirrorless shooters. Those are adapters with focusing helicals built in so that the lens can be moved further forward than the flange focal distance to force it into the close-up or macro range.
