This was, by far, the most detailed guide I could find on taking apart this camera. I had dropped my GX7 ii on pavement while taking photos, and the barrel would no longer retract completely. I tried various small fixes, but nothing worked. Thanks to this video, I managed to replace the lens/sensor unit - a $50 repair of a $600 camera. So, I just want to say thank you. If I had one request, in future videos maybe warn us of how many different types of screws there are : ) That 10-screw back metal plate had not just black and silver screws, but two kinds of silver screws that are the same length but with different threads... I'm not 100% that all the screws went back where they started, but close enough I think! Anyway, no way I could have succeeded without this video.
@@jonnyboy87 I did use the link, and the lens certainly seems indistinguishable from the original lens. HOWEVER, I'm not sure that particular link is the correct part any more. When I ordered, the part was $20 more expensive, and I think there were different configurations/"colors" for the G7, G5, G7ii, some without the sensor. (If you look at reviews, you'll see "Color: G7 X Mark II"). Before ordering a replacement lens, please confirm that the part you are ordering includes the sensor/CCD. There are other stores on aliexpress that sell canon replacement lenses as well. That's all I know, good luck.

Wow! Do you have a video on how to repair the shutter doors. They came off when cleaning the inside of the lens and now I can't get them back on correctly and in working order.

I dropped my camera & I know I need to hold the power button down. if I let it loose the camera instantly shuts off. I already tired to replace to top part of the camera but that did not seem to help. Thank you so much, every help would be appreiciated. best, r

Thanks so much for this video of the breakdown I have a Canon Powershot Mark 2 The link says the lens is no longer avaiable now now this was in 2019 How do you know if the camera has a CCD Senor or Not ? as you can order it with ! or without it ! I am thinking the sensor is bad the reason it will not retract ? Now it extends out and retracts on half way and you can push it gently to go in But does not show a image on the screen anymore as before Take care my friend and be safe you and your Family Peace
Hi, first of all… thanks for watching! ccd sensor is main image sensor … sensor is attached directly to lens assembly and it is relatively easy to dismantle. if the product is not available - you can message seller and ask for specific part/s they are more than happy to create new listings on aliexpress.

Do you have any suggestions on how I could clean inside the bottom of the SD slot? Stupidly I used tape for an SD card and the stickiness got inside and isn't properly detecting the SD card. I tried Q-tip with alcohol and that helped but after awhile it gets sticky again
hi, that’s tricky down there... you can submerge part of the board to the iso alcohol and pray that it dissolve the glue from tape. thanks for watching
Hi. I just bought a G7x mark ii used and the mode dial on top does not work correctly. It jumps between different modes when i turn it and it even goes to mode selection when i just put a little pressure on the top of the button.....any ideas on what the problem might be 🤔

This is really GREAT guide, bet that can be found on the web, thank you. But I have to add that it is not really the same or very similar to mark iii. I have G7X mark iii and my zoom button (under shutter button) was not working anymore, it was not going back to neutral position. Seems like there is a sand grain stuck somewhere, or the spring is broken. So it was really unpleasant and very difficult to zoom. For this to look at, I had to dismount the top part from the camera, and then to disassemble this top part. And here I hit the problem: I did everything like explained on the video, but it was obvious that something more is holding the top part, it was not possible to remove it from the body. And it is not hold by clips. I applied some force, top part went off, but I have done a little damage: Top part is additionally held with 2 screws that are covered by front cover/part. Actually, these two screws are not necessary, so after fixing, I put everything together and top part is holding good. Regarding zoom lever/button + shutter button: My conclusion was that this part can not be completely disassembled. I was not able to do it. I could see the spring, it was in the place and intact, and I was sure there is some dust/grain inside. I applied some WD40 and moved it about 100 times back and forth, and then it started to work. I had also to take care that I do not fix the top screws too tight. Now my zoom is working pretty fine. If somebody need, I have some photos.
And how do you fix/replace the automatic lens cover? I have a little dent in mine. Your video only shows the entire lens/objective but not it's single components.
Hi , if Im correct you have to twist it anti clockwise and then you expose small blades and springs…. just be careful it is easy to damage and misplace…
Oh man, taking apart doesn't look too hard, putting it back together on the other hand, do you have a video on that ? 😆 Or do you offer ship in services for cleaning the sensor ?
This camera had problems with dust getting inside the lens making it impossible to clean unless you drill a hole and use a vacuums with a cue tip to clean.
Does anyone have any idea of how I can fix my canon g7x mark ii ? I need help to remove the metal that broke from my tripod into the tripod bit of the canon , so I can no longer use tripod in it anymore.
hi, pretty much any mechanical garage (car service) could do it for you if you smile nicely on them :-) depends how it broke in … it may require drilling and using removal tool. thanks for watching
Lol you will not see me take the screws out. I wish I could do I can really fix it tho. My camera fell in some juice and now the shutter is stuck with juice😩🙄
